BANNER AND POP-UP ADVERTISING PAYS ONLY FOR WEBSITE

*****As repeatedly and strongly asserted on both Ledger websites, this publication receives NO compensation from Maxpages nor the advertisers. None. Banner and pop-up advertising pays ONLY for the website itself, -- a "free" website. People still mistakenly think there is compensation. ... How do I make it any clearer???

The clock is ticking...*****

*****Closet Bigotry*****

"There is considerable good news emanating from the century-old struggle of the United States against racism and bigotry," crowed Ralph Boyd Jr. of the Justice Department. Boyd is a former prosecutor and the new Director of the Civil Rights Division. He presented this highly distorted view held by the Bush "Administration" in Geneva in a report to a United Nations group that monitors discrimination. Not surprisingly, it immediately came under attack by human rights groups. Sadly, Boyd has his head securely lodged up his ass, and is no more than a shill for the "President" and his cronies. ... Certainly, should walk the streets of the inner cities and consult with civil rights activists struggling for years to combat the worst kind of racism, -- closet bigotry. Apparently, this dolt has been listening too long to fascists like Rep. J.C. Watts and the propaganda of others like him.

*****Welfare Reform*****

Amazingly, the Socialist Left and Fascist Right continue to argue whether 1996 welfare reform legislation or the booming economy led to massive reductions of women from welfare rolls. Who the hell cares? What is important, however, is the fact the legislation decimated welfare. It made it extremely difficult for anyone to qualify for cash payments, food stamps, and other benefits. We're already seeing the ramifications as Medicaid continues to go broke in the State of Texas and elsewhere. Worse yet, food banks can't keep up with demand. Adolescent children of dumped welfare recipients reportedly are beginning to show the effects of mothers forced to return to work at non-liveable wages. -- While the Fascist Right continues to pontificate "personal responsibility" and laugh its portly ass off all the way to the bank. Be interesting to see how things develop as more women reach their five-year lifetime welfare limit, -- as juvenile crime continues to climb.

*****Juries Out Of Control?*****

For years, fascists in the GOP have whined jury awards are out of line. While there may be a handful of exceptions, a comprehensive study of some 9,000 trials nationwide, conducted by Cornell professors Theodore Eisenberg and Martin T. Wells and three analysts from a Williamsburg, Va. independent research firm called the National Center For State Courts, indicates otherwise. Juries award damages quite similarly to judges and in generally the same proportions.

Interestingly, both award punitive damages in approximately only 4% of plaintiff-won cases according to the study to be published in the Cornell Law Review next March. Statistics generated indicate juries are not out of control as repeatedly asserted by Republicans more interested in protecting their cronies in Corporate America than acting in the best interests of the unwashed masses. For the handful of extreme jury-awarded punitive damages cases, judges reduce most to more reasonable amounts.

*****Beazley Execution*****

Later this month and in a savage act of vengeance, the State of Texas in the name of the people will lawfully murder Napoleon Beazley, 25. This human piece of excrement shot and killed John Luttig in Tyler back in 1994. There is no question of his guilt, and he has taken responsibility for this horrendous crime. The victim was the father of federal appeals court Judge J. Michael Luttig, a prominent "conservative" legal theorist. The younger Luttig was formerly a law clerk for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, arguably the most fascist member of the Court. Both are bosom buddies ideologically, and Scalia has indeed recused himself.

What makes this case so unusual? Beazley was 17 at the time of the murder. Too young to vote, drink, smoke, own property, etc.. Yet, the state is about to execute a man who was a child at the time of the crime. Adolph and Benito would have been proud. Sadly, the U.S. is the last "civilized" nation to inflict capital punishment and, worse yet, callously insists on executing inmates who were children at the time of the crime. What's next, friends? Shall we cut off the hands of thieves as done in the Middle East?

*****HUD Wants Reimbursement From Cheats*****

HUD is demanding 54 police officers and teachers repay some $1.2 million looted from federal coffers for a program that helped these "upstanding" individuals buy homes in low-income neighborhoods. -- At half price. Some 5,700 officers and 1,500 teachers participated in the program to date. Twenty percent, however, violated the rules, such as not living there for at least three years, selling, renting, or abandoning them, etc.. Approximately ten officers have already pleaded guilty to fraud and another 14 have been indicted. Nothing quite like honor or integrity, is there?

*****Freeh Spared Ruby Ridge Censure*****

Justice Department officials whitewashed an internal inquiry recommending former FBI Director Louie Freeh be censured for the 1992 Ruby Ridge debacle. ... Nothing quite like the "Good Old Boy" system, is there? Readers are reminded FBI sniper Lon Horiuchi blew Vicki Weaver's head off as she held an infant in her arms. The couple's 14-year-old son was shot and killed, -- in the back by federal officers. No one has been held accountable for either murder. ... As American as mom and apple pie, no?

*****Drunken Police Officer Kills*****

New York Police Officer Joseph Gray spent at least five hours at a topless club drinking before taking off in his vehicle to go to work. On the way, he killed three innocent people and has been charged with multiple counts of reckless endangerment, reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, manslaughter, and vehicular manslaughter. This prince of a man was suspended from the force and had remained free on personal recognizance until the public stink grew too much for a corrupt and abusive judiciary. Had it happened to anyone else, he would have been promptly strung up by his nuts. Yet there was no bond requirement until days after the arrest. Interesting, isn't it?

... Gray indeed had some company while drinking at the topless club and then later in a police parking lot before taking off for work. At the time of this writing, five fellow officers were suspended and seven others were placed on desk duty. ... Nothing quite like the Good Old Boys, no? In addition, the precinct commander, executive officer, integrity control officer, and two sergeants were transferred.

*****California Supreme Court Reinforces Second Amendment*****

That's right. The California Supreme Court ruled gunmakers cannot be sued by victims when their products are illegally used. How about that? What a novel idea, no? How in hell can gun manufacturers be held responsible for someone else's criminal behavior? The ruling vacated an appellate ruling outrageously allowing them to be sued by victims of criminals brandishing weapons. Time for the Left to finally wake up, particularly socialists like New York Sen. Charlie Schumer who apparently has yet to read the Second Amendment.

*****States' Rights*****

GOP fascists have long crowed about states' rights and have pledged to get the federal government out of the way. Yet, when push comes to shove, Bush "Administration" officials intend to ask Congress for authority to commandeer the approval process for the construction of new power transmission lines should the states not quickly act and do the "President's" bidding. ... Apparently, Republicans not only talk from both sides of the mouth, but out the ass as well.

*****Computer Surveillance*****

Egregious loss of privacy has apparently hit home with those most responsible for enforcing Fourth Amendment rights. Judges, in the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, disabled security software designed to monitor their computer activity. Interestingly, these jurists asserted the monitoring was unethical and illegal. H-E-L-L-O? The American Management Association claims 63% of corporations routinely monitor the use of their employees' computers. ... What's good for the goose is good for the gander, no?... Adolph and Benito would have been proud.

*****IRS Commissioner Ethics Waiver*****

IRS Commissioner Charles Rossotti received an ethics waiver allowing him to keep stock in an information technology company he co-founded and still participate in decisions regarding future IRS business with that company. Convenient, isn't it? The Commissioner will apparently do what he can to aid and abet the best interests of American Management Systems Inc.. Where the hell is the outrage of the "President"? Apparently, Ole' George "The Tush" Bush could care less. Then again, the "Chief Executive" "takes care of his own", no? Nothing quite like conflicts of interest or abusive government, is there?

*****U.S. Offers China $34,567 For EP3 Fiasco*****

That's right. "President" George "The Tush" Bush and his cronies have offered the Chinese $34,567 for "support" costs for salvage of the EP3 severely damaged by a Chinese fighter on April 1. ... April Fools' Day, -- and the American people were certainly suckered by our Supreme Court-appointed "Chief Executive". ... Nothing quite like rubbing a little salt into the wound, right, Mr. "President"? Apparently, Ole' Sen. Jesse Helms, arguably one of the most fascist members of the Senate, has finally found his voice and criticized the offer. ... Way to go, Jesse. Once in awhile you get it right, don't you, sir?

*****Bush Decries Congress*****

Ole' George is quite unhappy with Congressional foot-dragging on his faith-based initiative. Complaining at a photo-op conveniently staged at a Habitat For Humanity project, the "President" crowed "There's great debate in Washington about the process, the legalities of the initiative. What my administration talks about is the results of the initiative." Exactly, George, and that's the problem, sir. The ends don't justify the means, -- despite your determined effort to suggest otherwise. Separation of church and state is indeed guaranteed by the First Amendment.

Wake up, Mr. "President". An abusive and dangerous oligarchy based on a pernicious blend of government, big business, and religion is quite un-American. -- Sorely indicative of early Nazi Germany, however. While there is certainly nothing wrong with leading an intensely spiritual life, devastating injustice occurs when mindless zealots like you disingenuously attempt to force their beliefs on others. ... As fellow fascist cronies of yours feverishly attempt to blatantly establish Christianity as the state religion in violation of the First Amendment. -- The true reason your "Administration" is determinedly hell-bent on imposing an unconstitutional faith-based initiative.

Interestingly, Rev. Joe Carbajal of Windy Hills Interdenominational Church in Waco uttered the following prayer at the festivities: "I want to thank you, Lord, for a president that will stand up and declare biblical principles on a daily basis." This blatantly arrogant minister has apparently never read the U.S. Constitution. With all due respect, Reverend, the United States is NOT a theocracy, despite your outrageously self-righteous, pompous attitude.

We are a people of many different faiths and in some cases, none at all. Any president, who stands up and declares "biblical principles on a daily basis" during performance of his duties as chief executive, has blatantly violated his oath of office. Most pointedly, sir, the First Amendment demands separation of church and state, -- freedom of religion as well as freedom FROM it. Sadly, the "President" has crossed the line with his unconstitutional faith-based initiative.

*****Gutless Stem Cell Decision By "President"*****

Determined to prove he's indeed doing something during a 30-day vacation, Ole' George commandeered 15 minutes of air-time to gutlessly announce he's going to approve limited federal spending on stem cell research. Interestingly, he's successfully angered both sides by straddling the fence. ... Certainly outrageous the dolt would have the power to unilaterally make such a decision, however, -- a decision that would have been far better left to members of the House and Senate. The "President" indeed has good speech writers at his beck and call, nonetheless.

Regarding substance, moreover, Ole' George has once again imposed his moral and/or religious beliefs on others strongly in disagreement. ... All part of the fascist agenda, right, Mr. "President"? Sadly, the "decision" is further evidence of an extremely shallow man who is only placating supporters in the Religious Right. Glaringly aggressively stupid. Especially in light of the fact the medical community will continue to generate embryos in far greater number than needed for implantation, -- regardless of whether or not federal dollars are spent on stem cell research. Then again, can't expect a dolt to truly comprehend the obvious, can we?

*****Klee's Kaleidoscope*****

Be sure to click on 'Kaleidoscope' in the Table of Contents. Harvey Klee has submitted an interesting article on Llano Regional Emergency Services Association (LRESA), a group opposed to the privatization of the Llano County EMS system.

*****"Outkry"*****

Llano County resident and musician Gary Delz has launched a new webpage on his band website dedicated to exposure of problems within Llano County government and civic organizations. Mr. Delz is a former police officer who is tired of abusive law enforcement. The Llano Ledger is supportive of any and all who are courageous enough to expose government corruption. Be sure to access http://www.powertrio.com and click OUTKRY on the table of contents.

*****Perfection*****

Typographical errors drive you nuts? Been a problem for many area publications, including this one. ... Especially since there is no spell check function in the software provided by Maxpages. Being a speed reader, it is also extremely difficult to proof-read one's own material.

Compounding the problem is the limitation of the software itself. After over two years of effort looking for a way around this perpetually nagging problem however, a solution has finally been found. ... A round-about way of finding most errors without use of a proof-reader.

Some of you may have noticed earlier editions being updated. Only typographical errors are being corrected, however. -- Not substance. Fortunately, there were far fewer errors than expected. Usually one or two per edition so far.

... Extremely painful though, for a perfectionist. All joking aside, typographical accuracy is important and every effort is made to ensure it.

*****Unbridled Fear*****

As strongly asserted in the last fifteen Newsletters, gut-wrenching fear generated by the Narcotics Enforcement Team is quite impressive. After all, these Nazi stormtroopers not only outrageously intimidate defendants and their gutless attorneys, but even innocent third parties who have suffered at their corrupt and abusive hands.

Recently, a source came forward with allegations regarding the death of a loved one under exceptionally curious circumstances. Sadly, the survivor got cold feet.

Most pointedly and quite publicly, how in hell do you expect these abuses to end if you don't have the guts to stand up and expose them to the light of day?

Every time a source cowardly runs the other way, the corrupt and abusive sons of bitches win. Every g-ddamned time. Worse yet, another nail is driven into the coffin of liberty.

If you don't have the courage to stand up and do the right thing, why should this writer continue to place himself in physical and legal jeopardy trying to expose the outrageous corruption and abuse?

Despite the lack of financial assistance from a cowardly and selfish community, the Llano Ledger and Llano Ledger 2 visitor count stands in excess of 138,800. ... Over two years, now. For what?
