Before continuing with the September 11 catastrophe, readers may find
the following article on one of our Commissioners entertaining.
*****Precinct 2 Commissioner Keith Faulkner*****
Ran into Precinct 2 Commissioner Keith Faulkner earlier in the
week. Readers will recall Ole' Keith had recently been skewered once
again in an earlier edition. ... Like an old Timex watch he takes a
lickin' and keeps on tickin'. Immensely enjoy running into the
Commissioner though, since he always graciously and unwittingly
provides fodder. Conversations are always comically surreal since we
never discuss anything negative published about him. ... Guess he knows
he'd lose once again in direct verbal combat as did his crony JP2 "The
Judge" Duane Nobles several weeks ago during an open records meeting.
... Not since this writer has any particularly great verbal skills,
however, but because our damned officials are shamelessly corrupt,
abusive, and have no defense.
Much of what Ole' Keith provides in terms of "information" is
inaccurate and great fodder. Other nuggets of inspiration have provided
useful insight into how our fearless leadership thinks. Many of you may
have fantasized being the proverbial fly on the wall during our
encounters, -- especially since not everything discussed is published.
A few remarks would have indeed made great material for this website.
Then again, wouldn't want the Commissioner to gather his marbles, so to
speak, walk off in a huff, and stop generously providing comic relief
every now and then.
Ole' Keith, despite being a Good Old Boy, has considerable charisma and
is an interesting character. As I've repeatedly told Henry Parker, the
Commissioner is not going to be an easy incumbent to retire. Without
question, he puts a considerable amount of time into his "job" and
certainly looks out for number one. Being the consummate politician, he
is slick, indeed a master of pulling the wool over the eyes of his
constituents. Along with Precinct 3 Commissioner Duane Steuven, County
Attorney Cheryll Mabray, and County "Judge" J.P. Dodgen, Mr. Faulkner
is directly responsible for the ejection of this writer from the Llano
County Library System for publishing The Llano Ledger.
Readers are reminded there is no First Amendment in Llano County. Our
corrupt and abusive officials do what they want and have absolutely no
regard or respect for the Bill of Rights and rest of the Constitution.
Remember? This County is a hellhole sixty years behind the times. Of
course there is a steep price to be paid, and these officials are
certainly paying it continuously in this publication. -- And will
continue to. Ole' Keith, as always at each public encounter, is offered
unlimited and unedited space to respond every time his ass is skewered
on this website. Clearly, he doesn't have the guts. Besides, what the
hell can he say in response to the truth?
*****Bush Speech*****
Ole' George put on a command performance Thursday evening,
September 21 in front of Congress and the nation, didn't he? No
question, the speech was well-written by speech writers and carefully
rehearsed. The "President" indeed looked sharp. 95% of the public
bought it hook, line, and sinker according to polls. Not surprisingly,
the "Chief Executive" conveniently ignored the glaring failure of the
"intelligence" community, despite the expenditure of billions. Airport
security? What the hell's that? Even-handedness in the Middle East?
Whatever for? After all, we do what we want to do, don't we? We're
Americans.
Palestinian homes bulldozed and lives lost at an 8 or 9 to 1 kill
ratio courtesy of American supplied jets and choppers? Not a problem,
right? The "President" could care less. What is stunning is the fact
the governed refuse to challenge inept, corrupt, and abusive
government. ... Of course a few are beginning to speak up and
peacefully question the fiasco. Precisely why the "President" is
anxious to start the "festivities" overseas before the American people
finally wake up. Interestingly, Ole' George has tempered vengeance
rhetoric over the last few days. ... Can't afford to look too extreme,
can he?
The "President" has no stated timetable, no precise definition of
victory, no end-game plan. Contrary to military philosophy wisely
changed after the Vietnam boondoggle. Now, we're looking at fighting an
enemy difficult to find and easily identify with nebulous, undefined
goals, -- other than the rooting out and destruction of terrorism
wherever it lies. What is particularly disturbing is the unquestioned
acquiescence of the American people. "The Tush" and his cronies have
already stated and/or implied much of this "war" will be secretly
waged. The media has deliberately been kept in the dark, yet also
remains unquestioning, abdicating its responsibility to inform. ...
Think that will continue as body bags return?
Where's the accountability? Almost forgot. "Responsibility" only
applies to the unwashed masses. Not glib, corrupt and abusive officials
as well as their shills. Freedom of speech? What the hell's that?
Already reporters and others such as Bill Maher, host of Politically
Incorrect, have apologized for comments made that elicited strong
criticism from viewers and sponsors. Apologizing for what? The truth?
Can't have that, now, can we? Pointedly, where is the outrage of the
American people to murderous bigotry directed at Arab-Americans? Isn't
that a hell of a lot more important than a politically incorrect
comment made by a reporter or commentator? Apparently, not. Americans
cannot understand why we're so hated in some areas of the world. It's
not jealousy of our riches or power. It's the Aryan arrogance. The
glaring lack of even-handedness. ... More pointedly, what has
colloquially become known as the "Ugly American."
*****Civil Liberties*****
Congressman and senators from the Left as well as Right are
beginning to question legislation requested by the "President" and
Attorney General designed to egregiously infringe on privacy and civil
liberties. About time. Hopefully, they will carefully consider how
dangerous the Fascist Right has become in its zeal to trade liberty for
"security". Sadly, Bush and Ashcroft are a greater danger to freedom
than anything bin Laden and his criminal thugs have to offer.
Outrageously, the "Chief Executive" and his sidekick are taking
advantage of an horrendous catastrophe to advance their fascist agenda.
Should they be successful, the terrorists will have won. The enemy will
have become our own government. Precisely why this writer is so
strongly opposed to any further evisceration of civil and
constitutional rights and liberties, indeed preferring death at the
hands of terrorists over the loss of liberty.
The United States is truly the greatest nation the world has ever seen.
To remain so, we can never forget who and what we are as well as where
we came from. -- The tremendous sacrifice of so many who have gone
before us. I can still remember as a kid growing up in the fifties the
impact the Second World War had on our generation. Will never forget
movies and articles produced years after the war ended. One image
having tremendous impact was the photograph of our soldiers raising the
flag victoriously on a strategically critical island after one hell of
a fight and loss of life... To see New York firefighters doing the same
in a remarkably similar fashion in the rubble of the recent catastrophe
is indescribable.
While the "President" is quite correct to go after bin Laden and his
cronies, it is critical our mission be one of justice, not revenge.
Otherwise, we'll be perceived by the world as no better. Hopefully,
Ole' George is doing what has to be done for the right reasons and not
only political expediency. Time will tell. A carefully crafted and
rehearsed speech is no window to the "President's" soul. ...
Particularly, since Mr. Bush has demonstrated no substance prior to the
latest crisis. Wisely, however, he has managed to surround himself with
capable people. Not clear yet, whether he or his father is responsible
for that. History will certainly provide enlightenment as time passes.
Regardless, Mr. Bush will have his hands full as body bags return.
Since he appears unwilling to adjust policy to a more even-handed
approach in the Middle East, the killing will quite likely continue
even if he is successful in rooting out bin Laden and others. While the
"President" appears intent on further eviscerating civil liberties, it
will come at a terrible price. Hopefully, the people will wake up
before it is indeed too late.
*****Media About-Face*****
Amazing how quickly the media marched in goosestep with the
"Administration" after the September 11 catastrophe, isn't it? Not
surprising to this writer, however, since the press has been well right
of center for quite some time. An article in The Washington Times led
to the following e-mail exchange with Times reporter Jennifer Harper:

The Washington Times
Dear Ms. Harper:
In response to your 'Bush's Press Detractors Reveal Sudden About-Face'
article dated September 18, you are quite correct the media has
indeed gotten into bed with the "President." ... So much for the
supposedly "liberal" media, no? In reality, news organizations
are considerably right of center, -- and have been for quite some
time. Hasn't stopped the Fascist Right from whining for the last decade though.
Although an avid reader of your publication, fortunately most newspapers
do not so strongly embrace the Right as does _ The Washington Times.
Respectfully, better wait until body bags return before shamelessly
gloating regarding the supposed about-face of the media in its criticism
of a "President" appointed by a fascist Supreme Court. ... Otherwise,
you may be wiping egg off your face.
Pointedly, there is no longer any substantive difference between
the Democratic and Republican Parties. Willingness of Democrats
to accept new wiretapping statutes infringing on civil liberties
is certainly one glaring example. Sadly, there are many others.
The recent warm embrace of Mr. Bush by the vast majority of the
media is quite indicative of just how right of center the press
is indeed. While mainstream media may in fact be no more than
shills for an incompetent inept appointed "President", some of us,
including this politically independent maverick, have steadfastly
stood up to this egregious embarrassment and excuse for a "Chief Executive."
The enclosed is an excerpt from the September 17, 2001 edition of
_The Llano Ledger highly critical of Mr. Bush and his cronies.
While style, approach, language, and tone are offensive and designed
to rattle the cage, this website offers an alternative view glaringly
ignored by newspapers such as yours. Regardless of our political
differences Ms. Harper, indeed, I wish you and your publication
well, and look forward to many years of accessing _The Times website.
Sincerely,

Thanks for your message, and for the editorial. The media situation
changes day to day; thanks for reading....

*****An Unbiased Media?*****
The Fascist Right certainly does not tolerate political dissent.
Fox News commentator Brit Hume lambasted the Socialist Left,
particularly the academic community for being un-American in its rising
dissent to the "President's" "war on terror". Interesting, isn't it?
Hey, Brit? Since when has it become un-American to question authority?
The Founders certainly did, and must indeed be turning in their graves
at your egregious ignorance.
Even those of us who support the killing or capture of bin Laden and
his cronies have grave reservations about Mr. Bush's intentions. With
no precise goals or end-game plan, one has to be extremely concerned
whether the "President" will know when it is time to declare victory
and end hostilities. Especially, since he has outrageously stressed
vengeance as opposed to justice in comments made since the September 11
attack.
Fascists like Mr. Hume should clearly understand there is no way the
Left or Center is going to remain silent and give a Supreme Court
appointed "Chief Executive" carte blanche to do as he pleases. While
apparently 95% of the population is willing and able to march in
goosestep with "Die Fuhrer", not all of us will. No question, public
opinion will change as the war is prosecuted and casualties mount. Mr.
Bush should clearly kill or capture bin Laden and root out the network,
but go no further.
For the sake of political expediency, the "President" will sorely be
tempted to indiscriminately bomb as political pressure and the body bag
count increases. The wanton killing of innocent civilians, however,
will be counterproductive and demonstrate to the world we are no
better. Mr. Hume, however, is glaringly unapologetic for the terrorism
displayed by Israel against the Palestinians. Interesting, isn't it?
"Don't do as I do, do as I say", right, Brit? This outrageous jackass
does not understand terrorism will remain alive and well, no matter the
war effort, should the United States continue its glaringly
uneven-handed approach to the Middle East.
Then again, the Fascist Right, as represented by Mr. Hume and his ilk,
only see things in terms of black and white. No degrees of gray, or
shades of color. Worse yet, they merely offer oversimplistic solutions
to extremely complex problems.
... Then, arrogantly wonder why the United States is hated in the
Middle East and elsewhere. ... Brit? Wake up, sir. Adolph and Benito
would have been proud, you jackass.
*****Perfection*****
Typographical errors drive you nuts? Been a problem for many area
publications, including this one. ... Especially since there is no
spell check function in the software provided by Maxpages. Being a
speed reader, it is also extremely difficult to proof-read one's own
material.
Compounding the problem is the limitation of the software itself. After
over two years of effort looking for a way around this perpetually
nagging problem however, a solution has finally been found. ... A
round-about way of finding most errors without use of a proof-reader.
Some of you may have noticed earlier editions being updated. Only
typographical errors are being corrected, however. -- Not substance.
Fortunately, there were far fewer errors than expected. Usually one or
two per edition so far.
... Extremely painful though, for a perfectionist. All joking aside,
typographical accuracy is important and every effort is made to ensure
it.
*****Unbridled Fear*****
As strongly asserted in the last 21 editions, gut-wrenching fear
generated by the Narcotics Enforcement Team is quite impressive. After
all, these Nazi stormtroopers not only outrageously intimidate
defendants and their gutless attorneys, but even innocent third parties
who have suffered at their corrupt and abusive hands.
Recently, a source came forward with allegations regarding the
death of a loved one under exceptionally curious circumstances. Sadly,
the survivor got cold feet.
Most pointedly and quite publicly, how in hell do you expect these
abuses to end if you don't have the guts to stand up and expose them to
the light of day?
Every time a source cowardly runs the other way, the corrupt and
abusive sons of bitches win. Every g-ddamned time. Worse yet, another
nail is driven into the coffin of liberty.
If you don't have the courage to stand up and do the right thing, why
should this writer continue to place himself in physical and legal
jeopardy trying to expose the outrageous corruption and abuse?
