The following complete extended email exchange with the corporate management suite of IviewUS, regarding a highly defective Win 10 two-in-one tablet, is posted as a public service. The problem with this machine goes far beyond catastrophic failure of the Li ion battery, however.
The tablet was purchased due to low power consumption, long battery running time. Kindly be advised, Windows 10 is a 64-bit system. The tablet platform is 32-bit. Iview failed to get out the bugs, consequently, the system had to be constantly rebooted. Worse, Win 10 cannot be prevented from calling home and automatically updating.
Could never get into the BIOS to run Linux off a flash drive, before ultimately permanently installing it to replace Windows. Instructions provided by Iview did not allow BIOS access even with a USB keyboard. Consequently, never used the tablet online. Didn't trust the lack of security.
Catastrophic battery failure as detailed in the following email exchange, and Iview's egregious failure to take full responsibility for shipment of what is hazardous material, is precisely why the decision was made to take the loss, post this entire email exchange:

From the substance of
your response seems I would be legally responsible
should anything go wrong
during shipment. That's unacceptable. This is
clearly a defective product.
Should have been recalled for all the
reasons included in this
long email exchange that occurred approximately
over the last year or
so.
You have not indicated
if in fact this device has been recalled. Had to
have been many others
who have experienced what I have with this
machine. What you're
suggesting as resolution is not acceptable. Will
take the loss.
Will post this entire
email exchange in my publication as a public
service. Will also
send this lengthy email to user groups. The public
needs to made aware of
this product's serious defects.

Accepting
legal responsibility for shipping what the postal system or any
other
shipper may consider to be a hazardous package? Moreover, you have
neglected

The
machine has indeed been extensively mechanically damaged by battery
failure.
Hard to believe the tablet is repairable. Why not avoid the

You
could either replace this product, which should long since been

Has this machine been recalled? Not only are there all issues listed
below throughout this entire support exchange, the tablet could have
burned down my house. The machine was last used Friday evening, 3-9-18.
Only offline as usual. It was then shut down, left unplugged.
At
some point in the next 24hrs., the battery overheated, destroying the
tablet.
Needs to be recalled.

Changing to an earlier operating system is likely a
non-starter on a tablet
with extremely limited memory and storage. Besides, I
shouldn't have to go
through all this crap. Iview should have made available far
more data on
this machine online so users could make an intelligent
decision before
purchase. Passing the buck to Microsoft is disingenuous

Iview
contracted with them to produce this product. I think a
better route to go

If not, the tablet is no more than a boat anchor. In
earlier versions
of Windows you could shut updating completely and
permanently down.
Now, it does so as it pleases. An unbelievably insecure
operating system.
Also, Windows Defender can be shut down temporarily, but

You say, "I do not understand what you mean by " it
may also be
calling home later
when the machine is booted up and online".
What that means is after maintenance is done, does
the machine report
back to Microsoft? Windows is notorious for mining
data, using that
data, and sharing it with others. Precisely, why so
many have moved
to Linux and other operating systems such as Tails
which runs over
Windows and is designed to prevent Microsoft from
selling or sharing
user
data.
Customers do not normally want to hide their
activity so intensely,
so it is hard to say how well your activity can
be hidden by opting
out of the cloud based functions. All of the
'cloud based' features
are designed to make the average consumers
experience easy.
Customers remain aggressively stupid vis a vis
privacy, consequently
their data gets shared, sold, compiled for commercial
purposes to
provide the corporate management suite with a user's
personal profile
for marketing purposes. Cloud based computing is
designed precisely
for this purpose, not user convenience. Lap tops,
today, have the
capability of what used to be considered a
supercomputer
So cloud-based technology is simply a ruse to secure
more personal
data to be sold. An increasing number of us object
to this, do what
we can to force change to an unsustainable status quo.
Thanks for your time and trouble.

Thanks for your response. It is unbelievable
Iview provides no
detailed manual for use of the machine. It
should be online and
available. No
guide for the keyboard? How do I decipher the
abbreviations? They
are
not the same as on other machines I have. No
delete key?
Unbelievable.
Yes, I was aware of the backspace key you
mentioned in your follow
up email. It is useful only for deleting a
single character at a
time.
There are problems with the touch pad vis a vis
getting the arrow in
the precise position to do so. Worse, it is next
to impossible to
try getting the cursor in exactly the right place
using the touch
screen.
Yes. I may be able to opt out of most of the
functions.
Shut off
every cloudbased function I could find on the
Windows 10 system.
Also used a software app to get the rest. Still
doesn't seem
possible to shut off maintenance. At least that's
what it says on
the machine. The concern is if it does it
automatically, it may
also be calling home later when the machine is
booted up and online.
I have not yet put the machine online since I was
not able to
install firefox. The reason for that turned out
to be Windows 10
requires a
64
bit
firefox. Your machine, although Windows 10, is a
32 bit system.
When I subsequently tried downloading 32 bit
firefox from a flash
drive, it would not do so. You have to be online
for that to happen.
Apparently, this is required by Mozilla. I won't
put the machine
online through any other browser than Tor.
Tor requires firefox to operate. There may have
been an update to
Tor that already includes an old firefox
executable and that may
work without installing firefox first. Haven't
tried it yet. You say:
"The storage may be challenging to work with
because it is flash
storage that is supported with cloud based functions.
The unit has
32gb of flash memory." Will this machine operate
truly independent
of the cloud? If it won't, it's no more than a
useless boat anchor
to me.
Regarding the double click function on the
touchpad, I'll try it to
make sure it works. Have to be able to right
click to use Filezilla,
create desktop icons, etc.. How do I point, left
click on the
machine, drag and then copy and paste? Have
tried plugging a USB
mouse into the USB port.
The mouse does not properly function.
Apparently, I wasn't clear. Have done no updates.
What I have done
is install CCleaner. After I install an app, I
use this cleaner.
Takes an enormous amount of time to get rid of
all the garbage left
behind by installation of the apps. Apparently,
that may have
something to do with it being difficult to
operate off the cloud.
It was still doable offline, although incredibly
slow.
I'll be sure to set the priority at normal so it
is not viewed as
spam.
Your company needs to change its spam settings.
I'm sure I'm not
the only one who has inadvertently done this.
Thanks for your time and trouble. Deeply grateful.

Recently bought an IVIEW i896qw Win 10
2-in-1 tablet. Have
several
questions:
1. The Quick Start Guide provides
exceptionally little information.
Do you have a complete guide to this machine
available online?
2. Where is the delete key on the keyboard?
There is no DEL key on
the board. Other than for the alpha-numeric
keys, do you have a
guide as to what the symbols on the keys
stand
for?
3. I disabled all cloudbased functions using
the
OOSU10 app
specifically designed for Win 10. Will your
machine work as a
standalone computer or continue to be
cloudbased despite the fact I
shut off all the cloudbased functions? --
Privacy is important and
I don't want my data shared and marketed.
Precisely, why I use Tor
as browser. When blocked, run it through a VPN.
Have not yet
attempted to get online since there are
additional apps that need
to be installed before doing so.
4. How do I right click on a tablet? There
is no left or right
click bar beneath the touch pad.
5. Had trouble shutting down the machine the
second day I had it.
Apparently, didn't properly shut Windows
down,although I followed
the instructions on the screen. The next
morning, found the
battery at 2%.
Is this a defect, or did I do something wrong?
The machine itself
felt warm to the touch. Also, the date and
clock function was
corrupted.
Had to be reset. Have not had any problems
since.
The battery is
charging and holding the charge.
6. How do I shut off automatic maintenance?
Could this have
depleted the battery? Are maintenance
reports sent to Microsoft or
elsewhere despite the fact I shut off all the
cloudbased functions
that I could?
If so, how do I shut this down? I left
unchecked "Allow scheduled
maintenance to wake up my computer at the
scheduled time." Does
leaving this unchecked prevent scheduled
maintenance from running?
7. Have had problems logging into the
machine despite using the
correct password. Keep getting an incorrect
password error message.
Sometimes I can quickly log in, other times
have to make several
attempts.
8. Tried installing Firefox before
installing Tor, but got the
error message Windows 7 or later required.
This is a Windows 10
machine and Firefox won't install? Tor
requires Firefox to run.
If I can't operate this machine as a stand
alone, it's no more than
a useless boat anchor. Thanks for your time
and trouble.
