While the business and church communities stood tall during the recent Kingsland flood catastrophe, there was one glaring exception.  On 10-17-18, the Antlers Coffee Shop closed due to storm-related failure of the Kingsland water system.  Patrons, however, are routinely allowed to get online outside even when the shop is closed.

A long-term coffee shop customer entered the hotel lobby to ask the desk clerk whether wifi was still up and running after the catastrophe.  She said it was and told the patron he could get online inside the closed shop.  She then asked him to have another regular customer who had just arrived outside to come in and get out of the cold as well.

Antlers co-proprietor Rick apparently quickly got wind of both customers, made quite a jackass of himself emulating the petulant narcissist currently occupying the Oval Office.  Aggressive stupidity at a time the Kingsland business community is indeed suffering, can least afford it.  Further proof positive of the old adage 'can fix ignorant, can't fix stupid.'

Why would, why should both customers put up with this?  Think this hasn't happened to others?

Seatbelts on.  CBS News reports:

"Vietnam veteran Stanley Stoltz died alone in Omaha this month. It looked like he would be buried alone, until strangers braved the bitter cold to honor a man they never met. There were hundreds of strangers in military fatigues and civilian attire, remembering the service and patriotism of the 73-year-old army private. The rallying cry for Stoltz began a week ago, when the funeral home was concerned no one would show at the burial and posted a notice in the Omaha World-Herald. It said, "The public is invited to the cemetery to honor a Vietnam veteran with no known family."

Incredibly sad, isn't it?  No family.

"Some siblings were eventually located, but the notice went viral and the public responded."

Did they ever.

"First it came out that no immediate family was going to be there, so I thought, I'll be there," said Robert Bussant. "He needs to be honored."

Indeed.

"Stoltz was born in 1945, and grew up on a farm in Curlew, Iowa, before he served his country. President Lincoln once made a promise "to care for him who shall have borne the battle." That promise was kept for this veteran, and his sacrifice will not be forgotten."

No question.


Passing of a President. '41'.  NPR reports:

"George Herbert Walker Bush died Friday at the age of 94. George W. Bush released a statement, saying for himself and his siblings, "Jeb, Neil, Marvin, Doro, and I are saddened to announce that after 94 remarkable years, our dear Dad has died." "George H.W. Bush was a man of the highest character and the best dad a son or daughter could ask for," he said. "The entire Bush family is deeply grateful for 41's life and love, for the compassion of those who have cared and prayed for Dad, and for the condolences of our friends and fellow citizens."

"There were fears that after his wife, Barbara, died in April, Bush might die, too. He was admitted to the hospital with a blood infection on April 23, one day after the funeral for the former first lady, and remained there for 13 days. He also spent time in the hospital in May and June, but lived to be the first former president to reach the age of 94."

Indeed.  -- A most remarkable life.  ... From the time at the age of 20 being shot down in the Pacific during the Second World War right up to the recent loss of his wife.  While Bush and Reagan were pointedly criticized in this publication and elsewhere for damned good reason, both men were indeed the last of their genre in the Republican Party.

Compared to what now rages in the GOP, both remain flaming liberals in comparison.  Since, however, this is an obituary and there was also great good done by the late President during his lifetime, only the good will be considered here.  This man was certainly a patriot and war hero.  Did a great job as UN Ambassador.  Treated his family and all those around him extremely well with great compassion.  Consider the following:

The Washington Post reports:

"Prescott Bush wanted his son to go right to Yale upon graduation from Andover. But Mr. Bush said his father had also insisted that privilege carried a responsibility to “put something back in, do something, help others.” His own time to serve came on his 18th birthday, when he enlisted in the Navy; within a year, he received his wings and became one of the youngest pilots in the service. Sent to the Pacific, he flew torpedo bombers off the aircraft carrier San Jacinto. On Sept. 2, 1944, his plane was hit by Japanese ground fire during a bombing run on Chichi Jima in the Bonin Islands in the western Pacific. He pressed his attack even though his plane was aflame. Mr. Bush bailed out over the ocean and was rescued by a submarine. His two crewmen were killed. The future president was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross."

NPR reports:

"Bush was inspired by a speech at Andover given by Henry L. Stimson, a two-time secretary of war and "kind of a god in those Northeastern circles," says Geoffrey Kabaservice, author of Rule and Ruin, a book about moderate Republicanism. "Hearing Stimson talk about patriotism and American values was one of the things that impelled Bush to enlist," says Lewis Gould, a historian of the Republican Party. "He was impelled by a sense of duty and put himself in harm's way, and his life goes in that direction." Bush was sworn into the Navy on his 18th birthday, soon becoming its youngest pilot. He flew nearly five-dozen missions. He was shot down on Sept. 2, 1944, over the island of Chichi Jima in the Pacific and was picked up by a submarine after floating on a raft for a couple of hours."

Above quote neglects to mention the fact the young pilot spent several hours vigorously paddling that raft away from the island the Japanese were entrenched on.  Had he been captured, would have likely been killed.

Subsequent to the above, found a far more harrowing account of what happened that day.  CBS News reports:

"Like many wartime pilots, Lt. j.g. George H.W. Bush named his airplane after a girl back home. How is it two surveyor companies, the Appraisal District, the Tax Office, the Precinct 3 Commissioner, even the goddamned Sheriff himself now states Kingsland resident James Berardi owns the lots in contention all these months?

Yet, you ludicrously assert that's not the County's legal position.  It's not?  Why not?  You claim you're not a real estate expert.  Rather than accept the advice of two surveyor companies, the Precinct 3 Commissioner, the Appraisal District, the Tax Office, and even the Sheriff himself, you've inexplicably chosen to follow the advice of property owner Johnny Greene, -- who conveniently happens to be reportedly in the oil industry.

Question to be asked.  Could you have received any 'consideration' in return, -- up to and including a bribe?  Only way to know for sure is for the District Attorney to conduct a criminal investigation.  Apparently, there has been none.  If not, why not?

Equally pointedly, why hasn't Llano County Deputy Leroy Rodriguez, Badge #764 been held criminally accountable for egregious abuse of power involving denial of property rights to this Kingsland property owner?  To say nothing of consequent resultant physical damage done to a motor home on that property.

Our achingly useless, worthless, gutless Sheriff has ignored an email vis a vis the damage this jackbooted thug is responsible for.  Interestingly, his fellow officers believe him to be an idiot.  Yet, the Sheriff continued to defend this piece of human excrement until he realized  this entire fiasco would not be swept under the carpet.

Rodriguez is indeed an idiot.  Would you believe this piece of crap ordered the motor home to be moved on to an unmarked unused Llano County road? That motor home has indeed been moved back to where it was parked before Rodriguez forced it to be moved.  Why hasn't the County paid for the cost of moving it back?  To say nothing of the damage.

Equally pointedly, why is it the County has allowed Theresa Ahrens to park and live in her tiny cottage on that very same road?  Why hasn't she been evicted by the County?  Why was she assessed taxes on an adjacent improvement she doesn't own?

Why is it, Counselor, Johnny Greene is paying for the attorney retained by Ms. Ahrens?  Is Greene attempting to make this all go away by bribery?  Greene has also informed Berardi he is going to sue.  For what?  Has Greene lost his mind?

What about Wells who installed a $4500 septic system on a lot turns out he does not own as a result of Greene, an outrageously inept County, to say nothing of the Llano County Attorney who remains equally determinedly clueless?

How about Bolen who hasn't a pot to piss in, but was nonetheless f--ked over by Greene to say nothing of an egregiously inept County, to say nothing of you and your goddamned equally incompetent office?

Would you believe the last time the Sheriff's Office happened to be 'audited' during the Garrett regime, reportedly, auditors couldn't figure out what went where and why? Yet, surprise, surprise.  Nothing was done.  There has to be transparency.  There is none.  Why would these thieving bastards want any?  ... The public should understand Llano County authorities have it all sewn up.  Did you know the Texas Attorney General does not have the authority to investigate and prosecute County authorities on his own?  The District Attorney has to call for an investigation by the Texas Rangers.  Then, the State can prosecute if it so chooses.

Consequently?  Guess what?  Nothing will happen.  Nothing ever does.  The goddamned corruption continues unabated until you, the public, pressure authorities.  Precisely, why we all enjoy the 'best' government money can buy. Dasha Fincher said a roadside drug test falsely identified her bag of cotton candy as methamphetamine. On Thursday, Fincher filed a lawsuit in federal court against Monroe County, the two deputies who arrested her as well as the company that manufactured the drug test. Deputies Cody Maples and Allen Henderson conducted the traffic stop on New Year's Eve 2016. Deputies said the car Fincher was riding in was stopped because its window tints were too dark, though they later admitted that the windows were legal."

Cooper said the family is also trying to fight the "outrage fatigue" many feel about the numerous incidences of violence against black people since Bland's death. "If you are living while black in America, we know what it feels like to have your life in jeopardy at any given point ... we’re fighting to be seen as human," Cooper said."

She was pulled over by former Texas Department of Safety Trooper Brian Encinia for failure to use her turn signal to change lanes. A confrontation ensued and Encinia was seen on dashboard camera threatening to "light up" Bland, apparently with a stun gun, before arresting her. Bland was found dead in her jail cell three days later, on July 13. Her death, which was ruled a suicide, ignited the country in protest, sparking a national conversation about racism and police discrimination. Needham said that three years later, there is still a lot her family doesn't know about the circumstances surrounding Bland's death, including what time she died, which she said is "very important." “Everything surrounding it was questionable. We'll never know. That's what hurts the most," she added."

"In December 2015, a grand jury chose not to indict the county sheriff and jail staff in connection to her death. A month later, the officer who arrested her, Encinia, was indicted for perjury. In June 2017, the perjury charge was dropped and Encinia surrendered his Texas law enforcement license. "Brian and his family appreciate the thoughtful review by the prosecutors. Dismissal was the right thing to do," Encinia's lawyer, Chip Lewis, said at the time."

"But Cooper said the perjury charge "was the minimal amount" of punishment he could receive. Inspector Frank Lempka with the U.S. Marshals in Atlanta said Brown was arrested at a relative's home and taken to the Fulton County jail for an extradition hearing to be sent back to Alabama. An arrest warrant was issued Wednesday for Brown in Alabama, charging him with attempted murder. Brown was charged in the shooting of Brian Xavier Wilson, 18, of Birmingham, who was wounded. He wasn't charged with shooting a 12-year-old girl who also was injured."

"Court records show Brown was arrested in June 2017 in Huntsville on a charge of using a gun to rob a man, but the case was dismissed three months later after prosecutors filed notice that they didn't want to pursue the case."

Bradford's family has said he had a permit to carry a weapon legally, and their attorney has said witnesses reported that Bradford was trying to help after the shooting."

All three shots could have proved fatal, the review found."

"A transgender migrant woman who died in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody in May was beaten and denied proper medical treatment, according to the results of an independent autopsy and lawyers for her family. The private forensic pathologist who conducted the second autopsy at the behest of the family of Roxsana Hernandez Rodriguez concluded the 33-year-old from Honduras likely died May 25 of "severe complications of dehydration," complicated by HIV, after she was transferred to the hospital from ICE's Cibola County Correctional Center in New Mexico. The Transgender Law Center, a civil rights legal group representing Hernandez's family, says Hernandez was repeatedly denied access to medical care when she complained of vomiting and diarrhea, and was only able to see a doctor after suffering the symptoms for days. "According to observations of other detainees who were with Ms. Hernandez Rodriguez, the diarrhea and vomiting episodes persisted over multiple days with no medical evaluation or treatment, until she was gravely ill," the autopsy says."

Gets worse.  Get this:

"The independent autopsy also uncovered "evidence of physical abuse," with deep bruising on the left and right sides of her chest, extending to her back, "indicative of blows, and/or kicks, and possible strikes with [a] blunt object." Her body also had deep soft tissue bruising on her wrists "typical of handcuff injuries." The autopsy says the bruising wasn't visible externally. "She came to the U.S. seeking protection, and instead was met with torture," Egyes said."

"ICE denies that Hernandez was abused while in their custody.  In a statement, the agency said Hernandez was admitted on May 17 to Cibola General Hospital with symptoms of pneumonia, dehydration and complications associated with untreated HIV before her death. "ICE takes very seriously the health, safety and welfare of those in our care, including those who come into ICE custody with prior medical conditions or who have never before received appropriate medical care," an ICE spokesperson said in a statement. "Any death that happens in ICE custody is a cause for concern, and the agency will continue its full review of this case according to standard protocols."

"It's not fair. It's not fair that she fled Honduras looking for a better life and instead she was murdered. Now all we have left with is the hope that we can see justice for her."

A request from CBS News for a copy of that autopsy report is pending, and Free said he also has yet to see the initial autopsy."

On May 13, Hernandez entered ICE custody in San Diego, and she was transferred two days later to an ICE facility in El Paso, according to ICE. She arrived May 16 at the Cibola County Correctional Center in Milan, New Mexico, which houses a specialized unit for transgender women."

"Before she arrived at Cibola, Hernandez apparently traveled through several states via bus and plane with other detained transgender women who were being transferred to the facility, said Free, citing interviews with those women. The women said Hernandez's condition deteriorated and she became weaker while in transit. They said she was vomiting and having diarrhea, but she was denied medical care, handcuffed, wasn't allowed to go to the bathroom and wasn't given enough water. Other detainees asked for water for her, Free said. CoreCivic, which operates the facility for ICE, said in a statement that Hernandez was only at the Cibola facility for about 12 hours before she was transferred to a hospital. ICE said she was admitted to Cibola General Hospital and later airlifted to Lovelace Medical Center, where she remained in intensive care until she died on May 25. Staff there listed her preliminary cause of death as cardiac arrest, according to ICE."

"Though the timeline remains unclear, Free said he believes Hernandez was beaten while she was at Cibola, because the women interviewed said they believed they would have seen it had she been abused while they were all detained together, and there was no indication she was abused while in the hospital.

"Free and the Transgender Law Center this week filed a notice of wrongful death tort claim in New  Mexico, the first step in filing a lawsuit in the case."

Guyger has said she mistakenly went to his apartment instead of her own and shot him. The court records were posted Friday before authorities were set to announce a grand jury's decision on the case. She was arrested days after the Sept. 6 shooting that killed Jean, 26, who was from the Caribbean island nation of St. Lucia. Guyger told investigators she mistook Jean's apartment for her own and thought she'd encountered an intruder. She has since been fired from the department and Jean's family has filed a lawsuit against Guyger and the city of Dallas.

"Guyger told investigators that after finishing a 15-hour shift, she returned home in-uniform and parked on the fourth floor of her apartment complex's garage, rather than the third floor, where her unit was located, according to an affidavit prepared by the Texas Rangers. She said she got to what she thought was her apartment — Jean's was directly above hers — and found the door ajar. She opened it to find a figure standing in the darkness. She said she pulled her gun and fired twice after the person ignored her commands. Lee Merritt, an attorney for the Jean family, has said the document is an attempt to "condone what happened, give her a break." Guyger has since been fired from the department and Jean's family has filed a lawsuit against Guyger and the city of Dallas. The federal suit argues Guyger used excessive force in the shooting and contends the department did not give her adequate training."

Frey called the tree a "racist display" and said the unidentified officer's termination is necessary. "This behavior is racist, despicable, and is well beneath the standards of any person who serves the city of Minneapolis," Frey said in a statement. "The offending party will be fired before the day is over. Shifting the culture of the police department requires swift and decisive action. Termination is necessary — both to discipline the officer and to send a clear message: Chief (Medaria) Arradondo and I will not tolerate conduct that departs from our values." The head of the police officer's union did not immediately return a message from The Associated Press seeking comment on the officer's firing. Arradondo called the display "racially insensitive" and said it was removed. He said he has started a full investigation into the incident. "I am ashamed and appalled by the behavior of those who would feel comfortable to act in such a manner that goes against our core department values of trust, accountability and professional service," Arradondo said in a statement."

They included a pack of Newport cigarettes, a cup from Popeyes Louisiana Chicken, a bag of Takis and a can of Steel Reserve malt liquor beer. According to the Star Tribune , City Council Member Phillipe Cunningham wrote on Facebook that an officer hung the inappropriate items as a prank after the tree was decorated. Also Friday, the Minneapolis City Council voted to reduce the mayor's proposed police budget for 2019 by more than $1 million."

"The commander of a Minneapolis police precinct has been replaced following uproar over Christmas tree decorations that the mayor said amounted to a "racist display." The Christmas tree at the Fourth Precinct station on the city's north side was decorated with items such as Newport cigarettes, police crime tape, a can of malt liquor and a Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen cup. Minneapolis Police spokesman John Elder confirmed Monday that inspector Aaron Biard had been removed as commander of the precinct. Police Chief Medaria Arradondo said in a statement that Assistant Chief Mike Kjos will be responsible for the precinct's day-to-day operations until a replacement is found. Kjos previously served as the precinct's commander, the Star Tribune reported. Two Minneapolis officers were placed on paid leave Friday for their apparent involvement in the decorations. Mayor Jacob Frey called the decorations "despicable" and said they amounted to a "racist display." A picture of the tree circulated online before the items were removed.

"We need to look into how many officers actually walked past this and was OK with it."

The U.S. Department of Justice announced the indictments of Officers Dustin Boone, Randy Hays, Christopher Myers and Bailey Colletta. All four are suspended without pay, the city said. The indictment follows an FBI investigation requested last year by St. Louis police. The protests erupted in September 2017 following the acquittal of former police officer Jason Stockley. Stockley, who is white, was found not guilty in the 2011 death of a black suspect, Anthony Lamar Smith."

"The indictment alleges that Boone, Hays and Myers beat the undercover officer during a protest on Sept. 17, 2017, and that the three along with Colletta covered it up. Body camera footage contradicted the deputy's report and showed that he delayed entering the building. The commission said former student Nikolas Cruz had already killed 17 and wounded 17 others by the time Eason arrived, but some people inside needed immediate help."

"Prosecutors in Minnesota are seeking to file a second-degree murder charge against a former Minneapolis police officer who fatally shot a woman in 2017 after she called for help, court documents show. Mohamed Noor had been previously charged with third-degree murder and a manslaughter charge for shooting Justine Damond, 40, on July 15, 2017, after she called 911 to report a possible sexual assault in an alley behind her home. Prosecutors on Thursday filed a motion seeking to amend the criminal complaint against him to add a charge of second-degree murder before his scheduled April 1 trial, saying that there is probable cause that Noor "intended to kill" Damond "when he aimed and fired at her."

"After Damond, whose last name is Ruszczyk but who was to be married and had already taken her fiance’s last name, called police Noor and his partner arrived in their sport-utility vehicle and she approached the SUV, officials have said. "Despite his repeated protests to multiple jail officers, his offer to produce proof, and the jail's own records, the Sheriff's Office held Mr. Brown so that ICE could deport him to Jamaica — a country where he has never lived and knows no one," the lawsuit says."

"The Sheriff's Office ignored all the indications that it was illegally detaining Mr. Brown. It did nothing to investigate his citizenship. It did not contact ICE to pass along this urgent information, or ask for a review of Mr. Brown's files. It did not seek any further information from Mr. Brown or anyone else. It simply held Mr. Brown, in violation of his constitutional rights and after he was entitled to release under state law, so that he could be picked up by ICE and deported from the country." Brown, according to the lawsuit, was born in Philadelphia and had only visited Jamaica once for a day on a cruise. "A police officer in Aurora, Colorado, will not face criminal charges in the July fatal shooting of armed homeowner Richard "Gary" Black, a Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient who had just moments prior killed an intruder who was allegedly attacking his grandson. In a letter announcing his office's decision, Adams County District Attorney Dave Young said officers had "repeatedly ordered" Black to drop his gun and show his hands. "The man ignored the commands and continued to advance toward the officers while armed with a handgun," Young said in his letter."

The District Attorney is protecting his own rather than the public he has sworn to protect as prosecutor.

"Around 1:30 a.m. on July 30, police were responding to reports of an intruder attacking a child at Black's home, authorities said. Shortly after arriving, officers heard gunfire within the house. Young said officers saw a white male, later identified as Black, emerge from a hallway. Black, 73, had just fatally shot 26-year-old Dajon Harper, who'd been allegedly assaulting Black's 11-year-old grandson in the family's bathroom, authorities said. "The male (Black) was armed with a handgun in one hand and held a flashlight in the other," Young said in his letter. "Officers gave the male repeated verbal commands to drop the gun and show his hands. The male ignored the commands and appeared to conceal himself from the officers' view." Young said that when Black emerged again and entered the living room, he was still holding the gun. "He quickly raised his flashlight toward the front door where the officers stood with their guns drawn," Young said. "With a split second, an officer fired his weapon four times at the male, killing him." On Monday, authorities identified the officer who shot Black as Officer Drew Limbaugh."

"In bodycam video released on the Aurora Police Department's YouTube page, Black can be seen inside the house wearing a robe as officers yell: "Drop the gun!" and "Let me see your hands!" Do not touch the gun!" the officer then yells as Black moves around on the floor."

"When an officer is involved in a shooting, officers need time to recover and there needs to be a procedure in place to give them time to re-acclimate back into the force, to re-acclimate back into night duty. Metz said Monday in the video release that Limbaugh remained in a "non-enforcement" role and that an internal investigation would begin."

"A woman booked into a men's jail in Miami after she was wrongly deemed transgender had her lawsuit over the incident upheld. Fiordaliza Pichardo was booked as a male at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center after a staff doctor and nurse wrongfully classified her as a male following her arrest for an outstanding warrant stemming from an earlier drug charge, according to her lawsuit filed in federal court. She spent about 10 hours in a holding cell with about 40 men before she was released on bail, her lawsuit claims. Pichardo was jailed in December 2013 and initially sued in September 2016, but the claim was thrown out by a federal judge who said the jail employees were protected against claims of neglect. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit on Nov. 21 reinstated her lawsuit against Miami-Dade County, the county's corrections department and the nurse and doctor at the jail where she was booked. The ruling found that the nurse and doctor “knew that sending a woman to an all-male prison would pose a risk of serious harm to her safety," but that the pair "took no steps at all to verify Mrs. Pichardo’s sex before reclassifying her as male."

Needless to say, this case will be carefully followed.

Trump stonewalls the Senate.  NPR reports:

"Angry senators on Wednesday [11-28-18] accused the Trump administration of stonewalling in an effort to avoid linking Saudi Arabia's crown prince to the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. In a rare rebuke of the White House, even Republicans complained they weren't getting the full story. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., threatened to withhold key votes until he gets the answers he is looking for. Lawmakers also vented their frustration during a procedural vote on Yemen. The complaints started with the personnel involved. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis delivered a closed-door briefing to senators on Wednesday, but CIA Director Gina Haspel was conspicuously absent on Capitol Hill. Haspel traveled to Turkey as part of the information-gathering process and is said to have heard an audio recording that depicts Khashoggi's death. Her absence from the Senate left Pompeo and Mattis to echo the more skeptical interpretation Trump has taken of the CIA's assessment."

No more than a goddamned whitewash:

"There is no direct reporting connecting the crown prince to the order to murder Jamal Khashoggi," Pompeo told reporters. "That's all I can say in an unclassified setting." Mattis agreed there is no "smoking gun" to link the crown prince, who is also known as MBS, to Khashoggi's Oct. 2 killing at the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul."

The Senators would have none of it.

"Several senators were not convinced. "I don't think there's anybody in that room that doesn't believe he was responsible for it," said Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee."

"It's outrageous that the Senate can be stonewalled from hearing from the CIA director," added Sen. Bob Menendez, D-N.J., the committee's top Democrat."

No kidding.  Even rattled the cage of Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham:

"Graham, typically a reliable supporter of the president's, said he would have trouble voting for a must-pass spending bill or other legislation until he hears from the CIA director. "Anything you need me for, to get out of town, I ain't doing it," Graham threatened. "I'm not going to be denied the ability to be briefed by the CIA, that we have oversight of, about whether or not their assessment supports my belief that this could not have happened without MBS knowing."

"The senators' frustration spilled over into a procedural vote Wednesday on a resolution to end U.S. support for the Saudi-led war in Yemen. Senators voted 63-37 to advance the measure. A final vote on the resolution is not expected before next week. Pompeo warned that withdrawing American support from the war could undermine U.S. efforts to broker a cease-fire.

"But senators were in no mood to back down. "The Khashoggi incident has also gotten a lot of people's attention," said Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, a co-sponsor of the resolution to end support for the war. He wondered why, after the killing, the U.S. should "so blindly and so willingly" join the Saudis in their war in Yemen. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., agreed with that sentiment. "We are not going to be continuing to be part of that humanitarian disaster," Sanders said. "We are ending our participation in that horrific war."

If Congress fails to cut off funding, that will likely not happen.

The 63-to-37 vote means the resolution can be considered by the full Senate, but it does not officially launch debate on the matter. That will happen next week, provided the Senate passes a second procedural vote — which seems likely, senators said, unless the Trump administration takes definitive steps to hold Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman accountable for Khashoggi’s murder.

"Wednesday’s vote marks the first time a majority of senators have ignored the warnings of both party’s leaders and the president to formally endorse calls for limiting U.S. military aid to Saudi Arabia. It is a signal that Republicans and Democrats are done making excuses for the kingdom’s human rights abuses, lawmakers said."

"CIA Director Gina Haspel appeared on Capitol Hill on Tuesday to brief key senators on the agency’s assessment that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman probably ordered the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Haspel had faced mounting pressure to speak to lawmakers and more fully explain the CIA’s findings, which President Trump has said don’t conclusively show that Mohammed was involved in the assassination. Haspel was noticeably absent last week from an all-senators briefing with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis. Lawmakers complained that the Trump administration was depriving Congress of key information about the killing of Khashoggi, a Washington Post contributing columnist, by refusing to order Haspel to go to the Hill and explain the CIA’s assessment. The CIA has concluded that Mohammed probably ordered the killing, based in part on intercepted communications involving him and a key aide, who is alleged to have overseen the team that killed the journalist inside the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul in October, according to people familiar with the matter. The spy agency also analyzed other intercepted communications, listened to audio provided by Turkey from inside the consulate, and assessed that an audacious operation that involved killing a Saudi citizen in a foreign country could not have been executed without the crown prince’s knowledge, people familiar with the CIA’s conclusions said."

Some rank-and-file senators were furious that they were excluded from the briefing. “I can’t even ask to be included in it because I didn’t know it was going to happen, except for reading about it in the media. That’s not the way it should be. She should have come and testified in front of all senators,” Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said. “If you have some senators who are more equal than others, that is not democratic representation.”

"I went into the briefing believing it was virtually impossible for an operation like this to be carried out without the crown prince's knowledge," Graham added. "I left the briefing with high confidence that my initial assessment of the situation was correct." Sen. Bob Corker, an outspoken Republican critic of President Trump and his response to Khashoggi's killing, stressed, "If the crown prince went in front of a jury, he would be convicted in 30 minutes." Asked by a reporter if it would be a murder conviction, Corker replied "yes."

"Mr. Trump has repeatedly defended the Saudi government in the wake of the Khashoggi killing in October. In November, the president said that bin Salman may have had no knowledge of the killing, and in any event the U.S. relationship with Saudi Arabia should not be jeopardized.

"All evidence leads back to the crown prince" Republican Sen. Richard Shelby told reporters as he left the briefing on Tuesday. Two senators present told CBS News that Haspel did not share with lawmakers the audio tapes from the day Khashoggi was killed and reportedly dismembered inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey. Secretary of Defense James Mattis has said the U.S. does not have any such tapes in its possession."

Tim Scott of South Carolina, the chamber’s only African American Republican, would not commit to supporting him, even as he voted to move the nomination forward. Vice President Pence cast a tie-breaking vote to help Senate Republicans move Farr, who defended voting laws that a court ruled were designed to disenfranchise minority voters, to a final roll call expected later this week. The vote was 51 to 50. After a nearly hour-long wait Wednesday, Scott cast a procedural vote to move ahead with Farr’s nomination, dashing Democratic hopes that he would join them to defeat it. Scott did not reveal his intentions publicly until he cast his vote Wednesday afternoon."

In addition to requiring residents to show identification before they could cast a ballot, the law also eliminated same-day voter registration, got rid of seven days of early voting and ended out-of-precinct voting."

Jeff Flake and all Senate Democrats, means there is not enough support for the nomination to go forward."

I take my role in that process very seriously, as we want to ensure the judicial branch remains honest, fair, and impartial." The statement continued, "This week, a Department of Justice memo written under President George H.W. Bush was released that shed new light on Mr. Farr's activities. This, in turn, created more concerns. Weighing these important factors, this afternoon I concluded that I could not support Mr. Farr's nomination."

"A final vote on Farr's nomination scheduled for Thursday was delayed by Senate Republicans to next week, but there was no immediate indication of whether the nomination would be withdrawn."

His nomination was eventually pulled."

Cohen rattles Trump's cage with new plea deal.  The Washington Post reports:

"Michael Cohen, a former personal attorney to President Trump, pleaded guilty Thursday in New York to lying to Congress about a Moscow real estate project that Trump and his company pursued during the months he was running for president. In a nine-page filing, prosecutors laid out a litany of lies that Cohen admitted he told to congressional lawmakers about the Moscow project — an attempt, Cohen said, to minimize links between the proposed development and Trump as his presidential bid was taking off. Cohen falsely said efforts to build a Trump-branded tower in Moscow ended in January 2016, when in fact discussions continued through that year, the filing said. Among the people Cohen briefed on the status of the project was Trump himself, on more than three occasions, according to the document. Trump has repeatedly said that he had no business dealings in Russia, tweeting in July 2016, “For the record, I have ZERO investments in Russia” and telling reporters in January 2017 that he had no deals there because he had “stayed away.” Cohen’s new guilty plea is the latest development in a wide-ranging investigation by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III into Russian interference in the 2016 election."

"According to the criminal information filed by prosecutors, Cohen sent a two-page letter to the committee in which he “knowingly and deliberately” made false statements, including that the Moscow project “ended in January 2016 and was not discussed extensively with others in the company,” that Cohen “never agreed to travel to Russia in connection with the Moscow project and ‘never considered’ asking Individual 1 to travel for the project,” and that Cohen “did not recall any Russian government response or contact about the Moscow Project.” The document does not identify “Individual 1,” but according to people familiar with the case, that person is President Trump. “Cohen discussed the status and progress of the Moscow Project with Individual 1 on more than the three occasions Cohen claimed to the committee, and he briefed family members of Individual 1 within the Company about the project,” according to the information. The document goes on to say Cohen made those statements attempting to conceal or minimize a number of facts, including that the project “was discussed multiple times within the company and did not end in January 2016,” but rather Cohen and “Individual 2” discussed the efforts as late as June 2016. The document does not identify Individual 2, but people familiar with the investigation said it is Sater. The document also says that Cohen discussed in May of 2016 the possibility that he might travel to Russia before the Republican National Convention and that Individual 1 might travel there after the convention, but a month later, told “Individual 2” - Sater - that he would not be making such a trip."

"Michael Cohen reached a new plea deal Thursday [11-29-18] with the team of special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, in which he admitted to lying to Congress about an effort to build a Trump Tower in Moscow."

Why is that important?  Here is the take of The Post's Aaron Blake:

"1. There are conspicuous mentions of Trump and his family. In written testimony to both the House and Senate intelligence committees last year, Cohen said the Trump Tower Moscow deal was abandoned in January 2016. “By the end of January 2016, I determined that the proposal was not feasible for a variety of business reasons and should not be pursued further,” Cohen said. The plea deal, though, says that not only did Cohen continue to pursue the project through June 2016, but also that he briefed Trump on it more than the three times he had originally claimed, and also that he briefed Trump’s family members."

Someone's lying.  Guess who.

"2. Putin’s spokesman appears to have helped cover this up. It has been reported that Cohen emailed Russian President Vladimir Putin’s press office in January 2016 seeking to grease the skids for the deal. But Cohen had said he never heard back. Turns out, that was a lie. An assistant to Putin’s top spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, emailed him back, according to the plea deal, and then Cohen spoke with the assistant on the phone for 20 minutes. But Cohen wasn’t the only one who lied about it. So, too, apparently, did Peskov. Here’s what Peskov said of the matter in August 2017: “ . . . Since, I repeat again, we do not react to such business topics — this is not our work — we left it unanswered.”

"3. This ties the Trump family’s efforts to the Russian government. As Cohen was planning to travel to Russia, his Russian associate Felix Sater relayed a message that Cohen might even get an audience with Putin or Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. Sater told Cohen that Peskov “would like to invite you as his guest to the St. Petersburg Forum which is Russia’s Davos it’s June 16- 19. He wants to meet there with you and possibly introduce you to either [the President of Russia] or [the Prime Minister of Russia], as they are not sure if 1 or both will be there.” So Cohen not only received a reply from Peskov’s office but also that office was making high-level arrangements for him — the lawyer and fixer for an American presidential candidate. The question from here is how much Trump knew and when. If Putin’s office was helping him with a business proposal during the 2016 election, that casts his Russia commentary in whole new light. And Trump is already having to retreat from his previous claims of not having business in Russia."

"4. The deal apparently died the day The Post broke a story about Russian hacking. The plea deal indicates that the last known discussion about the deal was “on or about June 14,” 2016, when Cohen told Sater that he was canceling plans to travel to Russia. Why is that date significant? It happens to be the day The Washington Post broke a big story that Russia had hacked the Democratic National Committee."

The noose is clearly figuratively tightening.  Mueller has been methodically, carefully conducting this investigation.  Precisely, why Trump continues to scream bloody murder as the indictments, pleas, convictions move closer and closer to the kingpin.

"Acting attorney general Matthew G. Whitaker was notified in advance that President Trump’s former personal attorney would plead guilty Thursday to lying to Congress about a Moscow real estate project that Trump and his company pursued while he was running for president, a person familiar with the matter said. The notification could strain relations between Whitaker and Trump, who reacted to the plea by accusing his former attorney, Michael Cohen, of lying to spare himself prison time. As acting attorney general, Whitaker is the nominal supervisor of special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, who has been investigating Cohen and signed his plea Thursday. That is important because as a legal commentator before he came to the Justice Department, Whitaker was highly critical of Mueller’s work, even suggesting an acting attorney general could stifle Mueller’s budget to shut down his probe. Democrats and others have called unsuccessfully for Whitaker to recuse himself from the case, in part because of his past comments, fearing he might take steps to interfere with the ongoing investigation."

Think he won't?  Already hasn't?  Here's why this is a problem:

"Justice Department policies and special-counsel regulations call for Whitaker to be notified of significant events, including “major developments in significant investigations” and “events affecting the Department that are likely to generate national media or Congressional attention.” Importantly, though, the regulations do not require the attorney general to approve such steps. The attorney general can request that the special counsel explain a step that is being taken and can conclude that an action is “so unwarranted under established Departmental practices that it should not be pursued.” The attorney general is supposed to give “great weight” to the special counsel’s views, and at the end of the case Congress is supposed to be notified of any proposed action that was vetoed. It was not immediately clear when the special counsel’s office notified Whitaker of Cohen’s plea, or how Whitaker reacted. Cohen’s appearance Thursday in federal court in Manhattan, at which he admitted lying about the Moscow project, surprised many in the media. A Justice Department spokeswoman declined to comment."

In the document filed Thursday with Cohen’s guilty plea, the Mueller team explains that while Cohen testified and said publicly that the Moscow project was abandoned before the Iowa caucus in early 2016, that was in fact false:

The independent government agency, which enforces the Hatch Act, determined that Shad violated the law when he tweeted on June 4 linking to research from the Republican National Committee promoting Trump's first 500 days in office. The now-deleted tweeted said, "Fantastic @RNCResearch release #Winning: 500 Days Of American Greatness" and linked to an RNC webpage outlining the Trump administration accomplishments and included a button to make political contributions to the RNC. Shah, who is press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders' second-in-command, was one of the most senior people the watchdog agency said had violated the law. The agency said although it concluded Shah and other communication staffers violated the act it declined to pursue disciplinary action and closed their files."

"In one of the largest cybersecurity breaches in history, Marriott International said Friday that information on up to about 500 million of its customers worldwide was exposed in a breach of its Starwood guest reservation database dating as far back as 2014. The world's largest hotel chain said it learned of the breach on Sept. 8."

"For 327 million of the affected guests, the compromised data includes "some combination of name, mailing address, phone number, email address, passport number, Starwood Preferred Guest ("SPG") account information, date of birth, gender, arrival and departure information, reservation date, and communication preferences," the company said. For some customers, the information "also includes payment card numbers and payment card expiration dates, but the payment card numbers were encrypted," Marriott added. But the company said it could not rule out the possibility that the hackers were able to decrypt those details. Marriott said it reported the data breach to law enforcement officials and has begun to notify "regulatory authorities." The attorneys general of New York, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts said they've opened investigations into the breach.

The judge cited the administration’s “lack of authority to impose the three conditions on federal funding” and noted “the separation of powers acts as a check on tyranny and the concentration of power.”

"Wells Fargo says a computer glitch is partly to blame for an error affecting an estimated 545 customers who lost their homes. The giant bank filed papers with the Securities and Exchange Commission last month, revealing it incorrectly denied 870 loan modification requests. "Legislators, housing advocates, regulators and most importantly, the people who lost their homes – people like Jose Aguilar – are asking how this happened. "It's been very hard for me. It's something I wouldn't wish upon anybody," Aguilar told CBS News correspondent Anna Werner.

"He said the problems began when he and his ex-wife found mold in the house. He tried to remediate it himself but fell a few months behind on the mortgage payments. Welcome.   Liberty In Peril has been relaunched at a new URL:
libertyinperil.com. This is a new commercial site hosted in an overseas
country, which unlike our own, does value free speech, Net security,
privacy, equally importantly, despises hackers.  Banks too big to fail
should not have the ability to shut down ftp servers on four Liberty In
Peril websites, making upload impossible.  -- Simply, because they don't
want the truth of their criminal activity reported to the public.

Should this site not be kept up, running, and fully operational, the
libertyinperil.com domain will be quickly moved to a different host
despite cost and hassle.  No more bullsh-t.  Criminal complaints will be
prepared and filed against Amanda Wright, Lynn Massey, and the equally
criminal bastards in the Wells Fargo corporate management suite for
egregious deceptive trade practices.

Email notification of local businesses of these practices, has and will,
continue unabated until Wells Fargo accepts responsibility, ceases these

after the ftp servers were hacked, a blizzard of these emails was sent to
local businesses to keep intense pressure on the criminal bastards at
Wells Fargo.  Copies of these emails were sent to bank officials.  They

In addition, all new Newsletter Editions will feature an
available abbreviated version, smart phone friendly, that can be accessed
by clicking on the icon. Will supplement the regular format of this
publication.  This is being done because so many of you access this
publication with smart phones and other devices with small screens.

This site has finally been fully uploaded.  All links appear to be
properly working.  Typos in the rush to get material up have also been
corrected.  There will be a few additional changes to be made as time
allows.  Including, again, a smart phone-friendly abbreviated version of
each future Newsletter Edition starting with v434 that will be available
in addition to the regular edition.

Hopefully, now, I can finally get back to the business of this
publication, that is exposure of corrupt, abusive, inept, clueless
government lackeys beholden to their corporate masters, rather than
dealing with recalcitrant webhosts.  We'll see.  With the
libertyinperil.com domain, however, any necessary changes in webhosts will
be easy to make since all links won't have to be changed or deactivated.

The pressure on Wells Fargo will continue unabated.  Should they further
interfere with operation of this publication, it will simply provide
additional fodder for criminal complaints to be filed against them.

On 9-22-15, Kingsland Wells Fargo Store Manager Amanda Wright forced
closure of two accounts because for nearly three years this writer has
publicly accused her, her predecessor Lynn Massey, and the Wells Fargo
corporate management suite of engaging in criminal deceptive trade
practices, as well as pressuring, unduly interfering and/or bribing
webhosts to take these websites down.

Apparently, they have successfully managed to unduly influence and/or
bribe the federal Consumer Financial 'Protection' Bureau and Texas
Attorney General Consumer Protection Division as well.  Forget?  The bank
is considered too big to fail.  Considers itself government.

For all practical purposes, that's perversely true.  They have money and
resources to buy not only their human chattel, but their bought and paid
for government lackeys. Be interesting to see whether or not the U.S.
Attorney is untouchable, or sadly, similarly capable of being bought.

Immediately after closure of these accounts, the three operational Liberty
In Peril FTP servers were hacked.  What that means is that while all three
sites remained operational and accessible to readers, new material could
not be uploaded. This continues to date.

Worse, 'free' accounts on all three 'free' webhosts conveniently no longer
provide technical control panel support.  Clearly, they don't want to know
there are problems. Have managed, however, to find other ways to contact
webhost management and have done precisely that.

Will take a criminal investigation to determine who hacked the sites,
however.  Most likely, Wells Fargo had a hand in it.  Certainly, have the
resources.  Highly, unlikely the Llano County Sheriff's Office was
involved.  Hard to believe they would be that stupid.  The Bank, however,
has nothing to lose. Owns its government lackeys.  The Sheriff and his
outrageously corrupt and abusive goons, however, can expect further

The effort to expose Wells Fargo egregious deceptive trade practices continues.  Several years ago to determinedly apply renewed pressure on our truly worthless, egregiously self-serving Texas Attorney General, now Governor, an excoriating email was sent to the bastard.  Copies of which were also passed on to both offending Wells Fargo officers. A copy was also sent to the Davis campaign and others at the time.

Voters did have a right to know as Attorney General, the GOP candidate for Governor apparently selectively investigated, or not, bona fide complaints filed by citizens against banks too big to fail.  Possibly, Wells Fargo could have lined his pockets in some fashion.  That has yet to be determined.

The bastard and his office, no matter what, failed to respond to the complaint originally snail mailed several years ago.  This material, figuratively targeting Wells Fargo and the governor 'wannabe' now Governor, had been posted and can be found by scrolling all the way down and clicking on the links well below.  ... Governor?  Wells Fargo bribe you to look the other way?

Will continue to do all I can to publicly expose this to all, both in this publication and elsewhere.  Have done precisely that with the following email sent to Owner, Quik Granite Solutions, Marble Falls, TX.  A copy of it was also sent to Wells Fargo officer Amanda Wright.  She has, indeed, been promoted  branch manager. The name of this publication was changed some fifteen years ago from The Llano Ledger to Liberty In Peril.  The reason?  Simple.  Cowardly failure of this community to stand up to tyranny that has only exponentially worsened the last decade and a half.  Clearly, demonstrated as well by the cowardly failure of businesses to financially support this publication.  Either through advertising or other financial support.  Too afraid doing so would enrage the bastards who run and own this hellhole County.

Tough, isn't it?  Impossible to entertain any sympathy for cowardice, however.  Especially in view of the fact this writer has placed himself in great jeopardy taking on these corrupt, abusive, inept criminal bastards.  Alone.

Exactly, why you see no investigative material highly critical of these sons of bitches in other local rags.  Sadly, cowardly, all advertising income immediately dries up.  Consequently, the bastards continue their criminal chicanery with impunity.  On a rampage.  Thus, you get what you truly deserve.  Always.  Precisely, why this earlier name change to Liberty In Peril remains appropriate.  -- Despite the fact this writer has not yet left the area.  Ten years after originally intending to do so.  Thirty years in this goddamned godforsaken hellhole.

This writer, then and now, remains primarily interested in state, federal, and international issues.  Another reason for this publication name change.  Despite the fact I stupidly cluelessly remain here, local issues mustbe addressed.  Can't be ignored.  That's where you come in dear readers.  Have the courage to inform this writer of local abuse, corruption, ineptness you are aware of, have personally experienced.

... Information these criminal bastards do all they can to conceal, cover up.  Otherwise, how can they effectively sustain the charade and intended result?  Loot confiscation through a boot heel on the throat of the citizenry.

The only way, short of an unwanted dreaded second American revolution, to force badly-needed change is to expose all this to the light of day.  These bastards are beginning to understand they have a problem.  No question, the growing rage of those they've abused, looted, egregiously f--ked.  It's time to stand up.  Expose this corruption to glaring sunlight.  Otherwise, as fools, cowards, you will remain under their thumb.  From the loftiest business owner to those on the bottom of the food chain.  Wake up.  Grow a pair.

Then, you gallingly complain about the oppression as you tolerate egregious theft of your labor. Not only by your corporate masters, but their bought and paid for government lackeys.  Too cowardly to stand up, allow disclosure of your identity when you rightfully complain to this publication of being mercilessly f--ked. Some of you falsely arrested, criminally assaulted, bogusly fined for 'offenses' you did not commit.  To line County coffers.  Keep the peasants in line and under control.  A fascist police-state. Nazi America.

Again, yet another reason why this publication is called Liberty In Peril.  Most galling? Nothing changes if you fail to step up and challenge corrupt, abusive, inept authority.  Too afraid, cowardly compliant to let the bastards know who you are.  Did it ever occur to the cowards out there if the identity of the accuser is kept under wraps the bastards will falsely claim it's all made up by this publication?  Thus, conveniently killing all credibility.  Wake up.

Click here for a most interesting conversation between JP2 Linda Ballard and LCRA Communications Supervisor Mitch Hibbs who at the time was investigating a complaint made by the Henderson family against the 'judge.'  The recording had been made by Hibbs and provided by Phyllis Henderson who had gotten it through an open records request.   During the course of the recording you will hear the 'judge' make a terroristic threat against the Henderson family which the investigator laughingly shrugged off as a joke.

Seems former LCRA Ranger Lance Bilski, stepson of Llano County Sheriff Bill Blackburn, had been harassing the Henderson family regarding their tire business, Henderson Tire.  Worse? There are unsubstantiated allegations, that although very much attached, Bilski may have indeed engaged in improprieties, that is, egregiously unprofessional conduct relevant to the Henderson complaint.  All this had been covered in Newsletter Text V346.
