Gitmo "Interrogations" Compared to Nazis, Soviet Gulags June 19, 2005
The U.S. Senate spent the week conducting hearings regarding "interrogation" techniques employed by the military at Guantanamo Bay. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., introduced on the Senate floor a letter by an FBI agent excoriating "interrogation" techniques used by Gitmo "interrogators."
The agent described horrendous abuse, including the case of a "detainee" chained to the floor, without food or water, in his own excrement. Sen. Durbin compared such "interrogation" activities to that of the Nazis and Soviet gulags.
Amusingly, it initiated a firestorm of protest by the Fascist Right in our once great country. Why? ... For telling the truth? -- Truth hurts that bad, boys? If not true, why so angry?
-- My country right or wrong? The ends justify the means? The same was said in Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, the Soviet Union, and elsewhere.
Previously, not here. My, my, my. How things have changed, -- in Nazi America.
Durbin's comments will no more inflame an already inflamed Muslim population, than the "President's" earlier taunts to the enemy to "Bring it on." -- Despite disingenuous claims to the contrary by the fascist element in our once great country. Wake up, boys. Fascism is unbecoming.
While Nazi and Soviet activities and human rights abuses were exponentially worse than that of the United States, how do Durbin's critics think they started? Abuse always initially occurs tentatively at a relatively minor level and eventually worsens if left unchallenged and cowardly tolerated.
Precisely,
what happened in Fascist
Italy, Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, and elsewhere.
...
Moreover, gradually turn
up the heat, and the frog won't jump out of the pot. Is
lulled to
sleep, -- and eventually dies.
People in those countries were too gutless to challenge initial excesses. As they are, here. Americans have amusingly and disingenuously wondered how the rise of Nazism and communism were curiously tolerated by people in those countries. Look in the mirror, friends. Wake up.
History is repeating itself. Here. Now. Yet, most remain gutlessly silent. Why? Anyone who criticizes growing injustice and abuses in our formerly great nation are quickly labeled "unpatriotic." Ostracized. Falsely and conveniently dismissed as "nuts," "over the top," "un-American," "liberal," etc.. In Nazi America.
Fascism is an abusive oligarchy. A pernicious blend of government, big business, and perversely bastardized "religion." "Religion," conveniently eviscerated and cunningly invoked to "justify" the abuses. -- Precisely, the profound evil changes now occurring in our once great country.
The shriller the rhetoric from the Fascist Right, the higher the level of fear. For the first time in 25 years, "conservative" incumbents and their shills are feeling the heat. Imagine that. Their previously, for the most part, unquestioned unchallenged perverse views and self-serving policies are directly coming under increasing attack. -- As things go south in Iraq, energy, the economy, education, Social Security, stem cell research, and a number of other issues.
Piqued at increasing intensified criticism from independents and Democrats, Republicans are angry. Petulantly and profoundly resent pending change in the air, -- especially after a quarter century of unbridled power and running roughshod over their deafeningly silent and cowardly opposition. ... Tough, isn't it?
Howard Dean, Harry Reid, Dick Durbin, and others have finally come out swinging, -- and Republicans are miffed. Hypocritically so, after years of bashing by the GOP and its Nazi shills such as Republican talk show host and prescription drug abuser Rush Limbaugh.
Coming mid-term elections could be quite an eye opener for the Right. Heretofore privileged hallowed cushy positions are now in jeopardy, -- and Republicans know it. ... Desperately fear growing unrest and looming loss of power. Precisely, why the "President's" agenda is stalled in Congress. ... Heartrending, isn't it?
The pendulum always swings the other way, -- eventually. Moreover, the Fascist Right and their Republican shills have no real complaint, anyway. After all, they've owned the political agenda in the United States the last half century or so, -- back to the McCarthy days.
-- With exception of a few brief years during the Sixties. ... A brilliantly sunny, poignant few moments of boundless hope and possibilities long ago. Clearly gone by 1970, but in reality truly lost November 22, 1963 in Dallas. -- Along with the finest President of the 20th Century, if not American history.
Amusingly, not even determined demonizing of President Kennedy for womanizing, by the Fascist Right, could tarnish Mr. Kennedy's legacy, brilliance, energy, and effectiveness during his short Administration. Can only imagine what might have been.
Many still blame the Extreme Right for the assassination and hold them ultimately responsible for the loss. With the subsequent murder of the assassin, however, the nation was doomed to never fully know.
Demonization of the late President by the Right is exceptionally amusing in light of abject hypocrisy. -- Hypocrisy extending to GOP stalwarts like former House Speaker Newt "The Coot" Gingrich, who banged the hell out of a staffer on his Capitol office desk. ... And gleefully served his former wife with divorce papers, -- in her hospital bed after cancer surgery.
The list can go on. ... Certainly, more than enough "indiscretions" to go around, -- by both Democrats and Republicans.
Sadly, it's been all downhill, regardless, since that terrible day in Dallas the President was killed. A coup d'etat effectively accomplished with a mail order $13 surplus Italian rifle.
-- A continued, determined, deliberate, progressive assault on constitutional and civil, rights and liberties. ... The rich get richer, the poor poorer. -- The middle class, an endangered species.
-- With exception of Afghanistan, additional unprovoked unjust wars.
-- Exponentially increased abusive policing and malicious prosecutions.
... Sadly, just the proverbial tip of the iceberg. In Nazi America. Don't like the rhetoric? Leave the Country.
Unwilling to leave well enough alone, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush called for an investigation of the Schiavo case by state prosecutors. Ms. Schiavo's autopsy results were released earlier this week, vindicating her husband's and physicians' contention she was in a persistent vegetative state.
Gov. Bush curiously now wants prosecutors to investigate circumstances 15 years ago at the time she was stricken. Mr. Bush seems to think Mr. Schiavo may have waited an hour to call for help. ... Hey, Jeb? Get a life, sir. Let this woman rest in peace.
Give it up, Governor. -- Had their been any evidence of malfeasance on the part of Mr. Schiavo 15 years ago, he would already have been investigated and prosecuted. Grasping at straws, Jeb? Why?
... In a perverse effort to curry favor with the Fascist Right? -- The same sick bastards who would not let this woman expire and sickeningly wanted her to remain exactly as she was? A vegetable?
Is
that "Christian" "charity,"
sir?
A
Bush "Administration" energy
official quietly resigned two days after exposure in the
media. --
Seems, he altered a scientific global warming report to force it in
line
with "Administration" energy policy. Conveniently, he'll now
be employed
by a major oil company. Precisely, why half the nation has no
faith
or trust in the "President."
Sergeant Leigh Ann Hestor, an Army Kentucky National Guard MP, received the Silver Star for leading her squad into battle earlier this year. -- Directly, into the line of fire and a firefight that lasted approximately an hour and a half. She and her colleagues were in the vicinity of an attack on a convoy and went to their rescue. Sgt. Hestor is the first woman awarded the Silver Star since the Second World War. ... Who says women can't fight?
Last night, Austin Police Chief Stan Knee and an assistant Austin city manager met with Dove Springs residents to discuss the Rocha killing by Officer Julie Schroeder a week ago. The Chief was aggressively confronted by a demonstrably angry crowd. Clearly, they did not buy his story or that of his officers.
The Chief confirmed the earlier claim by Austin Police Association Mike Sheffield that an officer had a leg broken in the "struggle" was false. Translation? Mr. Sheffield lied.
In addition, Chief Knee confirmed there were no videotapes of the "struggle." -- A direct violation of APD policy. ... One officer allegedly "forgot" to turn the camera on. The other allegedly did not have a tape in the system.
Buy it? Could it be the tapes were destroyed since they did not support officers' claims of a "struggle?" Will the public ever learn the truth? We'll see.
Backpedaling on an earlier report, Austin Police sources now say the officer injured in the supposed Rocha struggle did not have his leg broken, but severely bruised. ... Again, boys, which is it?
Later in the day, June 15, the Austin Police Department announced it had received notice from the FBI that it would begin a preliminary investigation of the Rocha killing.
... Better than nothing, but still leaves a lot to be desired. Especially, after foot dragging by the FBI on two earlier recent investigations of APD killings. Then again, in a fascist police state what more can be expected?
The Austin Police Department has a well-deserved, well-earned reputation for highly abusive policing. Beatings, killings, harassment of innocent citizens, etc. have been a continuous problem for APD over the last 25 years. Certainly, since this writer first moved to town in 1980.
On Thursday evening, June 9, Officer Julie Schroeder shot and killed 18-year-old Daniel Rocha. -- Although no model citizen, Rocha was shot in the back, supposedly during a struggle with two officers.
"Supposedly," since the first medical examiner report indicated there were no signs of a struggle on Rocha's body. A subsequent report now says there were. ... Which is it, boys? Can't get your stories straight? Or have the police pressured the medical examiner to change the report?
Witnesses claim there was no struggle. Assert Rocha was pulled from the car by Schroeder, laid face down on the sidewalk, and then shot in the back.
Police officials dispute eyewitness reports. Claim Rocha, 5'6" and 120 lbs., was viciously fighting Schroeder. Assert another officer had a leg broken in the struggle.
-- The broken leg claim came four days after the incident and was disclosed by Mike Sheffield, head of the Police Association. The Chief has conveniently and cowardly maintained a low profile since the incident and has had remarkably little to say. ... Other than the officer was justified.
To date, there has been no outside independent investigation. -- APD is conveniently "investigating" itself. Will report results to the DA. The DA will present all "evidence" to a grand jury in approximately two weeks. Which, as usual, will likely no bill. ... Want to bet Schroeder will be turned into a "hero?"
Sheffield claims Schroeder, despite a supposed horrendous struggle with Rocha, was not injured. In addition, Sheffield now claims a weapon was found. But did not disclose what the "weapon" was, and why police did not immediately release such information after the killing.
Remember, this information disclosure was made by a police association president, not officially by the police department itself. Apparently, the good ole' boys are desperately trying to get their stories straight.
The medical examiner claimed steel knuckles were found in Rocha's pocket, and a baggie with a leafy substance in it was discovered near the scene of the killing. -- Earlier, a claim was made the baggie was found in the car. Which is it, boys? A just-released toxicology report by the medical examiner, however, indicated Rocha was clean. Nothing in his bloodstream. Was "evidence" planted? We may never know.
The driver of the car is allegedly in jail, -- although police have refused to provide any information. Another passenger, who fled the scene, is allegedly still at large. Police have refused to provide a full account and details, apparently to cover their ass and mislead an already inflamed public. -- Much more to come.
Entertainer Michael Jackson, "The Gloved One," has been found not-guilty of all 10 child molestation counts. -- Fourteen not-guilty verdicts in all. ... Despite the fact California is one of a handful of states that allows prosecutors to present unsubstantiated unproven unprosecuted allegations of past sexual crimes during trial. -- An outrageously unconstitutional law that violates constitutional rights and due process. Why?
Past criminal behavior, whether true or not, whether prosecuted or not, does not prove the current crime in question was committed by the defendant. Propensity or past history is not proof. The state cannot morally prosecute, convict, and send someone to prison for a current crime on the basis of no more than past alleged or earlier proven criminal behavior. ... Whether or not the past criminal behavior in fact occurred, and/or was prosecuted.
Jackson jurors clearly indicated the state had not proven its case, complained there was no physical evidence. The state apparently mistakenly relied on non-credible witnesses and unproven past criminal allegations. Translation? It had no case, and paid the price.
Doesn't mean, however, Jackson is innocent. Only means the case was not proven beyond a reasonable doubt, -- benchmark for conviction in criminal cases. Interestingly, juror Raymond Hultman believes Jackson to be a molester, but not in this case. ... Despite the fact, reported by Jackson defense attorney Tom Mesereau, that three witnesses on the stand denied being molested by Jackson earlier. Fascinating, isn't it?
At the very least and to be most kind, Jackson, indeed, has enormous personal problems. -- No man in his right mind would ever sleep with children. If not a pedophile, he is, at the very least, severely disturbed. At worst, he is a pedophile who escaped criminal responsibility for his crimes.
Be interesting to see if the family sues. Under reduced standards of proof, the outcome of a civil suit could be quite different. Especially, since Jackson would be required to respond to interrogatories, submit to deposition, and testify under oath at civil trial. Unlikely, however, according to legal authorities, -- after comments made by jury members pointedly indicating the family has no credibility.
Regardless, the failed Jackson prosecution appears to be a personal vendetta on the part of the District Attorney. Despite strong denials by the prosecutor, Tom Sneddon went to trial with virtually no physical evidence and defense witnesses that had no credibility. Apparently, the prosecutor was miffed after an earlier attempt failed to bring Jackson to trial some 12 years ago on another remarkably similar case.
This latest prosecution, however, an outrageously flimsy case, was apparently a malicious prosecution to finally "get" the sorry, sick bastard. ... Right, Counselor? At the very least, acquitted defendants in all criminal cases should be awarded legal expenses after acquittal. Justice demands it. Why should victims of prosecutors foot the bill?
-- Would certainly make prosecutors carefully consider who is brought to trial and under what conditions. Would certainly cut down on false prosecutions. ... False prosecutions only conducted to conveniently put another notch on the belt of a corrupt and abusive prosecutor.
In
the case of malicious
prosecutions, however, all bets should be off. Sovereign
immunity
statutes ought to be immediately relaxed, and acquitted defendants
should
have the opportunity to sue the shit out of the criminal bastards
responsible
for maliciously prosecuting them.
...
After taxpayers get soaked,
prosecutors would finally get the message their cases had better
be authentic and in good faith.
As a society, we do not effectively handle pedophiles. While prosecution ought to be a start, it is not sufficient by itself. Convicted pedophiles must be permanently removed from society since there is no "cure." -- Not conveniently incarcerated a few years, and then released to re-offend.
More
importantly, they belong
in mental health facilities with no chance of ever
getting out.
...
Nearly every damned one of
them has a history of having been abused as a child
themselves. Sadly,
the problem senselessly perpetrates itself generation to
generation.
-- When released, they nearly always
re-offend. The damage
is horrendous and lasts a lifetime. Affects everyone the
victim comes
into contact with.
Decades ago, this writer was in a relationship with a woman who displayed every classical symptom of having been sexually abused as a child. Every damned one of them. At a different time when discussion of sexual abuse was taboo, she repeatedly and heatedly denied having been sexually abused by the most likely perpetrator, her father, -- or anyone else.
There is no question sexual abuse of children is horrendous and long-term. Effects every aspect of their lives, -- as well as those closest to them. Needless to say, the relationship failed, -- not only due to the earlier sexual abuse, but also the inability of this writer to effectively deal with the woman's problem.
-- A problem that had indeed become mine and was extremely poorly handled by this writer due to youthful inexperience, aggressive stupidity, and enormous irritation at the woman's inability to effectively communicate. ... Sadly, ineffective communication due not only to taboos in place at the time, but also long-term effects of the earlier sexual molestation itself. The woman didn't stand a chance. Nor did anyone around her.
Today, things are quite different then they were back then. Communication is far more open. Help is available. Sexual abuse should be reported, quickly and effectively dealt with. Immediately. No one should ever let it stand unchallenged. Spouses of perpetrators should deal with the problem, not bury their heads in the sand, -- as did the mother of the victim just discussed. Our children deserve far, far better.
The U.S. Senate, with great fanfare, "apologized" Monday for failing to outlaw lynching. For fifty years, Southern "conservative" Senators managed to kill all legislation passed by the House outlawing this despicable bigoted practice. Successfully, using the filibuster. Reportedly, 5,000 people were lynched over a sixty year period, ending in the early Sixties.
For decades, children were dismissed early from school to attend lynchings. Lynchings were public events, grand festivities perversely attended by "patriotic," "religious," "law abiding," church going "pillars of the community." In Nazi America. Long before, during, and after Hitler's Third Reich.
Five thousand wantonly killed, -- and all the Senate does is "apologize?" To amusingly and pointedly borrow a phrase from a Right Wing fascist talk show host and prescription drug abuser, Rush Limbaugh, this is no more than "symbolism over substance."
Bigotry is alive and well. All over the United States. The playing field is far from level. Yet, Affirmative Action has been hypocritically eviscerated by the courts and Fascist Right. -- Both, apparently threatened by advancement of minorities and women.
An
"apology" by the Senate rings
hollow. Does nothing to correct past and present wrongdoing
and injustice.
Worse, bigotry is now in the closet, much harder to combat.
Exactly,
what the Right desperately wants and seeks.
Texas death row inmate Thomas Miller-El will receive a new trial. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled, 6-3, prosecutors deliberately loaded the jury with whites in an effort to deny Miller-El a fair trial. Interesting, isn't it? How many, in similar circumstances, have already been executed?
Jose
Podilla, an American citizen,
has been held three years without being charged.
--
Arrested in Chicago and held
as an "enemy combatant" by the Bush "Administration." Podilla
challenged
the legality of his incarceration and won in an appeals
court. The
government immediately appealed the ruling and the court subsequently
dragged
its feet. Three years, no charges.
In Nazi America.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled earlier today it will not get involved at this time. Not speed up the process. Despite the fact the case will eventually be considered by the highest court of the land, no matter which side wins the current appeal. The Sixth Amendment has once again been egregiously ignored by the Court.
Clearly,
the Supreme Court has
little regard for habeas corpus and due process. -- An
ongoing problem
the last sixty years. The Bill of Rights means little to
nothing
to fascists sitting on the high court. Will only worsen as
the Court
leans further and further to the Right. Precisely, why it is
absolutely
necessary Democrats stonewall all fascist judicial appointments.
