Time For New Leadership

Interestingly, Palestinian Authority Chairman Arafat is under enormous pressure not only from the U.S. and Israel, but from far more radical elements in the Palestinian community, including Hamas.  This terrorist organization and its spiritual leader, Sheik Ahmed Yassin, made it clear they do not want and will not accept an Israeli state.  Sharon quite shortsightedly and stupidly calls for deportation of Arafat, deluding himself the Palestinian leader to be the heart of the problem.  Clearly, not so.  Should Arafat be removed from power, a vacuum would be created leading to emplacement of far more radical and dangerous elements.

Interestingly, Arafat has always been a convenient target for Israel since more militant groups have been hard to penetrate, disrupt, and disable.  For two decades.  Worse, they refuse to genuflect to Israeli hardliners as Arafat frequently does when cornered.  Clearly to the advantage of the Israeli leadership, however, to find a way to make peace with moderate Palestinians rather than risk growing militancy and further hardening of Arab sentiments.

Severest and saddest problem in the Middle East is intransigence of aging leadership on both sides.  Sharon and Arafat are elderly battle-scarred veterans of years of bloody fighting.  Positions relentlessly hardened over time, leading to the current impasse.  A golden moment for younger people on both sides to take over and find a way to equitably resolve the conflict.

Clearly, Israel has the right to exist.  So does Palestine.  All land occupied since June 1967 must be returned.  Far more difficult is resolution of the sovereignty of Jerusalem.  As the center of three great world religions, the city must belong to all and no one in particular.  Until both sides finally see the wisdom of this and find a way to agree on implementation, the conflict will not end, --only worsen.

"President" Wins, Civil Rights Lose

Remember the appointment of Peter Kirsanow, a right-wing fascist, to the U.S. Commission On Civil Rights by the "President"?  Mr. Bush cleverly intended to slow down business of the Commission by seating this "conservative" Cleveland attorney.  Now, there'll be a fifty-fifty split, ensuring nothing gets done.  Mission accomplished, George.

The "Chief Executive" lost the first round in a lower court ruling.  An appeals court reversed it, conveniently allowing the jackass occupying the White House to set whatever little progress made recently on its ear.  Not surprising for the GOP, however.  These fascists do not recognize, accept, or care about ongoing egregious discrimination still glaringly existent in a nation going backwards after years of progress.  -- The "President" desperately eviscerating civil rights law any way he can.  Even attempting to reverse sex discrimination progress made over the last 35 years by calling for funding of single sex schools.  Glaringly enlightened, no?

Outrageously, "Presidential" Press Secretary Ari Fleischer falsely and disingenuously crowed: "The Bush administration is firmly committed to protecting civil rights for all Americans, and the Court of Appeals ruling will now allow the civil rights commission to move beyond the question of membership to get to the important business before it."  No, Mr. Fleischer, it won't.  In fact, quite the opposite, sir.  Sadly, in a country growing increasingly fascist, day is night, night is day, and manure smells sweet.  Right, Mr. "President"?

Cardinal Bernard Law

Sounding remarkably similar to Pontius Pilate and washing his hands of the child abuse scandal, Cardinal Bernard Francis Law claimed: "I relied upon those who assisted me in this matter to do all that was appropriate."  Is that right, Padre?  Is that why the abuse went on for so many years with your knowledge and apparent tacit approval, sir?  This outrageous excuse for a church leader could not recall much during questioning in a deposition.  Not surprising, is it?  … If you can't dazzle 'em with brilliance, baffle 'em with bullsh-t, right "Your Eminence"?  At the time of this writing, the Cardinal had only completed one day of interrogation.  Be interesting to see if and when attorneys finally take off the gloves.

Although a transcript of the first day's questioning was released, the Cardinal exercised his right to refuse release of the second day's proceedings for thirty days.  Reportedly, the Padre's intransigence continued.  Nothing quite like "Christian" charity, no?  Sadly, the suit is about principle and some semblance of justice, not money.  Had the Church aggressively attacked the problem years ago rather than sweeping it under the rug, victims would have had some sense of closure.  The Cardinal remains glaringly indifferent to ruined lives and continued suffering of those abused.  The "Christian" thing no doubt, right, Padre?

Maryland Death Penalty Suspended

Another state has suspended the death penalty, citing problems of fairness.  Maryland Gov. Parris N. Glendening ordered the moratorium stating: "It is imperative that I, as well as our citizens, have complete confidence that the legal process involved in capital cases is fair and impartial."   That's right, Governor.  Not only your state, but across the nation as well.

Texas is, without doubt, the most glaring example, however.  Readers will recall a woman who drowned five of her children was spared execution, but a man who shot and killed two of his was not.  Worse, is the growing number of condemned later found to be innocent years later after DNA testing.  It's time to end this extraordinarily barbaric penalty, -- still imposed only in one "civilized" country, the United States.

Amusingly, the "Religious" Right seeks to speed up the execution process, -- despite a growing number of prisoners exonerated by DNA evidence two decades after conviction.  Remarkably similar to cries for crucifixion by the "religious" community at Christ's hearing before Pilate, no?

"Mommy Issues"

The "President", responding to a change in thinking dictated by several recent polls, is stressing domestic issues, -- "Mommy Issues".  The "Chief Executive" apparently tacitly acknowledges he can't be "re-elected" on the war alone.  Amusingly as his predecessor, Ole' George "The Tush" feels "their pain".  Interesting, isn't it?  Commenting last Tuesday at the White House regarding families, Mr. Bush crowed: "I deeply hurt when there is a lack of hope for moms and dads of anybody — Palestinian moms and dads."  It bothers me to think there are some whose children are so hopeless they're willing to commit suicide."

First, the "President" glaringly cares little for American women and children, eviscerating welfare assistance and child care, while forcing impoverished mothers to work minimum wage jobs with no healthcare or provisions for their children.  … Outrageously and Aryan arrogantly urging them to marry, -- or at least cross their legs.  Amusingly, labeling it "compassionate" "conservatism", while laughing his financially portly ass off all the way to the bank.

Second, the jackass occupying the White House just doesn't "get it".  Palestinian bombers are precisely "so hopeless" because the "President" of the United States will not properly exercise his power, cowardly refusing to wield the $3 billion welfare stick on Israel and its increasingly barbaric "leaders" and military.  Although in no way excusing terror, Palestinians are fighting Israeli occupation the only way they think they can.

No Freedom Of Information

The "President" is still stonewalling release of public information regarding "Vice President" "Slick" Dick Cheney's energy task force.  -- This time blocking a subpoena for former top aide Andrew Lundquist.  … Should be frightening to a relentlessly aggressively stupid public.  Especially with energy prices skyrocketing as the "President's" cronies in the energy industry stick it to consumers.  Wake up friends.  You're being screwed.  As in '73 and '79.  Enjoy.

UN Children's Summit

Not surprisingly, the U.S. is dragging its feet on wording of a declaration to be signed at a UN children's summit.  Supporting the company line embraced by the fascist occupying the White House, U.S. Health Secretary Tommy Thompson insisted abstinence be the preferred approach to sex education.  -- Despite the fact it doesn't work, never has, and certainly never will.  … Don't confuse the Nazi element here with the truth.  -- Too intent on oversimplistic analysis and solutions to enormously difficult problems.

Such straight-jacketed thinking recently led to a breakdown in bankruptcy legislation currently considered by Congress.  GOP jackasses want restrictive amendments not in the best interest of abortion rights.  For a party supposedly supporting individual rights, Republicans remain intent on dictating what a woman can and cannot do with her uterus.  Outrageously, Thompson and his mentor in the White House insist on UN policy severely restrictive of abortion.  … Despite the fact abortion remains legal in the United States.  What we have here is an appointed U.S. "President" imposing his "religious" views not only on Americans, but the world community as well.  Aryan arrogance.

Federal Deficit

With an annual federal budget currently estimated at some $2.1 trillion, the current projected deficit is $121 billion.  -- That's trillion with a "t" and billion with a "b".  Despite such staggering numbers, the jackass occupying the White House and his equally fascist cronies insist on making last year's tax cuts permanent.  Pork and war profiteering remain glaring obstacles to responsible spending.  Tax revenues are drastically down.  War expenses soaring.  Both parties are intransigent and no more than two sides of the same coin.

Televangelist Pat Robertson

Succumbing to pressure from his followers, televangelist Pat Robertson is selling his interests in thoroughbred horse racing.  -- Too involved in a sport driven by gambling, apparently.  His supporters ought to consider dear Ole' Pat's reported involvement in the African diamond mining industry.  An industry highly abusive of human rights and glaringly murderous.

Israeli Settlers Arrested

To its credit, Israeli authorities arrested two settlers April 28 on suspicion of plotting to blow up a large bomb adjacent to a school and Arab hospital in Jerusalem.  Yarden Morag and Shlomo Dvir were nailed while unhitching a trailer from a vehicle.  Police found explosives.  After further investigation, an additional two men were arrested.  Be interesting to see final disposition, but certainly encouraging Israeli officials are finally willing to take action against some of their own.  Regardless, Israeli military personnel involved in brutal atrocities against Palestinians remain immune to prosecution.

"Patriot" Act Challenged

"Patriot" Act eavesdropping authority on attorney-client communications is finally being challenged in court.  Attorneys for convicted 1998 East Africa embassy bomber Mohamed al-'Owhali have filed suit.  Defense attorney Fred Cohn declared: "The whole thing is intended to chill the attorney-client relationship, and it does."  Damn right.  In violation of constitutional rights.  Be interesting to see the ruling.  Probably be appealed no matter which way it goes.  -- Further evidence of a growing fascist police state and Nazification of government at all levels.

"Don't Do As I do, Do As I Say"

GOP henchmen hypocritically crow "personal responsibility", yet accept none.  Former President Clinton was skewered for indiscretions by Republican partisans during the Monica Lewinsky scandal.  Ironically, these very same bastards are engaged in the same or worse behavior.  Example?  Former Speaker of the House Newt "The Coot" Gingrich.

While married to former wife Marianne Gingrich, Ole' Newt banged the hell out of a congressional aide on  his office desk.  Reportedly, repeatedly.  In 1999, Mr. Gingrich finally admitted a seven-year affair with former congressional aide Callista Bisek and filed for divorce from his wife of some 19 years.  "The Coot" went on to marry Ms. Bisek and has remained married to her since.

Now, the former congressman has inexplicably filed for an annulment of his former marriage with Catholic Church authorities.  Marianne Gingrich publicly asserted: "We were married 19 years, and now he wants to say it didn't exist."  Duh.  Fascinating, isn't it?  Particularly so, since Catholicism apparently played no part in the former congressman's marriage according to Ms. Gingrich.  Interesting as well is the fact they were married in a Lutheran church.

Ole' Newt has been married three times.  Two divorces, quite messy.  -- "The Coot" going so far as presenting divorce papers to one of his former concubines while she was in recovery after cancer surgery.  … Nothing quite like "Christian" "love" and "charity", no?  Warms the cockles of the heart, doesn't it?

Death Penalty Eligibility

In the convoluted "logic" of the fascists occupying the "Justice" Department, Zacarias Moussaoui is eligible for the death penalty for not incriminating himself when questioned about his reasons for taking flight lessons.  Moussaoui was incarcerated at the time of the 9/11 catastrophe and did not participate.  Since he claimed to have taken the lessons for "personal enjoyment" and would not admit criminal culpability, the Nazi Attorney General and cronies in the DOJ think he should be executed if found guilty.  Fifth Amendment?  What the hell's that?  In the world of the fascist, day is night, night is day, and manure smells sweet.  Right, Johnny?  Sieg Heil.

Fraudulent Deletion Of Ledger Websites

As promised, the letter of complaint sent to Burnet County Judge Martin McLean, regarding fraudulent Ledger Maxpages and Stormpages site deletions originating from the Burnet County Library System and resulting in the ejection of this writer from library computers, has finally been posted.  Readers are reminded this is not the end of the matter.  Just the beginning.  For ongoing coverage of the criminal attacks as well as the letter to the Judge sent in response, click here.

Unbridled Fear

As strongly asserted in the last 54 editions, gut-wrenching fear generated by the Narcotics Enforcement Team is quite impressive. After all, these Nazi stormtroopers not only outrageously intimidate defendants and their gutless attorneys, but even innocent third parties who have suffered at their corrupt and abusive hands.

Recently, a source came forward with allegations regarding the death of a loved one under exceptionally curious circumstances. Sadly, the survivor got cold feet.

Most pointedly and quite publicly, how in hell do you expect these abuses to end if you don't have the guts to stand up and expose them to the light of day?

Every time a source cowardly runs the other way, the corrupt and abusive sons of bitches win. Every g-ddamned time. Worse yet, another nail is driven into the coffin of liberty.

If you don't have the courage to stand up and do the right thing, why should this writer continue to place himself in physical and legal jeopardy trying to expose the outrageous corruption and abuse?
