**************January 1, 2001***************

Not surprisingly, President-elect George "The Tush" Bush has decided to nominate Missouri Sen. John Ashcroft as U.S. Attorney General. Readers are reminded Mr. Ashcroft lost to the late Gov. Mel Carnahan, November 7. Carnahan's widow, Jean, will hold the seat soon to be vacated.

With this nomination, Ole' George has revealed his true fascist colors. Ashcroft has an abominable record on civil rights, civil liberties, and is strongly pro-life. As most religious fanatics, he is more than willing to tell a woman what she can and can't do with her uterus.

Hopefully, Democrats will stiffly oppose this nomination as they had with Bork years ago. Ashcroft has assured Ole' George and the American people, however, his administration of the Justice Department will be based on "principle" rather than politics. Is that right, Johnny? What "principle", sir? Right-Wing fascism? ... Forcing your distorted religious views on women by controlling what they can and cannot do with their uterus? How mighty "generous" of you, sir.

At the same time and not surprisingly, this g--damned hypocrite agrees with Bush and his stand on capital punishment. These unabashed fanatics excuse legalized murder by the state, strongly asserting their victims are indeed "guilty" as opposed to the unborn who are truly "innocent". Is that right? How many innocent prisoners have been executed due to inept defense attorneys, corrupt and abusive police "investigators" and prosecutors, as well as insufficient funds for an adequate defense? -- As opposed to virtually unlimited funds, courtesy of looted taxpayers, allotted to the prosecution?

More importantly, how does "guilt" of a prisoner justify his legal murder by the state? In fact, execution of a murderer is the height of hypocrisy. It strongly sends the message: "Do as I say, not as I do." Worse yet, it teaches killing is a legitimate method of permanently "solving" problems.

Fascists strongly assert capital punishment is biblical. -- So is stoning of adulterers, prostitutes, and homosexuals. Shall we execute these offenders as well? After all, it's biblical, isn't it? So what? The First Amendment guaranties separation of church and state. Not only is freedom of religion protected by the First Amendment, but freedom FROM religion as well.

Extremists don't seem to understand this and have conveniently forgotten our forebears came to this continent to avoid the very same religious repression they so eagerly and willingly impose upon the rest of us. They also outrageously, falsely, and mistakenly grant constitutional rights not present in the U.S. Constitution to the unborn. This is precisely why abortion is still legal in the U.S. and will remain so until the Constitution is amended. With a strong majority of Americans supporting abortion rights, any imminent change is unlikely.

Of course, these zealots will attempt an end-run around the Constitution by appointing "Justices" to the Supreme Court who will arrogantly "legislate" from the bench, finally outlawing a constitutional right recognized nearly three decades. This is precisely why Ole' George and his henchmen need to be strongly opposed in their efforts. Hopefully, Democrats will be in no mood to cooperate with Bush and his shills, -- especially after the outrageous theft of the Presidential election.

... Speaking of shills, newly coronated Texas Governor Rick Perry has strongly asserted his administration will impose the "highest ethical standards" on itself. Is that right, Governor? Like you did when you shamelessly and illegally electioneered for Ole' George after voting early? Of course, the standard of acceptable conduct for a Republican is drastically different for Democrats and Independents in the State of Texas. Had a state official supportive of Gore, Nader, Brown, or Buchanan pulled the same stunt, he would have been skewered, -- if not prosecuted.

With the U.S. Senate evenly divided, Bush will indeed have his problems. Hopefully, Democrats will rise to the occasion and put a stop to the Extreme Right. At the same time and with the polarized split in both houses of Congress, equally hopefully, the Extreme Left will also be held in check. Most pointedly, when the hell will this great country finally return to the political Center?

The pungent stink of kangaroo justice indeed pervaded Austin, December 28, as the Texas Supreme Court ruled a secret ballot by the Senate was in fact "lawful" and "constitutional". Two hours and eight rounds of secret ballots, -- and presto, Republican Sen. Bill Ratliff of Mt. Pleasant was "elected" Acting Lt. Governor by his fellow Senators too cowardly to allow an open vote.

What's the matter, "Boys"? Don't have the guts to let the people know how you voted? Where's your accountability to the citizenry? ... Almost forgot. How incredibly stupid of me. ... Accountability only applies to the unwashed masses, right, Senators?

A secret ballot by these fascists, affirmed as lawful by their shills on the Texas Supreme Court, is un-American, running counter to the highest principles of this great republic. -- A nation second to none.

Yet, an aggressively stupid public has remained cowardly silent in response to this latest outrageous travesty. Not surprisingly, the Aryan arrogance and brazenness of our officials continues to increase in the absence of public interest. ... We do get what we so richly deserve, don't we? Bend over and compliantly take the shaft. After all, you've earned it. ... Just remember to smile...

As strongly asserted in Special Edition V65, the clock is indeed ticking... The combined visitor count of The Llano Ledger and The Llano Ledger 2 websites stands in excess of 53,200, -- another excellent week and true testament to the shameless willingness of the readership to "steal" this writer's labor. Certainly, you ought to be proud of yourselves. Nothing quite like character, is there? Readers are advised this writer receives no renumeration from the banner and pop-up advertising. They only pay for the website itself. There is no personal compensation, nor are there desperately needed funds for investigative expenses. Non-profit and outrageously unfunded by the readership it serves due to greed, gut-wrenching fear, and the continuing relentless intimidation of corrupt and abusive Llano County officials, this publication remains as always beholden to NO ONE.
