Publisher's Note:  Despite a pleasantly surprising heavy increase in new readership since this site went back online in the middle of July after being down some two weeks due to an FTP server failure, there is still NO financial support of this publication by the community it serves.  None.  Worse, area businesses remain too cowardly to advertise.  ... Ironically, had consequently made the decision to leave Texas to set up a homestead further west, -- just prior to criminal deletions of other Ledger websites in late January, early February by Burnet County Deputy Bill Featherston.

Had this outrageously abusive "officer" and his equally criminal handlers patiently waited a few more weeks until the third anniversary of this publication last March, amusingly, they would have finally gotten their wish.  Now, this writer will remain indefinitely to see the legalities through to conclusion, mercilessly continuing to aggressively kick some serious ass figuratively on this website.  ... 'Ain't' life a bitch, Billy?  Although locally protected by Ole' Sam "The Sham" Oatman, can't be terribly comfortable or reassuring pondering final resolution at the civil or federal levels, right, "Officer"?  ... What's it like being on the receiving end for a change?

On a happier note, readers, like what you see here?  -- At least some of you must, coming back week after week.  Want The Ledger to survive?  Send a financial contribution to the P.O. Box listed above.  Also desperately need an additional laptop or desktop computer as back up to a generously reader donated factory refurbished failing Dell Latitude notebook currently being used.  -- Interestingly, a "refurbished" computer that didn't provide a year's service without developing severe problems.  ... Nothing quite like factory "quality", no?  If you have an unneeded unused machine gathering dust, kindly email or snail mail.  Also need a new place to park my well-kept self-contained motorhome.  If you know someone willing to donate space in return for keeping an eye on things, kindly email.

While conveniently accessing these webpages "free" of charge, never forget this publication remains non-profit and depends entirely on nearly non-existent community support.  At the same time, The Ledger is, has been, and will always remain beholden to NO ONE.  -- Precisely why there is no financial assistance.  Duh.  ... From day of launch and certainly a no-brainer to this very day, firmly resolved to walk away first rather than compromise principle.  -- To the chagrin of many and delight of few.  ... Tough, isn't it?  Right, Billy?   T.C.  8-4-02.

A Nazi "Jurist"

U.S. District "Judge" Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, July 31, rolled over to intense pressure from the "President" and Attorney General, ruling Guantanamo Bay "detainees" have no legal or constitutional rights.  None.  Conveniently declaring federal courts have no jurisdiction, apparently, this Nazi "judge" has never read the Bill of Rights.  -- The Founders must indeed be spinning in their graves.

In an effort to ensure no other federal court will hear similar cases, this outrageous fascist dismissed the suit "with prejudice".  Sieg Heil.  A contemporary Nazi, created in the image of Adolph Hitler and Benito Mussolini, took it upon herself to get in bed with an equally fascist, appointed "President" and Attorney General in an effort to eviscerate and bastardize constitutional rights afforded ALL subject to U.S. sovereignty and control.  -- As "detainees" are, under "jurisdiction" of the U.S. military.

For purposes of prosecuting terrorists, readers should recall naval ships, U.S. embassies, and other areas under direct U.S. control have conveniently been considered American "soil" for years and subject to court jurisdiction and prosecution.  In fact for over two decades, American territorial claims of "sovereignty" have conveniently been declared infinite by a highly constitutionally-questionable federal statute, and apparently currently extend throughout the universe.  Now, when "detainees" seek to utilize that long-established and extended "jurisdiction" to demand habeas corpus and the right to a hearing in front of a judge, they're denied.  … A glaring example of kangaroo justice and hypocrisy by a hopelessly corrupt and abusive court system.

The Nazi on the bench justified this glaring denial of constitutional rights, citing Supreme Court precedent dating back to World War II.  Sadly, the evisceration and bastardization of the Bill of Rights extends even further back, and has been a deliberate gradual erosion of rights and liberties by tyrants, -- in glaring opposition to intent of the Founders.  Sadly, our forebears severely warned against such dangerous encroachment, clearly to no avail.  The continuing erosion of rights and liberties sadly ensures the inevitability of revolution.

Identities Of 9/11 "Detainees" Ordered Released

In stark contrast to the above ruling against "detainees" held at Guantanamo Bay, U.S. District Judge Gladys Kessler ordered release of identities of all those arrested and detained in the United States since the September 11 catastrophe: "Unquestionably, the public's interest in learning the identities of those arrested and detained is essential to verifying whether the government is operating within the bounds of the law."  That's right, Judge.  Thanks for having the courage to so rule.  About time.

In response, lawsuit lead attorney Kate Martin declared: "The government may not arrest people in secret; the courts will stop government abuses; and the tragic events of September 11 may not be used as an excuse to suspend basic rights and round up the most vulnerable members of our society."  Can only hope so, Counselor.  Be interesting to see if the decision is held up on appeal.

Assistant Attorney General Robert McCallum, clearly not a happy camper, opined the decision, falsely and disingenuously whining it "impedes one of the most important federal law enforcement investigations in history, harms our efforts to bring to justice those responsible for the heinous attacks of September 11 and increases the risk of future terrorist threats to our nation."  Nonsense, Counselor.  Outrageous hyperbole severely distorts reality and conveniently exposes your not so subtle embrace of fascism to the light of day.

Justifying the "Administration's" glaring evisceration of civil liberties and rights since enactment of the "Patriot" Act, McCallum went on to crow the "Justice" Department "will be evaluating all options to protect the American public from future terrorist threats while preserving our constitutional liberties."  Unadulterated bullsh-t, Counselor.  Certainly haven't done so to date.  In fact, quite the opposite.  No question, the "Patriot" Act, additional unconstitutional Executive Orders, and other court action by fascist federal prosecutors since 9/11 scream otherwise.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Sen. Patrick Leahy asserted: "This decision puts the rule of law over the Justice Department's unilateralism. The judge properly observes that secret arrests are a concept odious to a democratic society."  That's right, Senator.  Still doesn't let your party off the hook for going along with the GOP and its passage of the glaringly unconstitutional "Patriot" Act.  Readers are reminded this fascist piece of legislation eviscerated the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, and Eighth Amendments to the Constitution.  … And was, and is, championed by our fascist "President" and his Nazi Attorney General.  No question, most Democrats have also gone along.

Kangaroo Justice

In a decision remarkably similar to what may have been expected in the Soviet Union or Nazi Germany, federal District Judge Emmet G. "Sullied" Sullivan ruled the government can continue to physically force accused killer Russell E. Weston Jr. to take anti-psychotic medication in a desperate effort to make the alleged murderer of two Capitol Police officers competent to stand trial.  How else can the government execute this deranged soul with a history of paranoid schizophrenia?  Sadly, as American as mom and apple pie.

No-Parent Families

While greedy Republicans and Democrats heartily slap each other on the back and hail welfare "reform" and its supposed stunning success, the chickens are finally coming home to roost.  Financially portly members of the GOP, including the jackass occupying the White House and his henchmen, disingenuously crow about the supposed decline in single-parent homes in the late '90's.  Unintended consequences of welfare reform, however, have finally unsurprisingly reared their ugly head.  Not only are adolescents suffering long-term effects of absent parents working long hours outside the home, there is an alarming increase in households that have no parents at all.  That's right, none.  … Kids are being raised by other family members or friends.  -- Who'd a 'thunk' it, no?  Could never happen, could it?  Certainly a tribute to GOP "family values" and priorities, no?

Both major political parties have had their heads shoved way up a bodily orifice seldom seeing the light of day.  For years.  The fascist element, indeed ranting and raving for welfare reform for decades, perceived a golden opportunity to line its exceptionally deep pockets.  -- While conveniently remaining cowardly and deafeningly silent regarding outrageous levels of corporate welfare, -- dwarfing AFDC by orders of magnitude.  Much of it buried deeply and hidden from exposure in clever appropriations to the greediest of the greedy.  Both parties benefit directly and indirectly from what amounts to corporate legalized theft.  Precisely why it never ends, is never challenged.

Yet, the poorest of the poor take it up the rump, -- without the Vaseline.  Had either major political party truly been interested in welfare reform, they would have first mandated a livable wage by federal statute.  The GOP, however, won't even acknowledge the need for a minimum wage, never mind a livable one.  How else can either party enrich itself without doing so off the backs of the poor and what amounts to indentured servitude?  … Little more than slavery?  It can't.  Economics has certainly become a zero-sum game, -- despite phony assertions to the contrary by financially portly fascists such as Rush Limbaugh.

The problem paying workers a livable wage is indeed sizeable, -- a large portion of small businesses would quickly fall flat on their face if forced to pay fair compensation for labor.  The effects would be substantive, immediate, and catastrophic,  -- many would go out of business.  Then again, they've existed to date on what amounts to be false pretenses and circumstances, -- not out of ingenuity or high quality of goods and services, but off the backs of workers who consequently could barely afford to eat and pay rent, never mind enjoy healthcare benefits or even basic amenities.

Why shouldn't these businesses have the right to fail?  Why are they falsely propped up, coddled, and protected?  Free enterprise and capitalism teaches and demands the unfettered right to succeed or fail, free of unwarranted and unjustified interference by government in that success or failure.  Precisely why corporate welfare and artificial government supports for small businesses are so damaging and ultimately unproductive.  Let Darwin's survival of the fittest play out its hand free of interference by government.  No question, new ventures would be quickly launched to replace those that fail.

The ultimate function of government is, however, or at least should be, protection of all its citizens.  All.  From foreign enemies certainly, but also from domestic ones such as violent criminals and white collar thugs who loot the masses, virtually with impunity.  … Whether that looting takes the form of shoddy and criminal business practices covered by deceptive trade act provisions, unjust compensation for labor, tax evasion, embezzlement, phony corporate accounting procedures and financial reports, etc., -- or a whole variety of other creatively illegal forms of theft.  … Indeed, if there's something to steal, someone will always figure out a way to do it.  Always.  Good government must continually stay ahead of the curve.

Extremely difficult.  Especially when there's no incentive, since government officials are too used to having their palms greased and getting their cookies off abusing authority.  Would require radical re-engineering of the business-government relationship. Change like that, however, doesn't come easily, Would call for the total overhaul of business and government.  Would amount to a revolution.  Worse yet from the viewpoint of fascists, would unacceptably result in the sharing of wealth with those who truly subsidize and generate all wealth.  -- The people on the bottom.  The true "philanthropists".  Those that receive very little of what they've rightfully earned.  Unlikely to ever happen, though.  … How else could the greedy laugh their financially portly asses off all the way to the bank, -- after getting down on bended knee every Sunday thanking God for THEIR great fortune?

The "President" is not a happy camper regarding recent welfare reform efforts in Congress, specifically changes demanded by Democrats in the Senate in the interest of fairness.  Ole' George shamelessly and disingenuously crowed  "I believe the bill is a retreat from success.  I believe they're not moving forward. I believe if the bill goes through the way they've written it, it's going to go back — we're going to go backward here in America. And the bill would hurt the very people we're trying to help."

"Help?"  How are you "helping", George?  Forcing them to work minimum wage jobs with no healthcare, childcare, or other basic amenities?  While you and your equally fascist henchmen laugh your portly asses off and piously give thanks?  If you're going to lie, sir, and outrageously distort reality, why not at least be a bit more creative? -- Or won't the Aryan arrogance allow it, Mr. "President"? Then again, to the Right, day is night, night is day, and manure smells sweet.

The GOP whines Democrats voiced similar concerns in 1996 for supposedly no valid reason, -- since welfare roles subsequently dropped in half.  Republicans, however, conveniently ignore the fact the 1996 statute craftily and exponentially increased the number of hoops required when seeking assistance.  -- To discourage as many qualified recipients as possible from applying.  When millions gave up and walked away in frustration, welfare opponents disingenuously and falsely proclaimed welfare reform a "success".  Dirty little secret?  The rich got richer and the poor poorer, consequently.  Exactly what greedy Republicans and Democrats desperately wanted.  Precisely why they ferociously oppose federal mandate of a livable wage, -- the only way to permanently solve the welfare problem.  Then again, don't confuse the fascist element with the truth.  They're too damned busy lining their pockets.

Regarding college attendance of welfare recipients in preparation for employment, Mr. Bush disingenuously phonily opined: "Now that's not my view of helping people become independent.  And it's certainly not my view of understanding the importance of work and helping people achieve the dignity necessary so they can live a free life, free from government control."  ... Bet it's not, Mr. "President".

Sadly, the jackass occupying the White House has revealed his true colors.  Ole' George wants recipients barefoot, pregnant, and ignorant, working minimum wage jobs with no chance of advancement, healthcare, childcare, or a future.  How else can he and others greedily line their pockets off the backs of the people on the bottom?  If they're no longer rock bottom, who will carry the load?  … Making it considerably harder indeed for money to defy common laws of physics and conveniently percolate upwards, -- to those least needing it.

... Indeed, one exceptionally desperate aim of fascism.  How else can the Aryan arrogant maintain their privileged position and power?
Working definition of fascism for new readers? An abusive and dangerous oligarchy based on a pernicious blend of government, big business, and religion. ... A boot-heel cynically placed on the throat of the masses, justified in principle by perversion and bastardization of religion.  Precisely, what's happened in the United States for at least the last thirty years.

… Hey, George?  What "dignity" and "freedom" is there in what amounts to no more than indentured servitude, slavery?  The fascist appointed to the White House cynically wants and expects the impoverished to trade their government masters for equally greedy and corrupt ones in the business community.  Yet, Mr. Bush and his equally fascist cronies in the Republican Party remain strongly opposed to federal mandate of a livable wage.  -- Falsely propping up small businesses and major corporations rather than championing the best interests of those truly responsible for creation of all wealth, the people on the bottom of the food chain.  Without their labor, there would be no wealth, no societal progress.  None.

Again, readers, carefully note the profound hypocrisy and desperation in the "President's" words: "I believe the bill is a retreat from success.  I believe they're not moving forward. I believe if the bill goes through the way they've written it, it's going to go back — we're going to go backward here in America. And the bill would hurt the very people we're trying to help."  Again, George, how in hell is shamelessly jabbing a knife in the back of the people on the bottom "helping", sir?  How?  How is it "helping" anyone other than you and your insatiably greedy cohorts?  How can single mothers with dependent children be expected and required to work additional hours with no childcare?  Are GOP "family values" indeed reserved only for the "haves", Mr. "President"?  … As you and your portly cohorts greedily laugh your asses off and count your cash?

The "Chief Executive" once again proved and clearly demonstrated "compassionate conservatism" to be no more than a crock of crap and sham, cynically and cleverly designed to line the pockets of the greediest of the greedy.  Kicker?  Ultimate  obscenity?  The "President" made his latest disparaging comments regarding Senate changes in welfare reform at a GOP luncheon fundraiser where portly Republican attendees paid $500 a plate and shelled out $10,000 for a picture with the Nazi appointed "President" by a fascist U.S. Supreme Court.  Sieg Heil, Mein Fuhrer.

Trade Authority

The Senate voted 64-34 to return presidential power to negotiate trade agreements, as passed by the House July 27.  Commerce Secretary Donald Evans crowed:  "This is a historic and great day for America."  No, Mr. Secretary, it's not.  Not by a long shot.  It only further allows the fascist, appointed "President" to further consolidate power and executive control.  In fact, a sad and tragic day for liberty and constitutional rights.  ... A day this country will indeed deeply regret.

"President" No Friend To Women's Issues

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved 12-7 the Convention On The Elimination Of All Forms Of Discrimination Against Women.  This treaty is designed to promote equality for what amounts to at least half our population.  -- The half that didn't even have the right to vote prior to 1920.  ...  And still egregiously subject to aggressive control and manipulation by the "Religious" Right.  The Bush "Administration", however, has little tolerance or interest in women's rights. Virtually none, as demonstrated by their outrageous indifference to the treaty, exceptionally poor treatment of women on welfare, glaring lack of support for family planning programs, as well as continuous and determined efforts to dictate to women what can and cannot be done with their uterus.  Cynically, the jackass occupying the White House asked the Senate panel to delay the vote, stating there are other pending treaties of far greater importance and the "Administration" needed more time to "review" the convention.  Wake up, ladies.  Dear Ole' George "The Tush" could care less about women's issues and apparently prefers you barefoot, pregnant, ignorant, and relegated to the kitchen.  … Despite a few token women in high Bush "Administration" positions.

"President" Will Not Enforce Federal Statute

To date, the "President" of the United States has refused to enforce the 1976 Arms Export Control Act.  Why? Ole' George "The Tush" and his henchmen do not wish to hamstring Israel with "legal technicalities".  The jackass appointed to the Oval Office put his hand on a Bible and swore to uphold the laws of the United States.  Apparently, his oath had as little substance as the man himself.

The Act forbids use of exported weapons for offensive purposes and requires the "Chief Executive" to report violations through the State Department to Congress for review.  Why hasn't Mr. Bush acted and faithfully executed the law?  As reported last week in this publication, an Israeli American-supplied F-16 was used to bomb an apartment building in a heavily-populated Palestinian area in a successful effort to assassinate a government official, an Hamas leader.  Fourteen innocent civilians, including nine children were killed in what was no more than a state-sponsored terrorist act resulting in assassination.

The law clearly stipulates all exported weapons must be strictly used for defensive purposes.  Assassination and state-sponsored terrorism resulting in the death of innocent civilians in a highly populated area are hardly the definition of self-defense.  The cowardly fighter pilot and his handlers are guilty of war crimes for the murders of 15 people.

The Bush "Administration" has made repeated statements regarding "targeting innocent civilians", "escalating the conflict", and "disproportionate use of force" in its admonitions to Israel regarding unacceptable military behavior.  The law is quite clear and so are "Administration" responsibilities and statements regarding Israeli military abuses.  At some point, there will be a lawsuit or some other court challenge. When will the jackass occupying the White House finally do his job and enforce the law?

Interestingly, the statute was last applied against Israel twenty years ago by the Reagan Administration after cluster bombs were used in its vicious invasion of Lebanon.  As asserted earlier on this website, Prime Minister Sharon led the murderous rampage.  His victims have been desperately trying to get this bloodthirsty barbarian tried for war crimes since.  The U.S., however, has done all it could to protect the criminal son of a bitch.

Now, it cowardly and conveniently looks the other way after its well-financed client-state successfully perpetrated an assassination by dropping what turned out to be a 1000 pound bomb in a highly populated area.  Indeed, a sad day when an American "President" hypocritically aids and abets state-sponsored terrorism, resulting in the deliberate murder of 14 innocent civilians and the assassination of a government official.  With impunity.

Glaringly, the "President's" criticism of terrorism is far from balanced and not equally directed at both sides.  While Mr. Bush soundly and pointedly condemned the most recent Hamas attack in revenge for the Israeli F-16 bombing atrocity and is "furious" and "mad", he offered nothing more than mild "condemnation" of the Israeli state-sponsored act of terror and assassination that resulted in the murder of 14 innocent civilians including 9 children.  Won't even consider cutting off all weapons supplied to a government clearly engaged in state-sponsored terrorism and assassination.  Pointedly, -- wouldn't be the American thing to do.

Buchanan Volunteer Fire Department
P.O. Box 825
Buchanan Dam, TX 78609

Dear Fire Department Supporter,

Generous support of your Fire Department assures that we are there when you need us with the right equipment and training.  We all think of our Fire Department when we think of fire, but your Department is also equipped to provide emergency support in other areas ranging from responding to hazardous material spills to removal of the injured in auto accidents.  A recent training exercise used the 'jaws of life' to provide entry to a severely damaged vehicle.

Your Fire Department is currently staffed by 14 volunteers who are on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week.  These members have jobs, family lives, social and civic responsibilities, and yet they manage to quickly respond to calls for aid regardless of time, day or night.  Your Firefighters need safe and effective equipment and training to continue to meet the expanding needs of our community.  Community population has increased by more than 54% between 1990 and 2000, and by another 16% between 2000 and 2002.

Through your support, and grant funding from LCRA, we have replaced our 1967 Pumper Truck with a much more capable 1987 Pierce Pumper.  We have also modified two surplus military vehicles to maintain and expand our brush truck inventory.  While we have upgraded our main Tanker in the last few years, our smaller 1969 Tanker is not reliable and requires replacement.

Our current planning includes replacing the old tanker, upgrading and expanding our breathing apparatus (for use in structure firefighting), and the addition of defibrillator capability.  Once again, we are requesting your assistance in meeting the needs of your Fire Department.  As always, we appreciate your contributions!

JUST THINK!  What if you had a fire and no one came?  We also have need of a few good people who are willing to help out their community.  We meet the first & third Thursdays of each month at 7:00 PM at the Fire Barn on Hwy 261.

FIRE DEPARTMENT BUILDING BURGLARIZED

Sometime between 10 PM Tuesday night, 5/21/02 and Thursday, 2 PM, 5/23/02 the fire station was broken into and over $4000 of equipment was taken.  If anyone has any information regarding this incident, please contact the Buchanan Fire Department, 793-9085 or contact the Sheriff's office in Llano.

Fraudulent Deletion Of Ledger Websites

A letter To Burnet County Sheriff Joe Pollock has been posted recently.  Access it by clicking here.

As promised, the letter of complaint sent to Burnet County Judge Martin McLean, regarding fraudulent Ledger Maxpages and Stormpages site deletions originating from the Burnet County Library System and resulting in the ejection of this writer from library computers, has finally been posted.  Readers are reminded this is not the end of the matter.  Just the beginning.  For ongoing coverage of the criminal attacks as well as the letter to the Judge sent in response, click here.

Klee's Kaleidoscope

Be sure to click on Klee's Kaleidoscope for Harvey Klee's latest edition.  This publication is a forum for a diversity of viewpoints. All are encouraged to submit material.

An Honest Business

A rare commodity, honest businesses need a plug.  Although this publication receives no financial remuneration or funding of any kind from Mike's Transmission, this writer has personally known the owner of this new business quite some time and has enormous respect for his integrity.  Mike has had years of experience working on transmissions, -- foreign and domestic, standard and automatic.  This guy has heart and takes enormous pride in his work.  Give him a call at 915-423-1694.  The business is in the process of being launched.  If you like the quality of service, let me know.  Better yet, ask him to send a donation to the Ledger.

Unbridled Fear

As strongly asserted in the last 66 editions, gut-wrenching fear generated by the Narcotics Enforcement Team is quite impressive. After all, these Nazi stormtroopers not only outrageously intimidate defendants and their gutless attorneys, but even innocent third parties who have suffered at their corrupt and abusive hands.

Recently, a source came forward with allegations regarding the death of a loved one under exceptionally curious circumstances. Sadly, the survivor got cold feet.

Most pointedly and quite publicly, how in hell do you expect these abuses to end if you don't have the guts to stand up and expose them to the light of day?

Every time a source cowardly runs the other way, the corrupt and abusive sons of bitches win. Every g-ddamned time. Worse yet, another nail is driven into the coffin of liberty.

If you don't have the courage to stand up and do the right thing, why should this writer continue to place himself in physical and legal jeopardy trying to expose the outrageous corruption and abuse?
