Robertson Claims "Divine Punishment" In Sharon Stroke January 6, 2006
Once again, televangelist Pat Robertson has stupidly put his foot in his mouth. This time, he haughtily claimed there was "divine punishment" in the debilitating stroke suffered by Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. -- Supposedly, retribution by the Creator for Sharon's withdrawal from occupied territory earlier last year, and consequent severe political division generated within Israel as a result.
Clearly, the Reverend Robertson has created God in his own image, -- vindictive, petty, violent, greedy, selfish, Right Wing and fascist. Certainly, not an all loving and powerful Creator who is sometimes absent without leave, -- or annoyingly out to lunch when we really need him or her.
Joking aside and regardless, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanoes, fires, lightning, etc. are dangerous forces of nature. So are strokes, heart attacks, cancers, and other medical maladies. Not revenge from a "God" who wishes to stick it to his minions as Mr. Robertson does.
Remarkably and late in life, Mr. Sharon, a frequent target of this publication, finally came to his senses and did the right thing vis a vis the Israel-Palestinian conflict, wisely withdrawing from some territory unjustly occupied by Israel since 1967.
The Prime Minister is a brilliant, but brutal, former military commander. It has been strongly alleged he and his troops committed war crimes during the Israeli invasion of Lebanon back in the early 80's. He was never brought to justice. Never tried.
He became Prime Minister and was exceptionally abominable for quite some time. Recently, however, he commendably had a change in heart and decided the only way for a lasting peace was withdrawal from Palestinian territory. He's right.
Facing
intense opposition by the
Israeli version of the Fascist Right, he also boldly withdrew from his
party and formed a new one. Although things do not look good
at the
time of this writing, hopefully, he will recover and return to his
duties.
He is an extremely powerful political force, possibly the only one able
to ironically bring lasting peace. Indeed, a remarkable
turn-around
for a remarkable man. Should he expire, all bets are off.
Texas Governor Rick Perry, apparently stung by Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn's decision to run against him as an Independent, deliberately pandered to his Fascist Right political base, calling for "Intelligent Design" to be taught as science along with evolution in Texas classrooms.
"Intelligent Design" is regurgitated "Creationism." It is religion falsely masquerading as science. Yet, the Governor clearly wants religion to be returned to the public schools, in direct violation of church-state separation prescribed by the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment.
The Governor signs legislation in churches. He backs school vouchers to private schools, taxpayer funds that would be used to teach Right Wing fascism to students in "Christian" schools. Clearly, he shamelessly and foolishly seeks creation of a "Christian" theocracy despite the fact we live in a truly pluralistic country of many religions, as well as no religion at all.
The
Governor is a fascist who
believes in the pernicious blend of government, business, and
religion.
... A corrupt and abusive oligarchy, perversely "justified" by
bastardized
"religion." In Nazi America.
Twelve of the finest men West Virginia has to offer, truly salt of the earth, were recently killed in a coal mine. ... A mine that had numerous recent safety violations that apparently had not been fully addressed. At first glance, they died as a result of insatiable corporate greed. More profoundly, however, they died as many others before them, -- to improve safety and working conditions in the mines.
In fairness to present mine operators, they only took over management of the mine last November. Apparently, however, although there have been improvements, numerous violations were not corrected prior to the explosion.
Federal and state authorities will conduct investigations and determine ultimate cause of the latest catastrophe. Early speculation is there may have been a lightning strike of a steel pipe leading down to a pocket of natural gas.
Extremely dangerous work, mine safety has improved over the last forty years after every catastrophe. Sadly, it took miner deaths to overcome cost of safety considerations of mine operators. Although the latest miners to die were not unionized, the United Mine Workers of America, as most other unions in our formerly great country, is not as strong as it once was.
Working
conditions and safety
of workers have always been front and center, along with compensation
packages,
during collective bargaining. With the marked decline of
unions over
the last several decades, however, a major force for safety and decent
working conditions has been lost. To the detriment of the
rapidly
vanishing middle class.
Increased insurgent attacks in Iraq with the loss of over 180 killed the last two days, as well as the deaths of an additional eleven U.S. servicemen earlier today, perversely served as backdrop to renewed activity by the "President" to bolster support for the Iraq war.
This time, interestingly, Mr. Bush invited all former Secretaries of State and Defense since the Kennedy Administration to share their views at a White House pow wow. Not surprisingly, much of what the "President" heard was precisely what he clearly and dearly did not want to hear.
Disingenuously, however, he claimed opposition views were welcome, and would indeed be taken into consideration, -- as the war will continue to be prosecuted exactly as it's been. Amusingly, Mr. Bush did not get the rubber stamp he desperately needed from former officials in earlier Administrations. ... Tough, isn't it?
At a time of increased attacks and growing instability in Iraq, however and ironically, the "President" apparently succumbed to domestic political reality and announced troop level would be shortly reduced to several thousand less than baseline.
Sadly,
as Mr. Bush continues to
wage this outrageously botched war fought under false pretenses and
slowly
withdraws troops for political reasons, those remaining will be at
increased
risk. ... As their "Commander In Chief" blithely and
foolishly whistles
past the graveyard in the dark of the night.
Lobbyist kingpin Jack Abramoff formally pled guilty to federal charges in Florida over the last two days and will provide evidence against high level Congressional and "Administration" officials to prosecutors. Washington is abuzz with speculation and Republicans are falling all over themselves to return campaign contributions from the felon. ... Including, the "President."
Democrats,
however, apparently
nonplused, are not, for the most part, following suit.
--
Despite the fact a number
of them are also expected to be targeted for investigation.
Interesting,
isn't it? Is it Aryan arrogance, aggressive stupidity, or do
Democrats
truly believe themselves not guilty of bribery?
