Liberty In Peril

The Llano Ledger

This publication has been in suspension since March 2003 for reasons explained on the Home Page.  Much has happened in the United States, as well as the rest of the world, since the last edition.  ... Sadly, most of it disturbing.  Much of it achingly heartbreaking.

Got guts? Tired of being lied to? Like an alternative source of information truly independent and free of government propaganda? Want this publication to continue? Send a donation to P.O. Box 151, Buchanan Dam, Tx. 78609.

Publisher's Note: This publication receives no financial support through advertising.  Although shaken down, looted, and abused by corrupt government, area businesses remain unwilling to stand up.  Locals are too gutless to donate financially, cowardly fearing retribution.  For this publication to survive, national readers need to contribute.  Liberty In Peril is, has been, and will always remain beholden to NO ONE. -- Precisely why there is no financial assistance.  ... From day of launch and certainly a no-brainer to this very day, firmly resolved to walk away first rather than compromise principle. -- To the chagrin of many and delight of few.    T.C. (5-7-13).

For new readers:  Fascism, nazism, national socialism defined as the pernicious blend of government, business, and religion. 'Justified' by perversion and bastardization of the latter.

Until funding and better arrangements can be made.

Interesting, isn't it? At time of writing, 9-27-13, there is the possibility of a government shutdown on October 1st.  The issue is Obamacare.  Both sides seem well-entrenched.  The Senate today voted to strip out House requirements Obamacare be defunded.  The bill goes back to the House.  Likely it will be returned to the Senate with changes.  Tea Party Republicans in the House appear to remain adamant all funding be stripped from Obamacare.

For once, they are right.  This law is forced.  Punitive.  First time in history all Americans are required to buy a product, -- insurance, by statute. ... Automotive liability insurance is different.  One isn't forced to purchase it if you don't own a vehicle.  This is in a universe of its own.  You're forced to buy it whether you have sufficient resources to pay for care, -- or, intend to refuse any and all medical treatment.  If you pay income taxes, you will be fined by IRS if you have no coverage.

Many will likely pay the fine, especially businesses.  Initially, the penalty will be much less than the cost of insurance. That will quickly change since there will likely be stiff resistance against compliance.  Businesses are already dumping employee coverage and conveniently leaving it up to the exchanges.  That may not ultimately work since employees may still not be able to afford coverage without government assistance.  In that case, corporations will again benefit off what amounts to corporate welfare.  Government will likely not tolerate this since it will drastically drive up government expense to execute and maintain this new law.  Too early to tell.

Worst of all?  This new law forces participants to provide insurance companies with all kinds of personal information not germane to healthcare.  Especially, now, that previous conditions cannot supposedly be used against policyholders. -- Information that is none of the government's business or that of its corporate masters.  ... Think your sex life, or lack thereof, is the business of government, its corporate masters, your corporate master, that is, the company you work for?  ... Whether or not you consume alcohol on occasion?  ... Other highly personal information and issues? Think all this won't be accessible to government goons, their corporate masters, anyone willing to hack information stored in a central location? Wake up.  Should you part with this information, you are a fool. It will be used against you at some point.  Count on it.  Sadly, that is precisely how things now work in our formerly great country.

Equally pointedly, this law will do absolutely nothing to rein in hopelessly greedy insurance providers, healthcare professionals, and anything associated with the healthcare industry.  Indeed, a cash cow.  Republicans are right about this law becoming a costly, failed boondoggle.  They are ultimately responsible for this, however, since they successfully did all in their power to prevent a truly universal single-payer healthcare system. Falsely, labeled it communistic.  Socialism.  ... For our hopelessly fascist friends, is the military socialistic?  How about the currently self-funded Post Office which is not only broke, but continues to offer extremely poor service?  Both are mandated by the United States Constitution.  Will you insist on privatizing each?  Willing to amend the Constitution to do so?

While the level of care in Canada, Europe, and elsewhere may not be as 'magnificent' as it is here, at least all in the aforementioned get some care.  Here, they don't, -- other than emergency care.  Anything more is extremely difficult to attain.  Often, impossible.  How many have died waiting for a transplant they couldn't afford?  Many with advanced diseases could have been treated far less expensively earlier in the course of illness had care been available.

Unless one is insured with a platinum plan such as members of Congress and the President, you're out of luck.  Plans on the exchanges reportedly do not provide such complete, full coverage unless one pays dearly for it.  ... So what else is new?  Bottom line?  You'll likely wind up paying a lot of money for forced coverage that does not cover 'services' you may wind up desperately needing, -- if you live long enough.

Clearly, the GOP does not care about the egregiously worsening healthcare problem in our formerly great country.
... As long as they and their loved ones get theirs.  They offer no viable alternative to Obamacare.  Myopically, insist on considering only immediate short-term cost, while foolishly ignoring long-term expense of advanced disease.  Most pointedly, taxpayers will continue to pay for at least some of the population in extremely advanced stages of illness.
Think when this becomes quickly unsustainable due to rapid aging of Baby Boomers care won't be rationed?
... Precisely, what Republicans so hypocritically accuse Canada and Europe of doing.  Who'd 'a 'thunk' it, no?

Regardless, the House should stonewall.  Refuse to fund the President's crowning 'achievement.'  While "Blamer Boehner" often talks out both sides his derriere, this time he's spot on.  The people do not want this law.  It does not support the best long-term interests of the public.  It will line the pockets of the healthcare industry, the insurance corporate management suite, shareholders, and ultimately people like Boehner.  ... Although the Speaker would never admit it, he is simply cowardly kowtowing to the most radically right in the House.  For once, amusingly, they finally got something right. Comically, however, for the wrong reasons.
