Bush Social Security Hustle April 30, 2005
Following up new "proposals" announced during an April 28 prime time news conference, Ole' George "The Tush" continued pushing his Social Security agenda during the Saturday radio address.
Seems
the "President" knows
he's in trouble on this issue, and is desperately trying to appease
critics.
Now, Mr. Bush is proposing cuts in retirement
benefits for those
earning over $25K.
--
Well over half the
working population.
... Cuts ranging 30-40% depending on income level. Yet, the "President" remains unwilling to raise FICA taxes, or increase the cap on wages subject to FICA. Interesting, isn't it?
Not surprisingly, Democrats have quickly taken advantage of "Presidential" tap dancing on the matter. Additionally, GOP "conservatives" are not happy with the new exceptionally "progressive" "Presidential" "soak the rich" plan to "save" Social Security. Tough, isn't it?
Currently, the "President" is all over the place, politically. From Right Wing and fascist to progressively "liberal." -- Whichever way the political wind is blowing, in a desperate effort to improve declining poll numbers. And his highly questionable place in history.
In fairness to the fascist occupying the White House, though, there is a genuine need to revamp Social Security. It should be done now. Not two years from now. Not 35 years hence, when it will likely be in dire straights.
The
devil is in the details, however.
Highly unlikely both major parties will soon agree on a viable
bi-partisan
plan to achieve badly-needed change. Too bad. The
citizenry
will severely pay the price for failure, and short-sighted unlimited
partisan
willingness to indulge in self-serving political expediency.
At the
expense of the people.
Imagine that. The U.S. House reversed earlier rules changes designed to protect and coddle Rep. Tom "The Hammer" DeLay. The Ethics Committee will now investigate the former exterminator on a number of possible ethics violations. Tough, isn't it?
Congress
is the least of Ole'
Tom's worries, however. There is the distinct possibility
Travis
County District Attorney Ronnie Earle may soon indict the powerful
congressman,
-- as he already has DeLay's henchmen. ... Gettin' awfully
hot in
the kitchen.....right, Tommy?
More accurately, the "President" has no energy "policy," -- other than increasing profits of the energy industry. The chickens are finally coming home to roost, however. Readers will recall Mr. Bush gave energy profiteers carte blanche four years ago after taking office.
"Vice President" "Slick Dick" Cheney conducted secret meetings with corporate cronies in the energy industry, and refused to release the substance of those "consultations." Public Information requests, conveniently denied. Backed by fascist "judges", unwilling to enforce the law.
Now, the Bush "Administration" and GOP are increasingly worried about the negative effect enormous energy prices are having on the economy and public sentiment. ... Tough, isn't it? With midterm elections quickly approaching, Republicans are concerned they may get the boot. Again, tough, isn't it? Not that Democrats are any better.
-- Don't worry guys. The public is too damned aggressively stupid to hold government officials personally responsible for the scam. After all, "personal responsibility" is reserved for the unwashed masses, not corrupt and abusive government or corporate officials. ... Consider prosecutorial foot-dragging in regard to Houston Rep. Tom DeLay and corporate officials at Enron.
Mr. Bush and his henchmen are running scared, however. Energy prices may become their Achilles' heel. Consequently, Ole' George "The Tush" is feverishly suggesting "solutions" that will have absolutely no short-term effect on gasoline prices. By his own admission. Symbolism over substance, as a glaringly fascist radio talk show host might whine.
Drilling in Alaska will produce no new oil for seven to ten years. Maybe, not even in significant quantities then, since reserves may have been overestimated. New billions in tax breaks for energy profiteers will only line the pockets of the greedy, and have no effect on current prices. New oil refineries on closed military bases will take years to come on line, if ever. Tax breaks for energy efficient diesels will take years to affect energy prices, again, if ever.
If the "President" truly wished to lower energy prices, he'd immediately call for an independent investigation into egregious criminal price gouging by energy companies. ... Huge, increased energy prices over the last few months not explained by increased consumption in China and elsewhere. Gouging that can only be explained by insatiable greed and avarice of the energy industry.
Adding insult to injury and exquisitely ironic, see the recent video of "President" Bush walking literally hand in hand with Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah at his Crawford ranch? -- After giving him a kiss on both cheeks? Further indication despite the foreign custom, the Bush family has been figuratively in bed with the Saudi ruling family. For years.
A
bit disingenuous, therefore,
for the "President" to implore the Saudis, hat in hand, to increase oil
production and reduce prices, isn't it? Then again, hypocrisy
is
standard operating procedure for fascists. In Nazi
America.
Insurgents in Iraq ratcheted up violent activities over the last several weeks. -- Reversing a prolonged lull since the end of January. The reduction in violence after the Iraqi election, however, inspired American commanders to haughtily claim they had broken, or were about to break, the spine of the insurgency. Supposedly, facilitating withdrawal of troops beginning at the end of the year. Not to be.
Apparently and sadly, foolish, open, public, gloating comment by military commanders re-energized the enemy, akin to the "Bring it on" comment made earlier by the "President." Too bad. Unfortunately, the killing has markedly increased. -- At the expense of innocent Iraqis and American personnel.
Curiously, the glib response of the U.S. propaganda machine was to disclose full details of the near-capture of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi on Feb. 20. Over two months ago. Why embellish now? To falsely imply the U.S. has, or will soon have, a handle on the seemingly endless violence? In a country so remarkably unstable and dangerous reporters are unable to freely travel and reasonably safely report what's truly going on?
A bit disingenuous, isn't it? Especially, in view of remarkably similar news disclosed by military officials a few weeks ago involving the supposed capture of a Zarqawi driver. Remember? Were the incidents one and the same? Apparently content to accept military propaganda as truth, why aren't the media asking pointed questions to get the facts? ... The glaring lack of incisive investigative reporting, giving the lie to a supposedly "liberal" media.
Regardless, doesn't the public care? Amusingly and sadly, the dopes have again been duped. By an "Administration" only interested in cleverly manipulating public opinion and imposing its fascist agenda with as little opposition as possible. On a gutless, aggressively stupid body politic. In Nazi America.
Homophobic bigotry is alive and well in the Texas House. A "Defense" Of Marriage Amendment easily passed, receiving 101 votes. Nearly 3-1 in favor. Bipartisan bigotry at its worst, -- in the name of "morality" and "religion." The amendment moves on to the Texas Senate.
If finally approved, Texas voters will have the final say at the polls in the fall. This outrageous proposed amendment is no more than constitutionalization of homophobic bigotry and prejudice. ... By fascists extremely insecure in their marriages, and their own sexuality. In Nazi America.
The war in Iraq rages on. The killing continues unabated. Talk several weeks ago of American withdrawal of American forces beginning by the end of the year has ended. ... Who'd a' 'thunk' it?
Propaganda from the military and U.S. government is nowhere as rosy as it used to be. Interesting, isn't it?
The "President" rushed into this insanity with no thought as to its resolution. Did not define "victory." Had no exit plan.
No question, there were a handful, including this writer, who believed the "President" had not made his case regarding the existence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq prior to onset of hostilities.
Mr. Bush offered no proof. No evidence. Former Secretary of State Colin Powell's case for their existence was painfully lacking and blatantly scripted. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld's false claim to know precisely where those weapons supposedly were, rang hollow.
After years of investigation of the massive intelligence failure not only of the non-existent Iraqi weapons of mass destruction but of the 9/11 catastrophe, no one has been held responsible. No one. Not one government official.
The highest echelons of power have received a free ride on accountability. Personal responsibility is clearly reserved for the unwashed masses. Not business management. Certainly, not government officials.
The "President" has remained gutlessly silent on the issue of responsibility. Why? Is it simply a matter of "loyalty" to his underlings? Think again.
Any other President so supposedly ill-served by government employees, agents, agencies, bureaucrats, etc. would have been outraged, figuratively jumping up and down. ... Angry to the point, where heads would have quickly rolled. Yet, Ole' George "The Tush" has remained curiously silent. Why?
The intelligence community has also had little to say regarding the fiasco. It's been mercilessly maligned, but offered no explanation. Just fell on the sword, apparently. It's extremely hard, however, to believe the level of incompetence is as high as it appears.
Sadly, there are two explanations for ongoing silence and failure to resolve the issue. Both are chilling and grossly unacceptable in a supposedly "free" country, supposedly dedicated to defending liberty and rights.
First, the intelligence community may be no more than an inept, corrupt, and abusive sham dedicated only to itself and its own narrow objectives. Bloodsuckers. This explanation is untenable and a slap in the face of all those who have given their lives, desperately attempting to provide credible, accurate information to policy makers. Under dangerous circumstances. For decades.
The second more likely explanation is the possibility the intelligence community may have willingly become the fall guy of our corrupt, abusive, and inept "President." Fallen on the sword, so to speak.
That is, Mr. Bush and his "Administration" may have deliberately goaded the intelligence community into providing "information" conducive to its plans to invade Iraq and remove its admittedly brutal dictator. ... Knowing full well the American public would not have supported an invasion only to remove an offensive government offering no immediate threat.
Congress is just as responsible for the Iraq fiasco as the "President." They granted Mr. Bush nearly unlimited power to prosecute the war. Now, when it's become clear the war was initiated under false pretenses, there's been no investigation of the "President's" actions and motives. No impeachment proceedings in a Republican-owned Congress.
Think the American people will ever wake up, finally realize they've been had? Apparently, unlikely. After all, the dopes have been duped, -- over, and over, and over again.
Congress is considering a bill, HR 418, called the Real ID Act of 2005 that is cleverly designed to further trample civil and constitutional rights and liberties if enacted.
One especially onerous provision under Waiver of Law would prevent judicial review of certain actions by the Secretary of Homeland Security. -- Establishing by unconstitutional law, the first American dictator.
... A direct attack on the third branch of government, the judiciary, -- watchdog and last governmental defense against Executive and Legislative abuses.
Incredibly,
this bill has approximately
60 co-sponsors. Bona fide fascists, masquerading as
"conservatives."
While it virtually has no chance of passage as is, the fact it is even
being considered is chilling. ... And a precursor of far
worse to
come. In Nazi America.
The "President" lied. Again. He falsely promised not to interfere in the Congressional battle over filibuster rule changes. -- Seems extremists in the GOP have their panties hopelessly tied in a wad over a handful of fascist judicial nominations filibustered by Democrats. Tough, isn't it?
... No matter Democrats indeed confirmed 205, balking on 10 of the worst fascists nominated.
... No matter Republicans balked on some 65 of Clinton's judicial nominations, cleverly employing the pocket filibuster. ... Then again, never confuse a fascist with the truth, -- or hypocrisy.
The "Vice-President" now claims he's ready to break a tie vote, if necessary, in the Senate to conveniently change the filibuster rule, requiring only simple majority for cloture. ... When Republicans don't get what they want, and now, they change the rules. No different than Democrats, vilified for years for doing the same.
Amusingly,
weakening of filibuster
rules could come back to bite the GOP hard on the ass.
...
When tables turn, -- as
they always do. When that happens, and it
will, they'll
find they've lost benefit of the original intention of the
filibuster:
to protect the rights of the minority, against the tyranny of the
majority.
... Precisely, why the Founders created a republic, not a pure democracy. Then again, don't confuse a fascist with the truth.
If
Republicans indeed impose this
rule change, what has been called the "nuclear option," Democrats have
vowed to bring all Senate business to a crawl. -- All-out
political
war to ensue.
Who'd a' 'thunk' it? The chain of command conveniently received a free ride on torture and abuse of inmates at the American-run POW prison at Abu Ghraib. Couldn't be, could it?
Surprise, surprise. Four top officers, including former Iraq commander Lt.Gen. Ricardo Sanchez, will not be disciplined. ... Can't have that now, can we?
Apparently,
Brig.Gen. Karpinski,
MP commander, will become the fall gal. ... Maybe.
--
Unless she balks, refuses
to fall on the sword, and sticks it to others higher up the food chain.
Sadly, this problem extends well beyond the military. Tragically, right up to the Oval Office and "Chief Executive", -- and his henchmen.
As
usual, however, the brass gets
its ass protected at the expense of grunts on the bottom.
--
Grunts who don't fart without
permission of the chain of command. ... Another sad day in
American
history.
