This publication has been in suspension since March 2003 for reasons fully explained on the Home Page.  Much has happened in the United States, as well as the rest of the world, since the last edition.  ... Sadly, most of it disturbing.  Until return to online publication, the format will remain as follows.    T.C. September 25, 2006

Publisher's Note: This publication receives no financial support through advertising.  Although shaken down, looted, and abused by corrupt government, area businesses remain unwilling to stand up.  Locals are too gutless to donate financially, cowardly fearing retribution.  For this publication to survive, national readers need to contribute.  Liberty In Peril is, has been, and will always remain beholden to NO ONE. -- Precisely why there is no financial assistance.  ... From day of launch and certainly a no-brainer to this very day, firmly resolved to walk away first rather than compromise principle. -- To the chagrin of many and delight of few.    T.C. (9-25-06).

Republicans Reach "Agreement" On Torture  September 24, 2006

Unquestionably, pending midterms are having a pernicious affect on Republican "thinking."  Seems Sen. McCain, Sen. Lindsay, and other top Republicans on the Senate Armed Forces Committee have capitulated and agreed to allow the "President" to do as he pleases regarding "interrogation" of "detainees."  ... After all, torture has been redefined by "Administration" attorneys.  Torture is no longer torture.  Abuse is no longer abuse.  -- No problem, right?

"Waterboarding" is no longer waterboarding.  -- The "interrogation" "technique" where "detainees" are strapped upside down on a board, lowered into a bucket and made to believe they're about to be drowned.  Beating, sleep deprivation for days, and being forced to stand for hours or in contorted positions chained to the floor are apparently permissible as well.

So, apparently, is hypothermia.  ... Deliberate chilling of prisoners, -- soaking them with ice water.  The proposed law will limit severity, not the practice of abuse and torture of "detainees."  Nazi America.  ... Think our enemies will not do the same or worse to our forces when captured?  Using their interpretation of the Geneva Conventions to "justify" doing so?

Our fascist "President" claims "interrogators" have received "useful" information from abusing and torturing prisoners.  Mr. Bush is a liar.  Seasoned interrogators have long stated little to no useful information is obtained abusing and torturing prisoners.  -- Torture victims tell "interrogators" what they want to hear, seldom the truth.

The "agreement" made by top Republicans will allow Mr. Bush to interpret the Geneva Conventions as he pleases.  The "President" will be asked to "publish" "interrogation " "techniques" in the Congressional Record so they may be subject to scrutiny by Congress and the public.  Already, the Bush "Administration" has claimed it is highly unlikely it will ever do so.  "National security."  ... Convenient, isn't it?  A Catch-22 unparalleled in recent American history.  Nazi America.

The "agreement" made by McCain, Lindsay, and others will apparently allow "detainees" to be denied access to "classified" "evidence" used against them during pending tribunals.  Also, "testimony" elicited during torture and abuse will, apparently, be introduced at "trial."  Kangaroo "justice" at its very worst.  Nazi America.

Apparently, Sen. McCain has "forgotten" what he endured as a North Vietnamese prisoner of war for approximately six years decades ago.  In addition, "interrogators" will apparently be protected against civil lawsuits by this legislation.

Worse, our enemies will be free to interpret the Geneva Conventions as they see fit.  Our troops will bear the brunt when captured.  This outrageous legislation is still to be voted on by the full Senate.  Hopefully, saner senators will rise to the occasion and kill it.  Sadly, highly unlikely.
-- Most have no courage, political or otherwise.

"President" Bush has disingenuously condemned the supposed "vagueness" of the "outrages upon personal dignity" phrase of the Geneva Conventions.  Sadly, the Nazi occupying the Oval Office knows precisely what it means.  As do most, if not, all civilized people.

Mr. Bush, however, disingenuously pretends not to know because he and his henchmen desperately wish to torture and abuse "detainees" without fear of war crimes prosecution.
-- Apparently, how the fascist occupying the Oval Office and his henchmen get their cookies off.  A heinous abuse of power that should have long since resulted in the "President's" impeachment, conviction, removal from office, and prosecution for war crimes.

Pope Inflames Controversy  September 20, 2006

This writer is no fan of the Pope.  Mr. Ratzinger, a former member of the Hitler Youth, has spent his priestly life embracing the Right and its perverse view of reality.  His recent comments and public reference to material from a medieval writer criticizing Islam, however, have set off a firestorm in the Moslem world.  Why?  For courageously and finally speaking truth and taking on an extremely timely issue?

Apparently, the substance of the Pope's comments revolved around one long-held Christian principle, -- violence in the name of God is unacceptable.  The Pope is right.  Moreover, this principle is front and center to all religion, including mainstream Islam.

Radical Islam, however, is indeed evil and inhuman.  Beheading hostages is atrocious.  So is killing innocent civilians.  The violent reaction of the Moslem world to the Pope's words is appalling.  ... Certainly, reinforces what Mr. Ratzinger was addressing in his comments.

Time for the Pope, though, to take a far more aggressive stand against atrocities being committed by American "interrogators" against "detainees."  Time for the Pope to more aggressively question the unjustified invasion of Iraq by "President" Bush under outrageously false pretenses.  ... Including the large number of civilian casualties dismissed by the "President" and his henchmen as "collateral damage."

Time for the Pope to far more aggressively question recent Israeli bombing of Lebanese infrastructure and deliberate killing of innocent Lebanese civilians.  -- In direct violation of American weapons export law that allows only for defensive use of such weapons.  Most importantly, it is time for the world to condemn the outrageous excesses by both sides of the "War Against Terror."

Why do terrorists engage in terror?  It works.  Sadly, Afghanistan and Iraq are proof positive.  There is no other way to take on a superpower.  Engaging in direct combat with overwhelming, well-trained, well-equipped, American forces with the most lethal weaponry ever designed and deployed in combat would quickly lead to defeat.

The enemy is not cowardly or stupid.  Just implacably determined.  -- Something the "President" doesn't seem to understand, and has foolishly underestimated.  Then again, fascists routinely and sadly offer oversimplistic analysis and solutions to enormously difficult problems.

ACLU-Criminal Website Deletions

The following is a series of unedited email correspondence between the American Civil Liberties Union and this writer in regard to criminal deletions of Ledger websites over a year ago.  To date, no response, other than a canned autosponder message has been received from national ACLU headquarters to the latest complaint filed.  Apparently, ACLU no longer has any interest in First Amendment issues, -- or is wildly incompetent.  You decide.  ACLU-Criminal Website Deletions
