Abject "Presidential" Cowardice February 12, 2005
Once
again demonstrating abject
"Presidential" cowardice, the White House Office of Management and
Budget
identified 150 programs to be axed or severely cut back, -- late Friday
afternoon to minimize media exposure and unwanted attention.
When
Mr. Bush and his henchmen aren't running from news coverage, they're
"buying"
it. Readers are reminded the "Administration" paid at least 3
members
of media to promulgate its views and agenda. Most likely,
more.
Following up belligerent first public acknowledgment of possession of nuclear weapons yesterday, North Korea once again called for bilateral talks with the United States. -- After pulling out of 6-way disarmament talks with its neighbors.
This
increasingly isolated rogue
nation is determined to keep weapons of mass destruction.
...
As leverage against the United
States. Sadly, none of this would have been an issue had the
U.S.
not interfered in the Korean debacle 55 years ago. Adding
insult
to injury, our troops remain over half a century later.
The Bush "Administration" refuses to negotiate bilaterally, -- due to the fact the North Koreans reneged on an earlier agreement with the Clinton Administration to disarm. Apparently, the "President" is afraid history will repeat itself, since verification is extremely difficult if not impossible in such a closed society.
Consequently, Mr. Bush and his henchmen insist on making North Korean disarmament a regional issue. Does the "President" truly believe regional governments will be any more successful in ensuring the North will not renege in the future?
The only reason the North became a nuclear power in the first place is ongoing presence of American troops in the South. Amusingly, the Bush "Administration", diplomatically unsuccessful, is forcing its problem on others in the region. -- A problem directly caused by earlier American Administrations.
Refusal to accept responsibility has become a hallmark of the Bush "Administration." After all, the "President", to date, still believes he's made no mistakes in the last four years. As with the North Korean fiasco, Mr. Bush and his henchmen expect others, specifically the European community, to solve the ongoing problem they created in Iraq with a "pre-emptive", unprovoked, un-American attack. Wisely, the Europeans didn't bite, insisting Mr. Bush clean up the mess, himself.
Sadly, nuclear weapons are a fact of life. Tragically in effect, an "equalizer", -- as the ole' six-shooter in the early West. It is ludicrously unreasonable to expect nuclear as well as non-nuclear powers to give up or not develop such devastating weapons of mass destruction. Think the U.S. ever would?
Worse, it is Aryan arrogant and imperialistic to interfere in the internal affairs of a sovereign nation by force to impose one's will. Had such force been threatened and/or employed against the United States, the Fascist Right would, and did, rightfully scream bloody murder. Most recent example? ... 9/11.
Iraq, however, did not commit the atrocity. Bin Laden and al Qaeda did. Yet, our fascist "President" "pre-emptively" targeted and attacked Iraq. ... Ignorantly backed by a cowardly and aggressively stupid American public, -- who bought the "President's" deception hook, line, and sinker. Precisely, why the United States is now feared by its friends, and despised by its enemies.
Worst of all, the American public still doesn't "get it." -- Ludicrously believes it's quite all right when we unjustly stick it to others, but loudly howls when it's done to us. Can't have it both ways, friends. The world sees through the hypocrisy.
Ironically, Mr. Bush foolishly established a haven for terrorism in Iraq that did not exist before the war. -- New terrorists, needlessly created by the invasion. Fighters that will have to be dealt with long after the United States leaves Iraq with its tail between its legs, -- despite the "successful" Iraqi election.
Laughably, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice disingenuously whined the people of North Korea will only become more isolated. How, Condi? How is it possible for isolation of a literally starving population to grow any worse than it already is?
"Administration"
unwillingness
and failure to directly deal with North Korea is ominous.
When a
regime is collectively unstable and erratic, it is the height of folly
and extremely dangerous to refuse to directly deal
with the problem.
... Especially, when tens of thousands of American troops would
immediately
be subject to nuclear attack after onset of any hostilities.
In
an attempt to intimidate all
defense counsel, Attorney Lynn Stewart was convicted of allegedly
transferring
messages from her "terrorist" client. Pathetic. In
Nazi
America. -- Sadly, another nail in the coffin of
liberty and
constitutional rights by increasingly fascist government.
The 9/11 Commission declassified a portion of its report indicating the FAA had indeed received 52 warnings, 5 alerts, and 2 hijack warnings involving al Qaeda and bin Laden prior to the 9/11 catastrophe. Yet, no one is responsible. No one. Why haven't all 9/11 Commission findings been made public? Who is being protected? Why?
In an outrageous attempt to limit victims' constitutional right to sue, the Senate voted to move most class action suits from state to federal courts. ... Where federal rules make it far more difficult to prevail. American Nazism at its worst.
Republicans,
along with a handful
of Democrat turncoats, are responsible for this egregious assault on
constitutional
rights. The very same fascists who supposedly champion
states' rights,
hypocritically now conspire to consolidate federal power. Sieg
Heil.
Eleven
Kuwaitis, captured in Pakistan
three years ago, were reportedly tortured by American troops at
Guantanamo.
They were hung by their ankles, beaten with chains, electrocuted, and
in
one case sodomized according to their attorney, Tom Wilner.
Reportedly,
all eleven were doing charitable work in Pakistan, teaching, at the
time
of their capture. Supposedly, non-combatants.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice continues to pressure Iran to give up its nuclear weapons program, threatening UN-imposed sanctions. From the viewpoint of Iran, why should they? Nearby neighbors, Pakistan and Israel, are nuclear powers.
While Pakistan poses no known threat to Iran, Israel does. Consider its history, backed financially and militarily through weapons exports by the United States. ... Our country believes Israel can do no wrong. -- Despite illegal use of these weapons, in direct violation of U.S. export law, to bomb highly-populated civilian areas in Palestinian territory. -- Despite failure to withdraw to pre-1967 borders.
Readers
will recall Israel bombed
an Iraqi nuclear facility over twenty years ago. ... A
"pre-emptive"
attack that occurred out of the middle of nowhere.
Unprovoked.
There is no question they'd strike Iran if they believed it, too, had
nuclear
weapons, -- or was about to.
...
An inference,"Vice President"
"Slick Dick" Cheney coyly made recently.
Dr.
Rice would be well-advised
to pressure all nuclear powers in the area to
disarm, including
Israel. Snowball's chance in hell, however, since in the
American
view, Israel can do no wrong. Interestingly, North Korea may
soon
become a more pressing problem. ... Especially, since it just
publicly
admitted for the first time, it does have nuclear weapons. --
An
admission reportedly made in secret months ago to American
authorities.
Worse, it claims it will not return to disarmament talks.
For crass political purposes during a highly contested election season, the "President" earlier deceptively lobbied Congress and seniors for passage of the Medicare prescription drug program. Mr. Bush knowingly and falsely claimed the cost would be approximately $400 billion the first ten years.
A government official was threatened with dire consequences of insubordination at the time, should he come forward with a figure far higher than that of the "President." Low and behold, turns out the true cost of the program is $724 billion, nearly twice that claimed by Bush and his inner circle.
Democrats are furious, disingenuously claiming they were duped. Hypocritical, though, since threats against the official were made public quite some time ago. ... Along with the fact the "President's" figures were deliberately underestimated. Why take so long to complain? Where were they at the time of passage?
Interestingly, both major political parties supported the prescription drug program, despite the fact it conveniently does not allow government to negotiate prices with pharmaceutical firms. Stunning, isn't it? Democrats now want the statute re-written. ... Again, what took so long? Hello?
In a related matter, members of both parties are calling for legalization of importation of pharmaceuticals from Canada and Mexico. ... The "President", siding with cronies in the drug industry, is strongly opposed. Imagine that. Mr. Bush falsely and disingenuously claims the FDA would be unable to guarantee "quality" of the imports. Is that so?
Pharmaceuticals
in question are
American-made,
still in their containers. ... Pharmaceuticals, priced
significantly
less overseas. The "President", however, sides with his good
friends
in the pharmaceutical industry who desperately wish to keep prices
artificially
inflated.
Israelis
& Palestinians Announce Ceasefire February
8, 2005
Israelis
and Palestinians, meeting
at a summit in Egypt, announced a ceasefire by both sides.
...
Think it'll last very long?
If history is any indication...
Remarkably, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice remained in Paris and did not attend. ... Either she doesn't think the agreement will last, -- or believes re-establishing American dominance and influence on recalcitrant Europeans is far more important.
Foolishly, Hamas has already stated it is not bound by the agreement. ... Sadly, only a matter of time before hostilities resume. Regardless, there can be no end to the war on terror until the United States becomes even-handed in its approach to the Middle East, reins in the Israelis, and declares independence from Arab oil. ... A snowball's chance in hell.
Ole' George "The Tush" submitted a record $2.57 trillion budget to Congress, that's trillion with a "t." Not surprisingly, it calls for reductions in vocational education spending, drug programs, and healthcare for the poor and veterans.
Instead of sticking it to "middlemen" such as supermarket chains with tax increases so large they couldn't afford to pass it on to consumers, the "President" has chosen to shaft farmers with a reduction in federal subsidies. -- Ensuring more families will leave the business, and mega-corporate farming and ranching operations will strangle the consumer.
The appropriation for the Defense Department stands at $419 billion, and does not include cost of the war. At the same time the "President" called for huge increases in defense spending and national "security," veterans will, again, "generously" receive a decrease in healthcare benefits from a "grateful" "President." ... As American as Mom and apple pie, no? ... Think this decrease will encourage retention and enlistment?
By statute, the federal government is obligated to hire 10,000 new border patrol agents over the next five years. ... For national "security" reasons, you understand. In the budget just submitted to Congress, however, Mr. Bush proposed funding 218. -- So much for border "security."
Mr. Bush called for an increase in commerce promotion expenditures to benefit small businesses, -- while, again, shafting military personnel the "President" is supposedly grateful to for their sacrifice. Also, tax breaks for big business and the rich continue unabated. Mr. Bush, the unabashed tax "reducer", is proposing increases in airline ticket prices to help pay for "security." "User fees," not taxes, you understand.
No question, the "President's" priorities and agenda couldn't be clearer. Bottom line? The tax burden will be reduced on the rich and big business, shifted to the middle class by requiring states, counties, and local municipalities to pick up the burden. Think local, county, and state taxes and "user fees" won't rise as a result? Has already happened over the last four years as federal taxes were reduced. Don't be surprised to see far, far more of the same.
Class warfare? Nothing less ... A war started by the greedy against the needy. ... 'Ain't' fascism grand? While the Right sees it as class warfare, the poor see it as class injustice. Perception is indeed in the eye of the beholder. -- The sucker who's gotten the shaft without the Vaseline has no problem knowing where it's been shoved. True genius is pulling it off without the sucker knowing he's been suckered, -- or caring. ... Then again, there is apparently no end to the aggressive stupidity of the American people, is there?
