"Kentucky police helped out a raccoon whose head was trapped inside a plastic peanut butter jar. (Paducah Police Department) A raccoon in Kentucky could have been in an “aw-fur” situation without the help of police early Sunday. Police in Paducah helped free a critter that was running around with its head trapped inside a peanut butter jar. Authorities shared photos of the rescue on Facebook and described the “close encounter of the raccoon kind.” Sgt. Shawn Craven told Fox News he was out driving when he noticed what he thought was just a raccoon crossing the street."

"He looked in his rear-view mirror and noticed the animal hit a curb head-first — so he turned around and made a call over the radio. The raccoon, he said, turned out to have its head stuck in a jar. Officer Steve Thompson later arrived at the scene to witness the sticky situation. Thompson “corralled the disoriented little guy,” police said, noting that he and another sergeant tried getting the jar off. The jar was eventually loosened — and the racoon raced off. “He promptly ran off without so much as a thank you,” authorities quipped."

Comes as no surprise, does it? ... Or, does it? Think carefully. Good, compassionate, caring officers should not mistake ferocious criticism of their outrageously corrupt, abusive, inept colleagues as criticism of all officers. Simply, not so. Good officers need to rein in the bad. Happening not for a number of reasons. Needs to change. Forget? No one more qualified to weed out a miscreant than an honest cop.

Moreover, compassionate policing should not be equated with softness on crime. -- There are times when officers have no choice but to haul someone's sorry ass to jail. Use force, including deadly force. Should be the exception, however, not the rule as has become the case, currently.

Moreover, and most importantly? Reinforcement for compassionate policing should be knowing you did the right thing. No matter criticism from superiors or the public. Policing requires good judgment. While education and training certainly help, an officer either has it, or doesn't.

That's the problem. The ubiquitous 'police mentality.' Unsustainable. Precisely, why faith and trust in law enforcement remain in dire jeopardy. One of the reasons why an unwanted dreaded second American revolution catastrophically looms. ... Hear the rumble?

Sounds like reinforcement of personal opinion coming from a researcher who has knowingly or not embraced the current unsustainable status quo in policing. If the author's findings are indeed true, both class types of officers need to grow up. Wake up. Smell the coffee.

Study also has to be questioned since it assumes dichotomy of officers is simply two-fold. Either-or. Black or white. No shades of gray, brilliant hues of color. Hard to believe the entire population of officers fits into one or the other. Officers seem to run along a continuum. That is, throughout the entire spectrum.

From the 'Barney Fife' type to Attila The Hun. Most importantly, no matter what, personal reinforcement, motivation has to come from within, -- not from public reaction good or bad. Knowing that you've done the right thing. Able to credibly justify what action you did or didn't take. Able to withstand scrutiny of superiors and/or the public. Doing the right thing in seemingly impossible circumstances. Ability to stand tall under enormous pressure.

Certainly, another reason officers need to be highly educated as well as extremely well-trained, exceptionally well paid. With an undergraduate degree in criminology and a graduate degree in one of the social sciences. Or, vice versa. True professionalism. ... Not someone tapped by a local county sheriff to pay off a political debt.

"She warned that continued frustration and the inability to cope with misunderstanding between police and the community could lead empathetic officers to leave policing altogether, and urged leaders to look into public policy initiatives that make police feel more appreciated."

Sadly, that falsely assumes the compassionate remain less capable of resilience than the criminal jackbooted storm trooper preying on the public. Simply, not credible. Sounds like she's in the corner of abusive officers rather than rightfully demanding drastic change. Status quo, not sustainable. Doomed to failure. This researcher seems to be letting personal bias in favor of law enforcement, no matter what they do or don't do, cloud her judgment:

Finally, another most interesting observation. This researcher, in a most fascinating twist, sounds like a liberal 'do gooder' in the pocket of law enforcement. Oxymoron. Egregious non-sequitur considering current body politic, present day circumstances, no? LOL.

"Austin Police Chief Brian Manley is calling for a cultural shift of the department’s training academy that will emphasize the role of officers as public servants, not strictly enforcers of the law, and treat cadets as students in an adult-learning classroom rather than military recruits."

"It is one of Manley’s first initiatives since becoming Austin’s chief June 14 and one of several goals City Manager Spencer Cronk outlined for Manley in offering him the job."

"Manley said he is already having conversations with academy instructors and asked for input about how they will accomplish the adjustments before the next cadet class in October. He may also seek an outside review."

"Manley’s view of the training regimen has shifted since two months ago, when a report by the American-Statesman and KVUE-TV raised questions about the academy’s training philosophy and compared Austin’s academy to others nationally."

"A 12-year-old Ohio boy who operates his own lawn mowing business has gained more customers after one neighbor called the police on him for mowing part of her yard."

"Maple Heights resident Lucille Holt had employed 12-year-old Reginald Fields, who owns Mr. Reggie's Lawn Cutting Service, to mow her lawn on Saturday, she told ABC Cleveland affiliate WEWS."

"Reginald's cousins often help him work, and one of the neighbors called the police on them after the group of kids accidentally cut part of their grass, Holt said in a Facebook video she posted on Saturday. "They called the police to tell the police that the kids was cutting their grass," Holt said. "Who does that?"

"The patch of grass the neighbors were apparently referring to sits between Holt's home and theirs. There is no fence there to mark where the property begins and ends. "I guess I have a line there, that’s not part of my yard," Holt said. The video showed a police car parked across the street from Holt's home and two neighbors sweeping grass debris off their driveway. Holt said that, in the past, neighbors have called the police when her kids were throwing snow balls and another time when her son "was crying 'cause he was getting a whoppin'."

Called law enforcement because someone had cut the grass? LOL. Give me a break.

"You called the police cause the kids [are] out here cutting the grass, and they cut the grass that wasn’t part of our grass?" Holt said. "I don’t know what part is my grass and what part is your grass."

Who the hell cares? LOL. Imagine police having to waste time and effort dealing with this crap.

"She continued, "They should be glad these kids aren't out there breaking their car windows out," Holt said. "They should be glad the kids [aren't] out here stealing their cars."

"Holt then asks one of the boys how old he is. When he responds that he is 9 and went to school with one of the neighbors, she praises him for being productive. "I'm so glad [you're] out here doing something positive, she said."

"An officer then comes to talk to Holt, asking her if they can "go inside around the corner so you guys don't have to look at each other while I talk to you." When Holt asks why, the officer says, "'Cause I don't want it to turn into anything. I'm trying to make it easy on everybody."

Imagine being a cop dealing with this nonsense. Total waste of law enforcement time, effort, resources, etc..

"The Maple Heights Police Department did not immediately respond to ABC News' request for comment. WEWS reached out to the neighbors, who said they saw the video but declined to comment further. Holt ended the video saying she was "so angry right now that these babies [are] going through this -- getting the police called on them 'cause they're cutting grass." Reginald didn't realize he was cutting the neighbor's grass, he told WEWS. "They said I was cutting their grass," he said. "I didn't know it!"

"Ever since the incident, which has been viewed more than 150,000 times on Facebook as of Friday, Reginald has been getting more business calls than ever from all over the city, he said. "People are inboxing me like, 'How can I get in touch with this children? Where are they at? I got property I want these kids to cut,'" Holt said. Reginald told the local station that he planned on saving the money he made to buy new equipment and grow his business."

This is a young black kid well on his way to making quite a life for himself and those around him.

"On Friday, Holt posted video of Reginald receiving a new lawn mower and leaf blower from members of the community who saw her video."

"A Florida teenager who climbed into a tree to escape an aggressive alligator while swimming in a creek was rescued by a deputy who shot the giant reptile with a semi-automatic rifle. Jordan Broderick had been hanging in the tree for a half-hour on Friday when Deputy Mitch Blackmon arrived at the creek in Astor, Florida. The 15-year-old girl climbed into the tree after encountering the gator while rafting, according to an incident report released on Monday."

"My daughter is stuck in a fricking tree and there are gators surrounding her. We can't get her out. She's just 15!" the girl's mother shouted to a dispatcher in a 911 call. "Oh my God. Please hurry! Please hurry!" The girl's mother, whose name was redacted from the 911 call, told a dispatcher that the family had been visiting the area to swim and camp. When told by the dispatcher that it could take as long as 20 minutes for a marine unit to get to the area, the mother said, "Oh my god! My daughter is going to be f------ dead!"

"But Blackmon arrived at the creek before the marine unit and he heard Broderick screaming from the tree. The alligator was hissing and wasn't scared off by the deputy's presence, according to the report. The almost 11-foot-long gator started moving toward Blackmon so he fired at it with the rifle, the report said."

Reportedly, the famed AR-15, 'assault' weapon of choice for so many gun owners in this country. :)

"Lake County Sheriff's Office spokesman Sgt. Fred Jones says the gator sank back into the water and didn't re-emerge. Broderick wasn't injured."

Think it's easy being a police officer? Consider the following. Precisely, why educational standards, training, and pay need to be substantially increased. Policing turned into a profession. CBS News reports:

"A veteran police officer said he froze in a Las Vegas hotel hallway while a gunman fired on an outdoor concert crowd in the deadliest mass shooting in the nation's modern history. Officer Cordell Hendrex's actions are prompting a review of whether lives could have been saved if officers had acted faster to stop the shooting."

Not everyone is qualified to be an officer. Selection process needs to be stiffened. Yet, even the very best, most qualified don't know how they'll react until the moment arrives.

"Three police tactics experts said they understood Hendrex hesitating as he led a trainee and three Mandalay Bay hotel security guards toward the sound of rapid gunfire Oct. 1. "We teach officers to respond directly to the active killing. Every second that it continues to go on, more lives are at risk," said J. Pete Blair, a criminal justice professor and director of the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training center at Texas State University. "But we don't expect them to take unnecessary risks."

That's right. Not good enough, however. It's the 'shoot first ask questions later' police mentality that needs to immediately change.

"Carla Alston, spokeswoman for Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo, issued a statement last week saying that every officer's actions during the massacre were being evaluated by the department."

"Hendrex acknowledged being "terrified with fear" in a written police report submitted Oct. 7 and made public May 23 by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department under court order. "I froze right there in the middle of the hall for how long I can't say," he wrote."

Courage is not the absence of paralyzing fear. It's acting despite and in spite of that fear. There are very few survivors of those who win the Congressional Medal of Honor on the battlefield. Those that have readily admit that fear.

"Hendrex, a nearly 10-year department veteran and field training officer, is first seen teaching rookie Officer Elif Varsin to write trespassing tickets for two women in a Mandalay Bay hotel security office. Amid radio reports of ongoing shooting and "multiple casualties," Hendrex, Varsin and three Mandalay Bay security officers run to an elevator talking about a shooter on the 32nd floor. They get off on the 31st floor. The reason has not been explained. In the footage, Hendrex leads Varsin and the security guards, each with handguns drawn, out of the elevator and down a 31st floor hallway. They hear the first of at least five separate volleys of rapid gunfire during a three-minute span. "Holy s---. That's rapid fire," Hendrex says. The group stops. "I'm inside the Mandalay Bay on the 31st floor, we can hear it above us," Hendrex says over his police radio. "Just be advised it is automatic fire, fully automatic fire from an elevated position," a radio voice says. "Take cover."

At the same time, officers must act as soon as they can to confront the threat. Quite a balancing act. At a time of enormous stress, confusion, chaos.

"Varsin's video shows the group in the 31st floor hallway for about five minutes before Hendrex leads them halfway up a stairwell to the 32nd floor. They remain there for at least 15 minutes, when the video clip ends.

"I remember thinking that I had myself, my day 2 trainee and three security managers," Hendrex later wrote. "Between the 5 of us only I and Officer Varsin were wearing body armor and all of us were armed with a handgun each."

"The shooting stopped and all I could think was to stop the shooter or shooters from ... escaping," he said."

What would you do? Utter chaos. Indiscriminate shooting. Ubiquitous carnage. Unless you have a clear target, returning fire with a handgun could result in the death of innocent people. Quite possibly, Hendrex may have falsely blamed intense fear he was experiencing for not acting when there may have been nothing he could have reasonably done under the circumstances.

"It is not clear if Hendrex reached the 32nd floor stairwell door near the shooter's room that had been sealed shut. On the 32nd floor, a hotel security guard had been wounded in the leg by gunshots fired through the door into the hallway where he had discovered the obstruction. Body-camera video released May 2 shows teams of officers sometime later moving carefully from different locations, checking rooms on floors 29, 30 and 31 before blasting through the door to Paddock's suite. That was about 80 minutes after Paddock started shooting, and more than an hour after gunfire ended."

Officers may in fact have done the very best they could under the circumstances. Advantage clearly belonged to the perpetrator.

"Inside, police found Paddock dead, windows broken and 23 rifles strewn about. Fourteen of the rifles were fitted with "bump stock" devices to allow rapid-fire shooting similar to that of automatic weapons. Questions were raised amid changing timelines from Las Vegas police and the FBI in the days after the shooting about why police didn't get to Paddock sooner. Lombardo said at that time he was "absolutely offended" by suggestions that police bungled the response."

Question to be asked is where were hotel staff? Had to have taken the perpetrator quite some time to haul all those weapons and ammunition into the room. Cameras are ubiquitous in hallways, front lobby, parking lots, etc.. Didn't housekeeping go into the room to clean it?

"Lombardo, who has since been re-elected head of the police department, ordered officers and employees not to comment about what he calls an ongoing investigation. The FBI in Las Vegas has repeatedly declined to comment. The sheriff has said he expects a final report to be issued by August. Hendrex and Varsin did not respond to email messages from The Associated Press, and Steve Grammas, head of the police union, declined to comment."

Why would you expect any comment until the investigation is over and reports are out?

"Eugene O'Donnell, a former New York police officer who teaches at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York, called for "an honest conversation about the need for police to transform on a dime from peacekeepers to military commandos." "We have to be realistic," O'Donnell said. "Police officers are civilians with guns. The notion that they can spring into action and take on a mass murderer who is running up the body count is probably something you can't ask."

That's right. Nor should we want or expect that. Forget? Militarization of police has led to an enormous amount of murders of innocent unarmed civilians.

"Thor Eells, executive director of the National Tactical Officers Association, viewed the body-camera video at the request of AP. He said no amount of tactical training and crisis conditioning, short of actual combat experience, can overcome a natural reaction to pause in the face of danger. "This is not a training issue," Eells said. "You can simulate an active shooter scenario, but it's not the same as when real bullets are flying."

One walks through metal detectors in an increasing number of venues. May be time to do the same in high-rise buildings and other locations.

Rather than accept the advice of two surveyor companies, the Precinct 3 Commissioner, the Appraisal District, the Tax Office, and even the Sheriff himself, you've inexplicably chosen to follow the advice of property owner Johnny Greene, -- who conveniently happens to be reportedly in the oil industry.

Question to be asked. Could you have received any 'consideration' in return, -- up to and including a bribe? Only way to know for sure is for the District Attorney to conduct a criminal investigation. Apparently, there has been none. If not, why not?

Equally pointedly, why hasn't Llano County Deputy Leroy Rodriguez, Badge #764 been held criminally accountable for egregious abuse of power involving denial of property rights to this Kingsland property owner? To say nothing of consequent resultant physical damage done to a motor home on that property.

Our achingly useless, worthless, gutless Sheriff has ignored an email vis a vis the damage this jackbooted thug is responsible for. Interestingly, his fellow officers believe him to be an idiot. Yet, the Sheriff continued to defend this piece of human excrement until he realized this entire fiasco would not be swept under the carpet.

Rodriguez is indeed an idiot. Would you believe this piece of crap ordered the motor home to be moved on to an unmarked unused Llano County road? That motor home has indeed been moved back to where it was parked before Rodriguez forced it to be moved. Why hasn't the County paid for the cost of moving it back? To say nothing of the damage.

Equally pointedly, why is it the County has allowed Theresa Ahrens to park and live in her tiny cottage on that very same road? Why hasn't she been evicted by the County? Why was she assessed taxes on an adjacent improvement she doesn't own?

Why is it, Counselor, Johnny Greene is paying for the attorney retained by Ms. Ahrens? Is Greene attempting to make this all go away by bribery? Greene has also informed Berardi he is going to sue. For what? Has Greene lost his mind?

What about Wells who installed a $4500 septic system on a lot turns out he does not own as a result of Greene, an outrageously inept County, to say nothing of the Llano County Attorney who remains equally determinedly clueless?

How about Bolen who hasn't a pot to piss in, but was nonetheless f--ked over by Greene to say nothing of an egregiously inept County, to say nothing of you and your goddamned equally incompetent office?

Wake up, Sheriff. Again, where is dashcam video of the killing of Jeffrey Gray Wise, 52, of Austin by DPS and the Llano County Sheriff's Office? One hundred fifteen weeks, now. A goddamned disgrace. Why are you still sitting on this information? What are you hiding, Sheriff? What is the identity of the officers who killed Wise? Too gutless to release this information to the public that pays your salary and that of your goons? Reportedly, there were three officers involved in the shooting.

Who are they, Sheriff? Their past history? An ongoing investigation remains a lame bullshit excuse. How can you and your goons be trusted when you refuse to disclose information? One hundred fifteen weeks. Especially, your egregious failure to disclose the identity of the officers who pulled the trigger. To cover your sorry ass, Sheriff? Those of your thugs? "At 7:23 p.m. Saturday night, 27-year-old Jacqueline Benitez-Quintana was driving in western Bastrop County when she was pulled over by a sheriff’s corporal for failing to use her blinker while changing lanes. When the officer, Brandon Stark, learned she was driving without a license, he arrested her. Nine minutes later, Eugenio Orozco, 42, was pulled over in the same area by a sheriff’s deputy for having an obscured license plate. When the deputy asked Orozco for his driver’s license, Orozco instead handed over a Mexican ID card. Driving without a license is a misdemeanor that can land a motorist in jail. But the officer then learned that Orozco did in fact have a valid driver’s license. He arrested Orozco anyway for a different misdemeanor: failure to display a license upon the request of a peace officer."

"They were among 24 people arrested Saturday night in a heavily Hispanic part of Bastrop County during a “zero tolerance” traffic enforcement operation ordered by Bastrop County Sheriff Maurice Cook. All but one of those arrested had Hispanic surnames. Thirteen, including Benitez-Quintana and Orozco, were picked up from the county jail by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for deportation proceedings. At least seven had already been deported by Tuesday, according to Mexico’s consul for Austin."

Raw nazism by the jackbooted bastards in blue. In cahoots with federal jackbooted nazi storm troopers. Goes well beyond routine policing.

"For Carlos González Gutiérrez, the Mexican consul, the operation was an alarming escalation in the coordination between local and federal policing on immigration. “There was clearly a special operation on the border between Bastrop and Travis, and there was clearly a decision not to cite and release the offenders of these traffic violations in case the officer suspected that they were undocumented,” González said. “We are very concerned that this takes to a new level the collaboration between police and immigration authorities.”

"Sheriff Maurice Cook said that last weekend’s “zero tolerance” traffic enforcement operation in heavily Hispanic western Bastrop County — which led to 24 people being arrested and 13 seized for deportation proceedings — was prompted by a meeting he had with civic leaders who had asked for increased police presence in the area."

"Cook said Wednesday that he could not remember the names of the leaders he met with or their group. But members of the group, Bastrop Interfaith, remembered their meeting with Cook and told the American-Statesman on Thursday that they intended to send a different message: “the importance of building trust between the community and law enforcement, including immigrant communities.” “We are outraged that after our conversation with Sheriff Cook about these matters, his department blatantly targeted immigrants and Hispanics,” the group said in a statement. “Sheriff Cook, by his actions has severely damaged the relationship between law enforcement and the community.”

Sadly, comes at a time when, to say the least, faith and trust in law enforcement remains in severe jeopardy.

"The operation also drew criticism from state Rep. Eddie Rodriguez, D-Austin, who said Thursday that he is “deeply disturbed.” “This operation may well be exactly the kind of law enforcement activity that I feared would occur under SB 4. The limited facts available suggest a clear-cut case of racial profiling and organized immigration enforcement in cooperation with federal authorities,” Rodriguez, who is policy chair for the Mexican American Legislative Caucus, said in a statement. “The BCSO may have caused long-term damage to its relationship with the community and seriously threatened public safety in a single evening.”

No foreign power, no terrorist organization, not even the criminal element presents a greater threat to life, liberty, all civil and constitutional rights and liberties than the jackbooted bastards in blue. ... "A Georgia police officer who fatally shot a black man who was running away from him was fired and jailed on charges of voluntary manslaughter and violating his oath of office, just one week after alerting a dispatcher to his frantic pursuit. Police Officer Zechariah Presley surrendered Wednesday to the Camden County Sheriff's Office after the Georgia Bureau of Investigation obtained warrants for his arrest. A GBI statement says Presley, who is white, was following a vehicle that stopped at an intersection on June 21 when the driver and passenger ran. Presley pursued the driver, later identified as Anthony Marcel Green. "Got one running! Got two running!" Presley shouted over police radio. What happened next was recorded on Presley's body camera."

Jones claimed Presley had harassed him numerous times and after he complained, Presley parked in front of his house to menace him. WTLA obtained the written complaint Jones made against Presley, in which he wrote, "I feel deeply that my life may be taken away." "He's gonna get exactly what he deserved," Jones said of Presley. "A white Georgia police officer accused of shooting a fleeing black man stalked and hunted Anthony Green like an animal, a lawyer for the man's family said at a news conference Friday. Attorney Malik Shabazz also said the manslaughter charge filed against Kingsland Police Officer Zechariah Presley is highly unusual in a police shooting - and he praised authorities for taking swift action. "It is a rare occurrence in the United States of America where a police officer is charged with killing anyone, particularly an African-American man," said Shabazz, who is president of Black Lawyers for Justice and also representing Green's family. "That shows how strong the evidence must be."

Antwon Rose's mother is crying while his killer is free."

"Officer Michael Rosfeld of the East Pittsburgh Police Department shot and killed 17-year-old Antwon Rose in the borough of East Pittsburgh on the night of June 19, after the teen and two others were pulled over in a car believed to have been connected to a drive-by shooting earlier that night in the nearby borough of North Braddock. Rose was struck three times from behind, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner, after he and another passenger fled on foot from Rosfeld. The medical examiner has ruled Rose's death a homicide. Rosfeld was arraigned on one count of criminal homicide Wednesday morning and subsequently released from jail on $250,000 unsecured bond."

"Protests condemning Rose's killing have consumed the roadways and public spaces in and around downtown Pittsburgh in the days after the shooting. Although demonstrators hailed the charge filed against Rosfeld Wednesday, they were angry that he was allowed to be released from custody."

"Detectives determined that Zaijuan Hester, 17, was the individual who fired the .40-caliber pistol from the Chevrolet Cruze in the drive-by shooting that preceded Rose's killing. Hester was arrested and charged Wednesday morning for aggravated assault, criminal homicide, receiving stolen property and firearm charges, according to WTAE. He is being held at the Shuman Juvenile Detention Center. Rose was not armed when he was shot. But an empty gun magazine was discovered in his right-front pocket that fit the 9 mm pistol found in the Chevrolet Cruze, according to the affidavit. "Antwon didn't do anything in North Braddock other than be in that vehicle," Zappala told reporters Wednesday. "Antwon did not fire a gun at all ... the 9 mm was never discharged."

"Rosfeld, 30, had been on the job as an East Pittsburgh police officer for three weeks and was formally sworn in just hours before the deadly shooting happened. He has been placed on unpaid leave since the incident, and the Allegheny County Police Department is leading the investigation. Pat Thomassey, an attorney for Rosfeld, told ABC News in an interview Wednesday that he's not surprised by the charge but his client is "devastated" by what happened and is seeking counseling. Thomassey said the officer had reasonable belief that the individuals in the car had been involved in a serious crime, citing the vehicle's busted windows, so he fired his gun when the suspects fled."

"A Pennsylvania police officer is seen on video using a stun gun on a man as he's sitting on a curb. Lancaster police says officers were called around 10 a.m. Thursday and told a man was confronting people with a bat.

"Video posted to Facebook captured Officer Philip Bernot telling 27-year-old Sean Williams to sit on a sidewalk and stick his legs out. Bernot then uses his stun gun on Williams while the man is sitting, facing away from the officer."

"Police told Lancaster Online another officer, Shannon Mazzante, arrived on the scene just after 10 a.m. and repeatedly told Williams to sit down on the sidewalk, but Williams didn't comply. Bernot then arrived to assist Williams. Williams is seen sitting on the curb as the video begins. Police said Bernot warned Williams that if he continued to refuse commands, the Taser would be used on him, according to Lancaster Online. Williams appears to move his legs closer to his body before he is Tased. Williams tells WGAL-TV he followed all directions and doesn't know why he was shocked."

"The record is on the dash-cam footage: It’s nighttime. I step out of my car, bewildered at being pulled over and surrounded by police vehicles in the college town I’ve lived in for years. I hold my hands up high, shocked to see several guns pointed at me. It turns out a fellow student had called the police to report that someone was trying to steal a car. That someone was me. The car was my own. I had a key."

“I don’t know if I’m, like, racial profiling,” the woman had told the 911 dispatcher. To her and to the police, I was a black man in a hoodie. After the cops arrived, after they tackled me, and after they determined that the car was, indeed, my own, they charged me anyway.

"Resisting arrest, they said. One cop joked to another that I “should feel lucky” he didn’t shoot me."

When he tried to pick it up, Portland State University Police officers shot and killed him."

"This isn't the first time tensions have risen at the university over armed campus safety officers. Students have been strongly opposed since the policy began in 2015. One protester said she feared that it was only a matter of time before someone got killed. CBS News correspondent David Begnaud reports the incident occurred Friday after a fight started to escalate outside a sports bar. According to witnesses, the 45-year-old Washington, who is seen in cellphone video carrying a gun on his right hip, tried to intervene, but fell during the scuffle. Washington's gun apparently fell from its holster. Witnesses said campus police opened fire when he tried to pick it up."

"Washington was a U.S. Navy veteran who worked for the post office. Police told reporters he had a concealed carry permit for his handgun. "He was a veteran who fought for our country," said Mohammed Tuffa, who says he was involved in the fight. He said police didn't need to use deadly force. "Pepper spray could have broken everybody out. Everybody would have been on the ground crying." The two officers involved, Shawn McKenzie and James Dewey, have been placed on administrative leave."

Why weren't they immediately arrested, jailed? Why special treatment not accorded anyone else?

"Attending Sunday's vigil, Jo Ann Hardesty told CBS News, "Community members and staff and faculty were very, very concerned about arming the police." Hardesty said many people here have been speaking out against arming campus security officers ever since it began three years ago. "We knew then that somebody would die, and here we are. I had to be here because we knew it would happen – we just didn't know when." The university said this is the first officer-involved shooting for its campus police force. They promise a full evaluation of their policies and procedures, as Portland's Police Department investigates the incident."

He acknowledged spinning public statements; it is what people in those positions do. But knowingly spreading lies — that he could not stomach, he told Yuccas. So he quit, citing “false” and “misleading” statements made by Attorney General Jeff Sessions and ICE acting director Thomas D. Homan."

"His resignation in March made headlines. And then Schwab essentially went quiet before finally sitting down with CBS."

"About 15 minutes into the interview Wednesday in San Jose, Schwab and the others heard knocks that quickly grew louder. Schwab’s husband went downstairs to check who it was. Schwab went down to talk to them, according to Yuccas. “We hear Mr. Schwab ask three times, ‘What is this about?’ … They will not answer his questions. Homan, the acting ICE director, called Schaaf’s actions “irresponsible” and said in a Feb. 27 statement that 864 “criminal aliens and public safety threats remain at large.” He said that he believed “some of them” had managed to avoid arrest after being tipped off by Schaaf."

"Schwab, who helped craft that statement, said he felt uncomfortable with the agency’s claim that more than 800 “criminal aliens” escaped capture. He told CBS that the statement was a “flat-out lie” and had told media outlets that ICE arrested 232 suspected undocumented immigrants — a higher number than what federal authorities had expected. Schwab resigned less than two weeks after the Feb. 25 raid, telling the San Francisco Chronicle at the time he quit because he “didn’t want to perpetuate misleading facts.”

"ICE officials said in March that Schwab’s statements to media outlets about ICE arrests in California were inaccurate. Three months later, and after the visit to his home, on camera, by DHS agents, Schwab told CBS that he was “completely shocked” the agents had showed up at his doorstep unannounced. “Why, three months later, are we doing this?” he told CBS News. He added: “And this is why people won’t come out and speak against the government.”

Think treatment of immigrant children detained by the Trump nazi and his henchmen hasn't been appalling? CBS News reports:

"Five immigrant children filed a federal complaint in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles Friday alleging that the government is "causing grave harm to children" by detaining them for long periods of time in overly restrictive conditions and forcing them to take psychotropic medication, in violation of the law. The lawsuit seeks class action status, and asks the court to block the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) from placing children in detention. The five children say they have endured physical and emotional abuse while detained. The children are represented by the National Center for Youth Law (NCYL) and the Center for Human Rights and Constitutional Law, the organizations that worked on Flores v Reno, the 1997 Supreme Court case which created national standards for holding immigrant children in custody."

"The children named in the lawsuit have been in federal custody for up to a year and a half, been administered psychotropic medications without consent, and been denied release to family members for manufactured reasons or without any reason provided at all, and with no opportunity to even review, much less appeal, the government's decisions," read a statement by the NCYL."

"Among the children who are plaintiffs is a 16-year-old girl from Honduras who has been detained for 11 months. The Office of Refugee Resettlement allegedly refuses to release her to her sister unless she can pay $500 a month for the girl's medication and move to a home with a separate room for the girl. Another plaintiff is a 12-year-old boy who has also allegedly been forced to take psychotropic drugs and and has no legal counsel to assist him with regard to the drugs or his detention. Like the girl, the boy also has a sister in the U.S. who can care for him. A 17-year-old plaintiff who has been detained for more than a year claims he has been repeatedly assaulted by ORR staff. "One time he had to wash pepper spray out of his eyes with toilet water," National Center for Youth Law spokesperson Lewis Cohen said on a conference call with reporters Friday. Another 17-year-old says she has been placed on numerous psychotropic medications for which ORR has not received the consent of her grandfather, who is her closest U.S. relative. A 13-year-old plaintiff says he has suffered physical abuse at the hands of older youths in the facility where he's held."

How many kids have yet to be returned despite a judge's recent order? How many may never be once their parents are quickly deported?

"The backlog of pending applications for immigrants legally in the country attempting to become U.S. citizens has “skyrocketed” under President Donald Trump, according to a new report from an immigrant rights organization. There were nearly 730,000 pending naturalization applications as of the end of last year, a more than 87 percent increase since 2015 under President Barack Obama, according to the new report from the National Partnership for New Americans. “The Trump admin has built a second wall that prevents legal immigrants in the U.S. from becoming voting U.S. citizens,” Joshua Hoyt, executive director of the National Partnership for New Americans, told NBC News. He said the backlog at the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services means current processing rates have reached as high as 20 months. Last year, over 925,000 people applied for U.S. citizenship, according to the report."

“They may be waiting for as much of 20 months after submitting a 21-page application, paid the $730 fee, submitted their fingerprints for a security a check and then sat and waited to take an exam,” he said. The report also found that certain states saw “enormous spikes” in denials of citizenship applications in the last quarter, noting changes in Alabama, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico, Pennsylvania and Utah. From Oct. 1 2017 to the end of December, the backlog increased in at least 19 states and territories, including Alabama, Colorado, Washington D.C., Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin, according to the report. The states with the largest increase in pending applications over the last fiscal year included Utah with an increase of more than 53 percent, Texas with an increase of over 50 percent and Washington with over 46 percent, according to the report."

"The backlog was denying potential citizens their right to vote, and also left some at risk for potential deportation under Trump's policies while their applications are pending, said Gutiérrez. "The rules have changed, legal permanent residency does not protect you from deportation under Donald Trump," he said. Angelica Salas, executive director of immigrant advocacy group the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA), echoed the sentiment. "More and more every day you have a situation in which legal permanent residents, even for minor violations decades old, are being visited by ICE," she said."

"The ruling in the Damus case stands for the principle that the government cannot apply a blanket policy of detaining asylum seekers for the purpose of deterring people from coming into the United States to seek asylum," said ACLU deputy legal director Cecillia Wang. Typically, asylum-seekers must pass a "credible fear" interview to convince authorities that they face a threat of persecution at home. If they pass, they are usually eligible for release pending a hearing, unless they are considered a flight risk or a danger to the public. At least, that is how it worked during the Obama administration."

"But according to the ACLU lawsuit, everything changed under the Trump administration. Asylum-seekers in five ICE field offices in Detroit, El Paso, Los Angeles, Newark and Philadelphia are being detained with no hope of being released. "We had a clear record, as the court noted, showing that in these five ICE field offices there really was a very clear pattern in what previously resulted in release of asylum seekers at a rate of ninety percent based on individualized consideration really dwindled down to near zero," Wang said."

"As a result, Judge Boasberg ordered the government to conduct case-by-case reviews of more than a thousand other asylum-seekers who have been denied release by those five ICE field offices."

"To be clear, in finding that injunctive relief is warranted in this case, this Court is simply ordering that Defendants do what they already admit is required– follow the ICE Directive when adjudicating asylum-seekers' detention. The Directive provides a framework of minimum protections for those claiming refugee status, and, as Defendants acknowledge, it is binding on the Government. To mandate that ICE provide these baseline procedures to those entering our country – individuals who have often fled violence and persecution to seek safety on our shores – is no great judicial leap," Judge Boasberg concluded."

But in his first in-depth interview since the FBI raided his office and homes in April, Cohen strongly signaled his willingness to cooperate with special counsel Robert Mueller and federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York -- even if that puts President Trump in jeopardy. “My wife, my daughter and my son have my first loyalty and always will,” Cohen told me. “I put family and country first.” We spoke for 45 minutes Saturday evening at a Manhattan hotel, where Cohen has been staying for the past several months. And during that time, the question of whether Cohen might flip on the president has been the subject of intense speculation."

"Even the president weighed in, tweeting in April that “most people will flip if the government lets them out of trouble, even if it means lying or making up stories. Sorry, I don’t see Michael doing that.” He described Cohen as a “fine person with a wonderful family.” But Cohen did not praise the president during our conversation -- and pointedly disagreed with Trump’s criticism of the federal investigations."

"Cohen recently retained Petrillo, a highly regarded former federal prosecutor who once led the criminal division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Manhattan -- the very same office currently conducting the criminal investigation of Cohen."

Most convenient, isn't it? Shrewd, as well. Think Mueller and the Manhattan U.S. Attorney aren't working in conjunction?

"Petrillo is expected to take over as Cohen’s lead counsel in the coming days. And Cohen makes clear that his decision about whether to cooperate will be based not on any previous loyalty to Trump -- but on Petrillo’s legal advice. Once Petrillo fully assumes his role, a joint defense agreement Cohen shared with the president, which allowed their lawyers to share information and documents with each other, will come to an end, ABC News has learned. At that point, the legal interests of the president of the United States and his longtime personal attorney could quickly become adversarial."

Precisely, why frightened Republicans are so increasingly, desperately anxious for Mueller and others to wind up their investigations.

"When I asked Cohen how he might respond if the president or his legal team come after him -- to try and discredit him and the work he did for Mr. Trump over the last decade -- he sat up straight. His voice gained strength. “I will not be a punching bag as part of anyone’s defense strategy,” he said emphatically. “I am not a villain of this story, and I will not allow others to try to depict me that way.” Prosecutors in New York’s Southern District are investigating Cohen for alleged violations of election law and possible financial crimes associated with his personal business dealings. He has not been charged with any crime. But on the advice of his attorney, Cohen declined to address specific questions about matters currently under investigation."

Mueller and other investigators have been so tight with information, free of leaks, hard to know for sure precisely what they think, what they have, what they intend to ultimately do with whatever it is they have.

“I respect the prosecutors. I respect the process,” Cohen said. “I would not do or say anything that might be perceived as interfering with their professional review of the evidence and the facts.”

"One subject the prosecutors are surely exploring: that $130,000 payment Cohen made to adult-film star Stephanie Clifford, aka Stormy Daniels, less than two weeks before the 2016 election, in exchange for her silence –- a possible violation of campaign finance law. I asked Cohen if the president directed him to make that payment or promised to reimburse him. In the past, Cohen has said that he acted on his own initiative. Not this time. “I want to answer. One day I will answer,” he said. “But for now, I can’t comment further on advice of my counsel.”

I respect the FBI as an institution, as well as their agents,” Cohen told me. “When they searched my hotel room and my home, it was obviously upsetting to me and my family. Stephanopoulos said that Cohen, who has not been charged in connection with either probe, came across “as his own man” during the interview and said he will “not be a punching bag” if Trump’s team tries to discredit him as part of a legal strategy."

He was also accused by prosecutors of misusing his charity’s donor list for political purposes."

"Defiant but somber, Mr. Greitens, who was voted into office in 2016, insisted that he had committed no crimes or “any offense worthy of this treatment.” He described “legal harassment of colleagues, friends and campaign workers” and said “it’s clear that for the forces that oppose us that there is no end in sight.” “This ordeal has been designed to cause an incredible amount of strain on my family,” Mr. Greitens said. Nestlé, which bottles the water under its Arrowhead brand, has 60 days to decide whether to accept the terms of the offer, the AP says."

"As NPR's Bill Chappell reported in December, Nestlé, a division of the Swiss food company, says it took an average of 62.6 million gallons of water from the San Bernardino spring each year from 1947 to 2015, but a two-year investigation by California's State Water Board found that it lacked legal permits for much of that water."

"The government was separating migrant parents from their kids for months prior to the official introduction of zero tolerance, running what a U.S. official called a "pilot program" for widespread prosecutions in Texas, but apparently did not create a clear system for parents to track or reunite with their kids. Officials have said that at least 2,342 children were separated from their parents after being apprehended crossing the border unlawfully since May 5, when the Trump administration's "zero tolerance" policy towards migrants went into effect. But numbers provided to NBC News by the Department of Homeland Security show that another 1,768 were separated from their parents between October 2016 and February 2018, bringing the total number of separated kids to more than 4,100."

"New building didn't appear to begin in earnest until April this year, around the time Mr. Kim shook hands with South Korean President Moon Jae-in in a landmark summit meeting at the inter-Korean border, according to a series of satellite images. "The satellite photos from San Francisco-based Planet Labs Inc. were analyzed by researchers at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies, WSJ reports. Unlike liquid-fuel rockets, which must be painstakingly fueled prior to launch, solid-fuel missiles can be deployed almost at a moment's notice – making them less vulnerable to a preemptive strike and therefore far more destabilizing."

"Kennedy, who announced he would retire as an associate justice on the high court at the end of July, has served for more than three decades after his appointment by President Ronald Reagan in 1987. He has sometimes, though not always, been a moderate voice on the bench, and one that has frequently been the tie-breaker on many decisions."

Not so, this last year. Nearly all his rulings have been in goose step with the four other current Republican nazis on the Court.

"Since her husband took office Melania Trump has earned six figures from an unusual deal with a photo agency in which major media organizations have indirectly paid the Trump family despite a requirement that the photos be used only in positive coverage."

"President Donald Trump's most recent financial disclosure reveals that in 2017 the first lady earned at least $100,000 from Getty Images for the use of any of a series of 187 photos of the first family shot between 2010 and 2016 by Belgian photographer Regine Mahaux. It's not unheard of for celebrities to earn royalties from photos of themselves, but it's very unusual for the wife of a currently serving elected official. More problematic for the many news organizations that have published or broadcast the images, however, is that Getty's licensing agreement stipulates the pictures can be used in "positive stories only."

"According to the revenue statement in President Trump's May financial disclosure, Melania Trump earned between $100,000 and $1,000,000 in photo royalties in 2017 from the Getty deal. Federal officials are only required to give an income range in their filings, and both Getty and the White House declined requests to provide more precise figures or list the places the images had appeared. But NBC News found at least a dozen organizations that had paid to use Mahaux's restricted images of the Trumps in 2017, resulting in indirect payment to the first family. Collins said she is not comfortable with everyone on Trump's list of conservative names and stressed her preferences in their meeting. "The President really was soliciting my views on the type of nominee that I was looking for," Collins said. "I emphasized that I wanted a nominee who would respect precedent, a fundamental tenet of our judicial system."

"I hope the other side realizes that they better just take it easy," the president said. should not have the ability to shut down ftp servers on four Liberty In
Peril websites, making upload impossible. -- Simply, because they don't
want the truth of their criminal activity reported to the public.

Should this site not be kept up, running, and fully operational, the
libertyinperil.com domain will be quickly moved to a different host
despite cost and hassle. No more bullsh-t. Criminal complaints will be

Hopefully, now, I can finally get back to the business of this

The pressure on Wells Fargo will continue unabated. Should they further
interfere with operation of this publication, it will simply provide

On 9-22-15, Kingsland Wells Fargo Store Manager Amanda Wright forced
closure of two accounts because for nearly three years this writer has
publicly accused her, her predecessor Lynn Massey, and the Wells Fargo
corporate management suite of engaging in criminal deceptive trade
practices, as well as pressuring, unduly interfering and/or bribing
webhosts to take these websites down.

Apparently, they have successfully managed to unduly influence and/or
bribe the federal Consumer Financial 'Protection' Bureau and Texas
Attorney General Consumer Protection Division as well. Forget? The bank
is considered too big to fail. Considers itself government.

For all practical purposes, that's perversely true. They have money and
resources to buy not only their human chattel, but their bought and paid
for government lackeys. Be interesting to see whether or not the U.S.
Attorney is untouchable, or sadly, similarly capable of being bought.

Immediately after closure of these accounts, the three operational Liberty
In Peril FTP servers were hacked. What that means is that while all three
sites remained operational and accessible to readers, new material could
not be uploaded. This continues to date.

Worse, 'free' accounts on all three 'free' webhosts conveniently no longer
provide technical control panel support. Clearly, they don't want to know
there are problems. Have managed, however, to find other ways to contact
webhost management and have done precisely that.

Will take a criminal investigation to determine who hacked the sites,
however. Most likely, Wells Fargo had a hand in it. Certainly, have the
resources. Highly, unlikely the Llano County Sheriff's Office was
involved. Hard to believe they would be that stupid. The Bank, however,

The effort to expose Wells Fargo egregious deceptive trade practices continues. Several years ago to determinedly apply renewed pressure on our truly worthless, egregiously self-serving Texas Attorney General, now Governor, an excoriating email was sent to the bastard. Copies of which were also passed on to both offending Wells Fargo officers. A copy was also sent to the Davis campaign and others at the time.

Voters did have a right to know as Attorney General, the GOP candidate for Governor apparently selectively investigated, or not, bona fide complaints filed by citizens against banks too big to fail. Possibly, Wells Fargo could have lined his pockets in some fashion. That has yet to be determined.

The bastard and his office, no matter what, failed to respond to the complaint originally snail mailed several years ago. This material, figuratively targeting Wells Fargo and the governor 'wannabe' now Governor, had been posted and can be found by scrolling all the way down and clicking on the links well below. ... Governor? Wells Fargo bribe you to look the other way?

Click here for a most interesting conversation between JP2 Linda Ballard and LCRA Communications Supervisor Mitch Hibbs who at the time was investigating a complaint made by the Henderson family against the 'judge.' The recording had been made by Hibbs and provided by Phyllis Henderson who had gotten it through an open records request. During the course of the recording you will hear the 'judge' make a terroristic threat against the Henderson family which the investigator laughingly shrugged off as a joke.

Seems former LCRA Ranger Lance Bilski, stepson of Llano County Sheriff Bill Blackburn, had been harassing the Henderson family regarding their tire business, Henderson Tire. Worse? There are unsubstantiated allegations, that although very much attached, Bilski may have indeed engaged in improprieties, that is, egregiously unprofessional conduct relevant to the Henderson complaint. All this had been covered in Newsletter Text V346.
