Indeed, a sad, sad day. Pope John Paul II has died. This exceptional man was loved by countless millions. Including many, non-Catholics. He appealed to people of different faiths, and those of none. His spirituality and example were remarkable.
Fluent in thirteen languages, John Paul traveled the world. Stood up for those who could not do so themselves. Championed the poor and courageously challenged injustice. Certainly, had no difficulty strongly articulating his opposition to the "President's" invasion of Iraq, as well as seemingly unlimited American greed and materialism.
Courageously, stood up to communism in his native Poland immediately returning as Pope, urging fellow countrymen and women stand, not grovel before Poland's communist masters.
Although strongly criticizing Bush for his invasion of Iraq, John Paul II remained deafeningly silent regarding ongoing abuse and abrogation of civil, constitutional, and human rights after 9/11 in our once great country. Too bad.
Had little to nothing to say, as well, about "Administration" policy of "rendition" of "detainees" to foreign governments where they could conveniently be tortured under the guise of "interrogation." To his credit, however, the Pope did condemn the torture and abuse that went on in Abu Ghraib.
Once again, the "President" abrogated church-state separation as proscribed by the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment, ordering the Flag flown at half staff until the papal funeral. The late Pope was not an American citizen, but a world religious icon. Imagine the outcry had Bush been Catholic?
Indeed, the Pope was deceptively enthralled by Bush's supposed "moral compass." -- No question, Ole' George "The Tush" successfully pulled the wool over John Paul's eyes regarding a variety of issues. Yet, the Pope did call him on at least some of them.
Too bad, however, he did not openly challenge the fascist on all of it, -- as he did in Poland after ascending the Papacy. The Pope certainly understood the evils of Nazism and communism, having lived under both. Should have been far more critical of what is going on here. Would have been a public service and wake up call.
Despite being "socially conservative", he appealed across the board to all, -- even to those who did not agree on the issues of abortion, birth control, gay marriage, the role of women in the church, a married priesthood, church handling of pedophile priests, etc..
His
warmth, sincerity, sense of
humor, and boundless love served him well and the people he
loved.
All across the globe. He will be missed. No
question, a hard
act to follow for his successor.
Severely brain-damaged Terri Schiavo, in a permanent vegetative state, died 13 days after her food and hydration tube was removed. -- Her wishes, according to husband Michael Schiavo and other witnesses.
Her parents and siblings legally fought to the very end, failing after seven years of litigation. Losing every step of the way, -- at both state and federal levels. Even, after outrageously unconstitutional legislation signed into "law" by the "President."
... Legislation craftily designed to abrogate the powers of the third branch of government, -- the judiciary. Why? The "President" and Congressional fascists are unhappy with seven years of state court rulings in favor of the right to die.
An "activist" Congress and "President" are determined to unconstitutionally overpower, overrule a co-equal branch of government. Texas Rep. Tom DeLay, in a desperate effort to distract attention from his ethical problems and possible indictment by Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle, is threatening impeachment of all federal judges involved in the flurry of litigation prior to Schiavo's death. So are other Republican colleagues. In Nazi America.
As heartrending as this case was, and is, the right to die was affirmed by every court in ruling after ruling. Additionally tragic, however, is the fact litigation continued seven years after onset. This was not a criminal case. No one faced execution or incarceration. Yet, the right to honor his wife's wishes was denied Mr. Schiavo for seven years.
All the more reason to have a living will. Even though such a document does not necessarily guarantee one's wishes are followed. ... Especially, if family members remain hopelessly selfish and refuse to allow a loved one to die in peace.
Worse, the case became a convenient opportunity for the Fascist Right to force its supposedly "pro-life" agenda. In perverse zeal, hypocritical "religious" Nazis eviscerated Michael Schiavo's reputation. Amusingly, ignoring their head honcho's decidedly pointed admonition not to judge, -- lest they be judged.
... Hypocrisy, indeed poignantly comical, sadly at Schiavo's expense. More importantly, a true indication of a pitiful lack of substance. ... Then again, don't confuse a Nazi with the truth.
Worst of all, Michael Schiavo's critics deliberately distorted reality in their condemnation of him. Deceived themselves and anyone foolish enough to accept their perverse convolution of reality. For political and "religious" purposes.
... Conveniently, ignoring Michael's efforts to secure the very best medical care for his severely brain-damaged wife, for the first eight years after her heart attack. -- Until it became clear she was permanently brain-damaged in a persistent vegetative state. The professional opinion of her physicians, not dictated by Schiavo or anyone else but by reality.
Yet, the Nazi Right saw fit to accuse him of greed. Despite the fact nearly all money had been spent on his wife's care, -- and the fact he refused a $1 million offer to walk away. Then again, never confuse a Nazi with the truth.
Pitifully,
the Right condemned
Michael for living with another woman and siring children.
...
Conveniently, forgetting
his wife's parents had earlier urged him to date again after it became
clear their daughter would not recover.
Regardless, who the hell is the Nazi Right to pass judgment on anyone? As the head honcho of their religion also pointedly admonished, remove the speck from your eye first, before worrying about the one in another's.
Of equal importance, the feud between Michael and the family occurred after settlement of a lawsuit. A judgment, awarding no money to the family. Only to husband and wife. -- Money seems to be the driving force behind the actions of the family. ... Despicably, they've reportedly sold a mailing list of all those who corresponded with them to a marketing firm. Compassionate, aren't they?
The fact it took two weeks for Schiavo to expire after removal of the feeding and hydration tube demands renewed public consideration and debate. -- Regarding the ethics and need for physician-assisted suicide and/or euthanasia.
After all, few would allow a beloved pet to "live" under such horrendous conditions as Schiavo. Don't humans deserve at least as much? Or is such consideration reserved only for those lower on the evolutionary chain?
Hypocritically, our outrageously fascist "President" lamented the passing of Schiavo, perversely urging adoption of a "culture of life." -- As, he wages an unjust, unprovoked war in Iraq launched under false pretenses. -- As he "renders" "detainees" to other countries to be abused and tortured during "interrogation."
-- As he conveniently ignores all executions conducted while governor of Texas. In effect, no more than state-sponsored murder. At the same time, insisting on dictating to women what they can and cannot do with their uterus. Sadly amusing, isn't it? Ironic, as well. In Nazi America.
Famed criminal defense attorney Johnny Cochran died of an inoperable brain tumor Tuesday. Cochran had been ill for some time. Was best known by the public for representing O.J. Simpson in his murder trial more than ten years ago.
Sadly, Cochran was savaged by the Fascist Right for that case. Apparently, the Nazi Right does not believe in the Sixth Amendment guarantee of legal counsel no matter the guilt or innocence of a defendant.
Cochran began his career as a prosecutor in Los Angeles and rightfully was responsible for the conviction of many criminals in his jurisdiction. Moving on to civil rights issues and abuses, Johnny built a reputation for representing indigent victims of LA police brutality.
Although the Right complains Cochran was self-centered and catered to the rich and famous, reality dictates otherwise. Johnny cared about those on the bottom of the food chain, was an advocate of those who had none.
Reputation butchered by representation of Simpson, Cochran did no more than any good defense attorney would do for his client. Amusingly, Johnny did not "win" the case, however. LAPD and the prosecution lost it. Had police and prosecutors properly handled evidence and professionally conducted themselves during course of the investigation and trial, they would have won.
Commentary by many in the legal community after Cochran's untimely death indicates he may have been the best Black criminal defense attorney in history. Others think he may have been the best, period. Interesting, isn't it? Even Simpson himself released a supportive statement. ... Especially amusing, however, since reportedly Cochran had never been paid.
The Michael Jackson child molestation trial has taken a decidedly fascist twist. The "judge" decided to allow prosecutors to introduce "pattern" "evidence" from earlier unproven, unprosecuted cases. Only one former alleged "victim" has agreed to give testimony. "Evidence" virtually no more than hearsay, though, will be allowed from third parties, including parents of earlier alleged "victims."
Had Jackson been earlier convicted of child molestation, however, it still would have been an outrageous violation of constitutional rights and egregiously prejudicial to present evidence of those past offenses in the current case. Why?
Simply because a defendant has been accused, charged, or convicted earlier, does not mean or prove he committed the current offense for which he is being prosecuted. To introduce earlier allegations, whether true or not, is kangaroo justice. In Nazi America. -- Why bother to try the sick son of a bitch? Just line him against a wall and shoot him? Right? If it was indeed good enough for the storm troopers in Nazi Germany, why not for the Nazis here and now?
Sarcasm aside, the trial has apparently gone so bad for the prosecution the trial "judge" felt compelled to bolster the prosecution and pile on "witnesses." Conveniently, these "witnesses" will so prejudice the jury Jackson will be denied a fair trial as guaranteed by the Sixth Amendment.
Saddest of all, this circus of a trial is inevitably turning into a classical example of kangaroo justice. -- Consequently, will make it far harder for molestation victims to be believed in future cases. Especially, since the "victims" in the Jackson case appear driven by greed, money not justice. The prosecution couldn't care less, -- as long as it gets another notch on the belt. Regardless of whether Jackson is guilty.
If Jackson is indeed guilty, however, he still deserves a fair trial as guaranteed by the Sixth Amendment. If not, he's suffered an atrocity at the hands of an outrageously fascist judge and prosecutors. ... Perverse weirdness and repeated exceptional lack of good judgment, moreover, are no proof of molestation. -- Just indication of a profoundly disturbed, likely formerly abused, sad, sick soul.
If
guilty of molestation, however,
Jackson should be permanently removed from society. If not,
he should
be left the hell alone by prosecutors and law enforcement.
Saddest
of all, the deliberate introduction of earlier alleged, unproven
allegations
at trial make it far harder for the innocent to defend themselves when
falsely accused. Reinforcing a glaringly unconstitutional
precedent
for future cases. In Nazi America.
