As always, when a cop does something heroic, and/or of exceptional benefit to the community, it leads. Always. CNN reports:

"Officer James Caire, a 20-year veteran of the New Orleans Police Department, is monitoring the percussionists and snapping his fingers to keep them in rhythm. Across the high school band room stands Caire's younger brother, Sgt. Gregory Johnson, eyeing the color guard and signaling for them to lift their knees higher. When these brothers are wearing their uniforms, colleagues address them as Officer Caire and Sgt. Johnson. But when they're leading band practice at McDonogh 35 High School, dressed in sweat pants and T-shirts, they become coaches and mentors. Every day, they go straight from working a full police shift to a two-hour band practice."

How about that? Two great cops mentoring kids.

"Reluctant to talk about themselves and uneasy about breaking away from work to be interviewed, the brothers did open up about their love for marching bands. The McDonogh band recently played in Mardi Gras parades in the city. Caire started playing drums as a child and continued through high school and college. "I figured if I'm always going to be playing drums I might as well be teaching somebody," he said. "The stuff that I learned through music, is what I apply to my every day life. And I try to do the same thing for the kids. Johnson's experience in a high school band color guard drew him to help McDonogh's students. "It's always a passion to do it and it brings back memories. Being able to work with them directly and know that I'm a part of it brings me joy."

A plus for the kids, who not only learn discipline, perseverance, and a work ethic, but how to make the right choices in life:

"In their day jobs, Caire oversees police station and vehicle maintenance. Johnson supervises a district investigative unit, and has been an NOPD officer for 14 years. According to Johnson, a lot of car and house burglaries in New Orleans are committed by teenagers. By working with young people at school, Johnson hopes to avoid working with them from behind bars. "As long as they're participating in extracurricular activities, that's an out for them. That keeps them out of the street," Johnson said."

Exactly, right.

"Cydney Neal, a junior -- and the only girl on the drum line -- said she has a better opportunity to go to college because of Caire. Caire's dedication to his students includes working with each individual to fine tune their skills and teach them advanced techniques. As a result, his students are equipped to continue pursuing their craft at a higher level. "He can be like a brother or a father or an uncle to me and it's just meaningful," she said. "He's nice and treats you with so much respect." Untrustworthy labels that teens sometimes put on police, she said, are "just not true."

Certainly so, with these two officers at the very least.

"Caire has built a trusting relationship with his students by working at the school for four years. He has helped shape the way that some of them look at police officers. "They see me as a cop," Caire said, "but more often than not they see me as a person that they can trust and they can confide in and they can go to with anything."

That's certainly the way it was decades ago. Needs to return ubiquitously across the nation.

"The brothers serve as role models, encouraging the kids to steer clear of trouble. "It's kind of cool because he used to march when he was a kid, too," said band member Joseph Theodore. Johnson and Caire offer the students a glimpse of life as police officers."

With positive results:

"I wanted to be a police officer before meeting him," Theodore said. "And now also, because of him."

Hat's off to both officers.

Wake up, Sheriff. Again, where is dashcam video of the killing of Jeffrey Gray Wise, 52, of Austin by DPS and the Llano County Sheriff's Office? Forty-seven weeks, now. A goddamned disgrace. Why are you still sitting on this information? What are you hiding, Sheriff? What is the identity of the officers who killed Wise? Too gutless to release this information to the public that pays your salary and that of your goons? Reportedly, there were three officers involved in the shooting.

Who are they, Sheriff? Their past history? An ongoing investigation remains a lame bullshit excuse. How can you and your goons be trusted when you refuse to disclose information? Forty-seven weeks. Especially, your egregious failure to disclose the identity of the officers who pulled the trigger. To cover your sorry ass, Sheriff? Those of your thugs? The people have a right to know what happened, how it went down. You don't understand that, Sheriff? Sadly, clearly, you answer to no one. Including taxpayers. Especially, taxpayers.

Until you and your goons come clean, doubt will remain this was indeed a good shoot. The longer you drag your feet, the greater the doubt. Think not? Wake up. Your credibility has tanked. Isn't getting any better as this bullshit continues unabated. Forty-seven weeks. Still no identification of the officers involved ... Can't get your stories straight? In line? There was one within the City of Llano, another in a field near Fuzzy's Corner, Buchanan Dam, yet another in Point Tella, Buchanan Dam, still another in Tow. It's time the public be fully informed. -- Know what we're dealing with here and how 'law' 'enforcement' operates in this hell hole County. If these jackbooted bastards are not reined in, the life lost could be yours courtesy of a law enforcement system that is no longer accountable to anyone. ... Right, Sheriff? TL? "Sonny Boy?" Madam County Attorney?

The Sheriff seems to have no clue the people who pay him and his goons are entitled to know whom is killing whom and why. This shit always seems to be swept under the carpet. Ignored. The attitude of these jackbooted sons of bitches is trust us. They can't be. They've lied too many times. Refuse to be accountable to anyone. We live in a goddamned fascist police-state where law enforcement does as it pleases. Usually, with impunity. That has to change.

The Texas Rangers have become rubber stamp to atrocities committed by law enforcement. This also has to change. No one is holding law enforcement accountable any longer. No one. No one in state or federal government. This is precisely why Ferguson triggered such an uproar. There was no justice there. None here. None anywhere. Officers are abusive, corrupt, inept.

Falsely ticket and arrest the innocent to line County coffers. Court fees charged continue to be horrendous. -- Aren't taxpayers already looted to pay these costs? Aren't you boys not only double f--king those falsely accused, but taxpayers also hellaciously looted to pay the very same costs? Yet, the criminal bastards in power in Llano continue to pile on the fees. This is nothing more than goddamned bullshit. This money finds its way into the pockets of the corrupt, abusive bastards who falsely believe they run and own this hell hole.

Would you believe the last time the Sheriff's Office happened to be 'audited' during the Garrett regime, reportedly, auditors couldn't figure out what went where and why? Yet, surprise, surprise. Nothing was done. There has to be transparency. There is none. Why would these thieving bastards want any? ... Right, Sheriff? TL? How else could they so easily steal and loot with virtual impunity? Worse, this reinforces jackbooted power in this goddamned, godforsaken hell hole County.

The public has a right to know the histories of the Sheriff's goons. Clearly, the Sheriff doesn't think so. That is, where they came from. Why they left where they were. What is happening here is the Sheriff is using 'personnel matters' as a convenient excuse to deny the public access to the history of outrageously corrupt, abusive, inept officers who are no more than criminals themselves.

He's protecting his outrageously corrupt, abusive, inept jackbooted bastards. Worse, the standards imposed by sheriff's offices statewide with the exception of metropolitan counties are well below those of DPS and city police departments. Why? So the corruption, abuse, ineptness, and outright stealing can continue unabated? This has to change. ... Can't have that, can we? Sheriff? TL?

The public should understand Llano County authorities have it all sewn up. Did you know the Texas Attorney General does not have the authority to investigate and prosecute County authorities on his own? The District Attorney has to call for an investigation by the Texas Rangers. Then, the State can prosecute if it so chooses.

Consequently? Guess what? Nothing will happen. Nothing ever does. The goddamned corruption continues unabated until you, the public, pressure authorities. Precisely, why we all enjoy the 'best' government money can buy. Literally. Without question, the corrupt, abusive, inept sons of bitches are all bought and paid for. Firmly clamped to the taxpayer tit. Dependent on money looted from innocent citizens caught in their web. Interestingly, the former Sheriff and District Attorney were reportedly forced to retire after an outrageous scandal involving a drunk driving police officer from out of town. Including special treatment of the drunken son of a bitch that no other citizen caught doing the same would have been afforded. An honest, honorable Llano County Deputy suffered the consequences. Forget? Great officers do not last in this hell hole County. ... Right, Sheriff? TL? "Sonny Boy?" Madam County Attorney?

With all ongoing abuse in this goddamned County, one thing remains for damned sure. We're just getting started, Sheriff. In follow up to an earlier edition, NBC News reports:

"The Florida police officer who fatally shot a 73-year-old retiree during a public training exercise last year is out of a job."

Doesn't your heart bleed?

"Lee Coel, who joined the Punta Gorda Police Department in 2014, was fired effective Friday, according to the city's disciplinary decision letter obtained by NBC News. The letter says Coel, 28, can appeal the decision and is also entitled to a liberty interest hearing, in which he can attempt to clear his name in a public setting."

Be especially difficult, -- with a criminal indictment pending:

"Coel's firing comes two weeks after he was charged with felony manslaughter with a firearm in connection with the August incident that claimed the life of retired librarian Mary Knowlton. He faces up to 30 years in prison and a $10,000 fine if convicted. Coel, who has pleaded not guilty, could not immediately be reached for comment Friday. Punta Gorda Police Chief Tom Lewis also faces a misdemeanor culpable negligence charge for his role in the incident and remains on administrative leave. He has said in a previous statement that he holds himself "100 percent accountable."

Insult to injury? The death was needless. Coel should have long ago been given the boot, -- had a history of egregious malfeasance as reported in the earlier edition.

In follow up to a recent edition, CBS News reports:

"A Florida man will face trial in the fatal 2014 shooting of a fellow moviegoer after an argument over texting. Pasco-Pinellas Circuit Judge Susan Barthle denied Curtis Reeves’ motion to apply Florida’s “Stand your Ground” law to the case, reports CBS affiliate WTSP."

This is an incredibly sad, sad case. Aggressive stupidity at its very worst:

"Reeves, now 74, faces a charge of second-degree murder for shooting Chad Oulson on Jan. 13, 2014 in a Pasco County movie theater. Reeves had invoked Florida’s controversial “Stand your Ground” law, claiming he shot Oulson in self-defense."

Clearly, he didn't.

"Barthle wrote in her order released Friday that Reeves was not justified in using deadly force to prevent death or great bodily harm, one of the three factors necessary for deciding whether Reeves would have been immune from prosecution under the statute. The case will now head to trial."

As well it should. Let a jury decide.

"During the hearing, Reeves testified that Oulson had attacked him and he was in fear for his life. “At that point, it was his life or mine,” Reeves said."

It wasn't. All over use of a cellphone in a theater. Worst of all? Remember? The shooter is a retired cop. His victim? Unarmed.

"A Bartow Police [Fla.] officer has been placed on administrative leave after a comment on Facebook that led to protests Thursday. Officer Christina Arribas, with the police force since 2006, will be paid during the administrative leave. A notice of pre-disciplinary action is forthcoming, the police department said."

With damned good reason.

"The social media post prompted a state attorney to issue what's referred to as a "death letter," letting her know she will no longer be called upon to serve as a witness in any case."

Again, for damned good reason.

"State Attorney Brian Haas issued the letter to Arribas after learning about her November post to Facebook under the alias "Chrissy Gillrakers." The post read, "This year we lost two gorillas, one is in heaven and one is moving out of the White House. One will be missed. One will not be."

Cold, isn't it? The Ice Princess. Think this officer fit for duty? While this piece of crap is indeed entitled to her gutless, goddamned racist views, she remains an exigent threat to all civil and constitutional rights and liberties on duty. "One of the first things Jesse Bright did after being pulled over by police on a recent Sunday afternoon was turn on his phone and begin filming. Bright was driving for Uber to make some extra cash, but he works full-time as criminal defense attorney in North Carolina. As a lawyer, he said, he believes strongly that when people record their interactions with police, it helps reduce confusion if their cases end up in court."

More important than that? Discourages criminal behavior by the jackbooted bastards in blue.

"As he aimed his phone in the direction of officers and recorded, Bright was surprised to hear Wilmington police Sgt. Kenneth Becker tell him that there was a new state law that prohibited him from recording police."

The jackbooted son of a bitch lied.

"Bright told The Washington Post that he knew better — no such law exists in North Carolina."

He's right. There is none.

“Hey, bud, turn that off, okay?” Becker said. “No, I’ll keep recording, thank you,” Bright responded. “It’s my right.”

Indeed, it is. The piece of jackbooted shit lied.

“Don’t record me,” the police sergeant said. “You got me?” “Look,” Bright said, “you’re a police officer on duty. I can record you.”

That's true. He can.

“Be careful because there is a new law,” Becker said. “Turn it off or I’ll take you to jail.”

For exercising a constitutional right.

“For recording you?” the video shows Bright asking Becker. “What is the law?”

There is no law, -- and the driver knew it. So did the goddamned jackbooted thug in uniform. The son of a bitch lied.

"A tense exchange followed, with Becker telling Bright to step out of his car, calling him “a jerk,” then warning him that he “better hope” officers didn’t find something in his vehicle."

"Bright continued to record, saying, “I know my rights.”

Indeed, he did.

“I hope so,” said Becker, the police sergeant. “I know what the law is.”

“I know the law,” Bright said. “I’m an attorney, so I would hope I know what the law is.”

“And an Uber driver?” Becker asked."

Indeed.

"Bright told The Post that he is working for Uber to help pay off his law-school loans. He said he had been hired to take his passenger on a round trip from the man’s home to a location several miles away where, the man said, he was picking up a paycheck on the final Sunday in February. After the passenger returned to the car holding a piece of paper, Bright said he was pulled over moments later. Officers searched the passenger and told Bright that he’d brought the man to a drug house that was under surveillance. “They said I should have known it was a drug house, and I tried to tell them I was an Uber driver,” Bright said. “They thought it was some sort of cover.”

"Wilmington Police Chief Ralph Evangelous said in a statement this week that his department has “launched an internal investigation” into the Feb. 26 incident."

Bet he has.

“Taking photographs and videos of people that are in plain sight including the police is your legal right,” the statement said. “As a matter of fact we invite citizens to do so when they believe it is necessary. We believe that public videos help to protect the police as well as our citizens and provide critical information during police and citizen interaction.”

That's right. Benefits all .

"The chief added that “a copy of this statement will be disseminated to every officer within the Wilmington Police Department.”

Had better be. If not, -- a lawsuit waiting to happen. Officers need to smarten up. No officer should object to being recorded, -- unless he or she is corrupt, abusive, engaging in criminal activity. ... Right, Sheriff?

"Bright said officers eventually searched him and his car but didn’t find anything. He said both he and his passenger were told they were free to go and neither man was charged."

How about that? An illegal search. Mighty hard to plant contraband when the victim is an attorney, that is, an officer of the court.

"Bright said he never had any doubt that Becker was lying to him about the do-not-film law. “If a police officer gives you a lawful command and that command is disobeyed, they’ll arrest you,” Bright said. “The fact that I wasn’t arrested and he didn’t even try to arrest me is proof that he was being dishonest.”

"He said Becker’s command to stop recording and the searches — to which he didn’t consent — were a violation of his constitutional rights. He noted that suppressing video is in an officer’s best interest because it allows police to dictate the narrative later if a case arises."

“I was mainly surprised because one of the officers who was there has had a trial in court with me and so he recognized me,” he said. “I’d think that once they’d recognized that I was a trial lawyer they would’ve changed their tone and stopped violating my rights.”

"New Hanover County Sheriff Ed McMahon told ABC affiliate WWAY that after reviewing the video, it was clear that his deputy was incorrect and has been counseled."

"The sheriff’s department said in a statement that “not only does the Sheriff agree that it is legal to record encounters, he invites citizens to do so.”

Absolutely necessary to successful policing. Both sides behave far more civilly when recorded. More importantly, there's a record of the encounter.

"Bright said he didn’t initially want to share his story to the media, but when Becker refused to return his phone calls and the department never apologized, he decided to go public. He said he doesn’t want the officers involved to be punished, but he does hope to let people know that the public has the right to film police."

"His story, he said, should serve as a warning. “I think the video shows that the police are willing to lie in order to coerce people into doing what they want them to do,” he said. “You just have to know your rights.”

"But in almost all cases in the United States you actually do have the right to record police and other public officials carrying out their duties. There are some state wiretapping laws that make it illegal to record audio of people without their consent, but the courts have consistently held that the First Amendment protects citizens' right to record the police when they're on the job. The police can't stop you unless you're interfering with their work -- and they can't take away your smart phone or delete the recordings just because you took video. Police need a warrant to mess with the content of your cell phone."

That's right. Doesn't mean, however, the jackbooted bastards won't abrogate that right. Precisely, why it's necessary to sue the living shit out of the bastards.

"The Department of Justice has even officially weighed in on citizen recordings of law enforcement officers. Here's what it said in a 2012 letter to attorneys for the Baltimore Police Department:

"Policies should affirmatively set forth the contours of individuals’ First Amendment right to observe and record police officers engaged in the public discharge of their duties. Recording governmental officers engaged in public duties is a form of speech through which private individuals may gather and disseminate information of public concern, including the conduct of law enforcement officers."

-- This coming from the DOJ. Be interesting to see, if under the Trump nazi and his stooge U.S. Attorney General, the Sessions nazi, whether the directive stands. All the more reason to sue.

"Obviously, just because you have the right doesn't mean all law enforcement officials will respect it. But there's also a growing movement to make sure that police actions are almost always facing the scrutiny of video evidence by use of mandatory body cameras, or "bodycams," on officers."

Body and dashcams need to be ubiquitous in law enforcement. One of the best ways to hold these goddamned criminals accountable.

That all? True testament to the fact the wheels of 'justice' turn slowly, -- if at all.

"The state finally agreed this week to write him a check for $175,000, according to his lawyers."

'Generous' of the bastards, isn't it?

"The payout is the maximum amount Oklahoma law allows people who have been wrongfully convicted to collect."

Outrageous. Especially, since the goddamned police, prosecutors, judges enjoy sovereign immunity.

"That is what is supposed to make up for his 13 years of incarceration -- the lost wages and potential, the separation from family and friends, the time he'll never get back -- and the psychological trauma that thrust him into addiction and homelessness after he was released."

"When Nicole Hamilton would visit her husband, Derrick, in prison, they liked to pretend the prison yard was New York's Central Park. They would spread out vending machine snacks on a bench and imagine they were having a picnic. "We were trying to make the best of it," Nicole recalled. "Trying to make something normal in an abnormal situation."

An outrageously unjust incarceration.

"They've been married 12 years, but their relationship has been marked by hardships few married couples will ever experience. In 1991, Derrick was convicted for the murder of his friend, Nathaniel Cash, in Brooklyn, where Derrick used to live. The problem? He says he was two hours away that night in New Haven, Connecticut."

Didn't matter. Certainly, not in a fascist police-state.

"Louis Scarcella, one of the New York Police Department detectives who handled the case, produced a witness named Jewel Smith, Cash's then-girlfriend, who testified that she had seen Derrick shoot Cash in the chest. Later, she recanted her testimony, saying Scarcella had threatened to take her children and put her in prison for violating her own parole if she didn't agree to be a witness to the murder. Decades later, nearly 50 of Scarcella's cases would face review from prosecutors for possible malpractice."

This goes on for decades because the criminal jackbooted bastards in blue remain achingly incapable of policing themselves. Prosecutors and judges are in bed with these corrupt, abusive, inept, murderous pieces of law enforcement shit.

"Derrick's case hinged on witness testimony. The prosecution had Smith. The defense had a witness, but that person was hospitalized on the day of the trial. Defense lawyers also knew of two women, Kelly Turner and da'Vette Mahan, who were with Derrick in New Haven the night of the murder. But they couldn't contact them in time to testify. A defense motion for a delay was denied. Derrick was sentenced to 25 years to life."

Members worked to overturn their own and other inmates' convictions. In time, Derrick established a reputation as one of the most skilled jailhouse lawyers in the state. His love for the law kept him sane. He spent 10 years in solitary confinement, locked in a small cell for 23 hours a day, reading law books and filing briefs while his fellow inmates screamed and banged on the walls."

"The case took a toll on his personal life. His first wife left him shortly before his trial began in 1992. "Derrick finally got his break in 2010, when his case was brought to the attention of two people -- post-conviction lawyer Jonathan Edelstein, who agreed to help him, and a New York Daily News reporter, who happened to have been outside the Brooklyn State Supreme Court the day Nicole organized a protest to free Derrick. He wrote a story about Derrick's case. A letter from Edelstein and the Daily News story were submitted to the parole board, as well as witness affidavits from Turner and Mahan, and in 2011, 21 years after he arrived, Derrick Hamilton walked out of prison.

"A rookie Miami police officer was relieved of his duties after being arrested on robbery charges, the Miami Police Department said on Saturday."

"Officer Jose Acosta, 21, was arrested and charged following an internal investigation. Acosta, who had been with the department for about six months, was charged with one count of armed robbery of a conveyance and one count of armed grand theft, the department said. The probe began following accusations that he allegedly robbed victims during traffic stops, ABC News affiliate WPLG reported."

Pre-employment vetting that bad?

"The officer was "relieved of duty without pay, pending termination," Cabrera said. "The city of Miami Police Department will not tolerate actions that betray the oath of our office as public servants and contradict our duty to serve and to protect our communities."

"The children of Terrill Thomas are now filing a federal civil lawsuit against Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke and staff. Terrill Thomas was one of four people (including a newborn) to die at the Milwaukee County Jail within a six-month period in 2016. It's been almost a year since 38-year-old Thomas died of dehydration inside his cell. He was jailed in connection with a shooting inside the Potawatomi Hotel & Casino in April of 2016. He faced felony charges in the case, but on April 24th, he was found dead from dehydration inside his cell -- his death ruled a homicide."

The inmate was denied water.

"Now, a federal lawsuit filed by his family alleges he was subjected to a form of torture. Thomas' son is demanding justice. "I expect the people who did this to my father to come out from under the blanket... and be held accountable for it," said Terrill Thomas Jr., son of Terrill Thomas. The lawsuit claims Thomas was sent to solitary confinement and correction officers shut off his water. It's alleged jail staff has repeatedly ignored his cries for water."

Human rights violation.

"Thomas' family is suing Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke, and members of his staff. "It takes at least five hours at minimum and sometimes days to get dehydrated; you have nausea, vomiting, hallucinations," said Attorney Walter. W. Stern."

Sheriff's reaction to the suit?

"Sheriff Clarke sent the following statement: "I have nearly 1000 inmates. I don't know all their names but is this the guy who was in custody for shooting up the Potawatomi Casino causing one man to be hit by gunfire while in possession of a firearm by a career convicted felon?" Clarke said. "The media never reports that in stories about him. If that is him, then at least I know who you are talking about."

"Gutierrez, 28, was in the in the Miami-Dade county courtroom defending 49-year-old Claudy Charles, who was accused of setting his car alight."

"When Officer Arthur Parker directs traffic in front of Clark High School in Plano, Texas, the 57-year-old keeps the cars and his body moving, surprising some drivers. “I had a patrol call and say someone called and said there’s an officer drunk in the street. They got a real call,” Parker said. But to students and staff who know Officer Parker, or OP as he’s called, it’s nothing new."

Indeed, -- and he was not drunk. LOL.

"He has worked as a school resource officer for the past 27 years and he’s living stronger by keeping people safe and spreading joy. “He makes them laugh,” said Janice Williams, the high school’s principal. “My first impression was ‘oh my gosh, this is gonna be the person that’s gonna be protecting us’ because he did his normal goofy OP (Officer Parker) thing and went into some kind of character, and he’s kept me laughing ever since,” Williams said. To keep students motivated, Parker even taught himself a tune on the harmonica for every situation."

Creative, isn't it? A plus for good policing, good police-community relations, to say nothing of good rapport between police and students:

"To the teens at Clark High, he’s a confidant and confidence booster. “OP, he really tries to find that connection,” said student Sapida Abbasi." “He’s mostly just taught me how to be confident no matter what,” she said. “When it’s fun. he’s always fun, when things get real, he’s strict,” said student Sirnic Mbua."

"Last year, Officer Parker was voted Plano police officer of the year. To show their appreciation, the students came up with a secret plan; They surprised the police veteran with a pep rally."

Think these kids won't turn out well? Haven't benefited greatly by their experience with this officer?

"Parker believes making other people smile is the key to a happy life. “I feel like I have so much to give, and I’m still not giving enough. Not many people have the opportunity or are aware of the power they have to make someone happy,” Parker said."

Body cameras are a remarkably good tool. Certainly promote better police and community behavior during encounters. A good source of evidence as well, when used properly, to document an encounter. Protect both the officer and all involved. NPR reports:

"In 2014, the New Orleans Police Department made a bold move into body cameras, requiring all uniformed officers to wear them and record their contact with the public."

A good move by the department despite initial problems.

"The program got off to a rough start: NPR documented spotty use by officers, and, crucially, how hard it was for the office of the city's independent police monitor — which handles complaints about police misconduct — to gain access to videos of police use of force. Three years on, the cameras have become part of the everyday routine, improving the local law enforcement culture, but also creating new burdens."

Badly needed change always presents issues to be resolved.

"Officers now turn on the cameras in nearly 100 percent of the incidents in which they're required to, according to internal audits. The improvements came after the department clarified the disciplinary consequences for failing to do so."

Imagine that. Couldn't be, could it?

"And the videos are more available to Susan Hutson, the city's independent police monitor. "There's almost always some type of video" for her to see now, she says. "The New Orleans Police Department has come a long way, no doubt," Hutson says, though she's still pressing for easier access."

Access should never be an issue. Ever. ... Unless, of course, corrupt, abusive police desperately try to hide malfeasance.

"Right now, the police department refuses to give her physical custody of the videos, forcing her and her staff to come to the department to see them. "We continue to fight this battle," she says. "That's what 2017 is for us — access to all these systems."

Again, why is this an issue? If police are afraid evidence could be lost, why aren't they providing her certified copies? Copies that are digitally produced, encrypted, and electronically sent her?

"The Orleans Public Defenders office has a similar assessment. The chief of trials, Danny Engelberg, says the videos are being recorded regularly, and the cameras have had a positive effect on police conduct."

Not only on police conduct, however, but also the behavior of all those involved in the encounter.

"They can't get away with some of the practices they used to," Engelberg says. "Busting into people's houses, going into people's cars, just coming up to people and searching them with impunity, and we just aren't seeing as much of that."

That's good. Civilizes the jackbooted bastards in blue.

"And the videos sometimes bolster defendants' cases: Engelberg says videos have helped clients by showing they weren't read their rights at the correct time, or — in one extreme case — when an officer appeared to try to angle the camera away when he planted drugs on a suspect. Engelberg says the camera caught it anyway."

A cop who plants contraband, a 'throw away gun,' etc., needs not only be prosecuted, but permanently lose peace officer certification. Nationwide.

There is one downside to all this. Takes police, prosecutors, and defense attorneys hours to sift through all the video. That likely won't forever remain an issue as highly reliable artificial intelligence systems are designed, improved, and deployed.

"Two Provo police officers are getting some recognition on social media for the way they responded to a domestic assault call. Officers Lauren Loch and Joshua Combs responded to an assault call at 974 W. 600 South on Feb. 2. They said this is a routine call, but when they got there, they found a woman whose husband had violently threatened her, then left with her cellphone and all her food."

Gets worse:

"But what really made the officers feel for the woman was the fact that she was wheelchair bound — an amputee — with no means to fend for herself in that moment and no way to get to the nearest store to buy more food."

Has to be a special place reserved in Hell for a son of a bitch who would do something like this.

“She was just trying to downplay it and say, ‘Oh, I can wait until tomorrow,’” Combs said. “Which I’m sure she could have, but why should she have to?” So Combs and Loch went to a nearby Smith's grocery store and bought groceries for the women. When they returned, the woman said she was going to make them a sandwich."

"The woman’s husband was arrested later that night."

"A Camden County [NJ] police officer is being recognized for the kindness and compassion she showed toward a homeless man. On the morning of Feb 17, Officer Clarimar Rodriguez was on foot patrol when she saw a homeless man, who she had met several times previously. “She began talking to the man who told her that he hadn’t had a haircut for several years and was trying to get one,” said Camden police in a Facebook post. Officer Rodriguez then walked the man to a nearby barber shop and treated him to a haircut."

The skeptic in me wonders whether or not this is no more than a public relations ploy, -- but still credit has to be given when due.

“Officer Rodriguez has consistently recognized that her job is also caring about the well-being of all the members in the community she serves,” said Lt. Jason Pike. “Her willingness to help this gentleman shows she has the dedication it takes to be a Camden County police officer.” Officer Rodriguez was honored with “Officer of the Week” for setting an example of what it means to put service before herself, police said."

Whether or not all this was staged for public relations purposes, if the guy got a hair cut who couldn't afford one, so be it. Then again, if the same department harassed this guy in the past and others for being homeless, that's another matter. Sadly, truth remains a moving target.

Too gutless to release this information to the public that pays your salary and that of your goons? Reportedly, there were three officers involved in the shooting.

The suspected cops have been under investigation since last year after a random audit revealed they were turning in fake traffic tickets for at least three months. Before the investigation was handed off to the grand jury, 11 cops decided to turn in their badge. As for the other five, well, it took a grand jury hearing over the weekend for them to make their grand exit and surrender their peace officer certificate."

Not good enough. Nowhere near. Need to be prosecuted. If convicted, lose peace officer certification permanently. Across the nation.

"Newly-released dashcam video purports to show the moment an 18-year-old Georgia man was killed by law enforcement deputies who deployed stun guns on him during a 2015 encounter. In the early morning hours of Aug. 31, 2015, Nicholas Dyksma was driving a Toyota pickup truck on U.S. Highway 27 while being pursued by police in Columbus, Georgia, and crossed into Harris County, according to a civil lawsuit filed Feb. 14 in U.S. District Court Middle District of Georgia against members of the Harris County Sheriff's Office who were involved in the incident."

It's stupid to run from police. Grants the criminal jackbooted bastards in blue carte blanche to murder.

"After Harris County deputies took over the pursuit, they were able to stop the truck by placing stop sticks around the seven-mile mark on the highway, near Hamilton. Once the truck was immobilized, at least one of the deputies allegedly smashed a car window and "forcibly removed" Dyksma from the car, according to the lawsuit."

Get worse, far worse:

"The deputies then used a Taser to force Dyksma to the car to be handcuffed, "pinning him to the ground with the weight of their bodies, and continued to do so even after he was handcuffed," according to the lawsuit. The officers' combined weight then allegedly cut off Dyksma's air supply "so that he was unable to breath," and the officers "did not stop applying pressure on his airway until after he lost consciousness."

Think 'extreme vetting' of these criminal jackbooted bastards in blue does any good? Any good at all? Wake up.

"Once the deputies realized that Dyksma was unconscious, they stopped applying pressure but "simply stood there and made no attempt to resuscitate him," even though at least one of them were trained in CPR, according to the lawsuit."

"It was not until the ambulance arrived some ten minutes later that Defendants made any attempt to perform CPR on Nicholas, and by then it was too late to revive him," the lawsuit states."

"In the video -- obtained last year by the Dyksma family's attorneys from authorities via the Georgia Open Records Act, but exclusively released this week by ABC affiliate WSB-TV in Atlanta -- four deputies can be seen approaching the truck with weapons drawn before they pull Dyksma out through the passenger side. They then appear to restrain Dyksma on the ground for several seconds."

"Nicholas Dyksma's death was ruled a homicide caused by stun guns, compression of the neck and torso and acute methamphetamine intoxication, according to a report by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation."

Dyksma was pronounced dead at a local hospital, according to a death certificate."

"The Georgia Bureau of Investigation blamed the deputies' actions for Dyksma's death, stating that the Taser and compression of his neck and torso were to blame, as well as methamphetamine intoxication. Dyksma's cause of death was determined to be "sudden death during an altercation with law enforcement, after deployment of an electroconductive device, with prone positioning, compression of the neck and torso, and acute methamphetamine intoxication," according to an autopsy report by filed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation filed on Dec. 11, 2015. His death was also ruled a homicide."

Yet, these criminal jackbooted bastards in blue were not held accountable, not prosecuted. Protected. Coddled. In a goddamned fascist police-state.

"The deputies "knew or should have known that the continuous application of pressure to his torso could cause Nicholas Dyksma to asphyxiate and die, but they did so anyway and did not stop until he was dead or near death," the lawsuit alleges, adding that each of the deputies "acted unreasonably" in causing or contributing to Dyksma's death. The lawsuit alleges that there was "no justification" for the "unreasonable" life-threatening force used against Dyksma because "he did not pose any immediate threat of death or serious bodily harm to" the deputies."

In the video you can see one officer put his knee on the back of Dyksma’s neck. A few minutes later, officers noticed something was wrong. “Is he alive?” a deputy asks. Deputies originally responded to a call about a man sleeping in his truck. When they woke him, right away he took off. Kaplan told Davis-Spears she owed $12,000 as child support for her son's time in detention."

"He said he was cutting me 'a hell of a deal.' There was no back and forth. He just said, 'This is what you owe,'" Spears explained in written testimony. "I didn't have a lawyer there to help me. It felt so one-sided."

In fact, charging parents for their kids' incarceration is common in 19 states identified by a new Marshall Project investigation published in partnership with the Washington Post. As always, when a cop does something heroic, and/or of great benefit to the community, it leads. Always. Consider the following. It's nighttime. No one's on the road and your car suddenly stalls. No power. Nothing. Dead. On fire. Can't get out. Can't break window glass. Trapped. CNN reports:

"That's the situation Navy veteran Kim Novak of Spokane, Washington, found herself in last month. "The car just went black," Novak said. "The radio shut off, all the lights went off. The motor stopped. I mean just black." Novak didn't know "if the flames were going to get me first or the smoke was going to get me." She grabbed for her phone and dialed a 911 dispatcher, who told her to try again to kick out the car's windows. They wouldn't shatter."

Had it not been for the phone, she likely wouldn't have survived.

"In his patrol car, not far away, Spokane police Officer Tim Schwering, was working his usual graveyard shift. "I just heard it on the radio and decided, I'm going to that," he recalled. Minutes later, Schwering was there. He recalled finding Novak in her car in the middle of the street. The engine compartment was "completely engulfed in flames."

No way to unlock the door. Glass that was apparently extremely difficult, if not impossible to shatter.

"Schwering had to punch through the car's glass. But how? Dramatic police body camera video shows the officer using his baton to crack the vehicle's driver-side window. But it "wasn't working fast enough," he said. "That's when I started ripping the glass out with my hands." He worked for about a minute, all the while the fire threatening to hit the fuel line and spark an explosion."

Clearly, a faulty engineering issue. There always should be some way to exit a vehicle in an emergency. -- Especially, if there is no body damage from a collision. The victim asserts the car was well-maintained, serviced. Only several years old. Approximately 75,000 miles.

"Finally, Schwering created just enough space for Novak to climb through the window. "I grab an arm, a neighbor grabs an arm, and we pull her out of the car and drag her to the ambulance, " Schwering remembered. The video shows the three of them rushing away from the flames. No one was injured, but Novak and Schwering were treated for smoke inhalation as a precaution."

Hat's off to the officer and the neighbor who helped. Uncommon valor.

"As for the fame he's drawn since rescuing Novak, Schwering said, "Getting this attention is nice, but I can tell you a hundred stories that have happened in the past month within this department and around the nation that are doing the same things."

That's why when I hear of one, it's covered here. Represents the very best in policing.

"Novak said she was "at the mercy of whoever was going to come save me." She called Schwering her "guardian angel." She's sharing her story to promote Schwering's bravery. "Divine intervention, by the grace of God -- whatever you want to say -- he came to my rescue," she said. "Because I wouldn't have made it. I honestly believe I would have perished in there."

"A Franklin [NC] police officer saved the life of a family dog by administering CPR and mouth-to-snout resuscitation. Wednesday morning, Linda Marble called for help after her pomeranian named Ginger chewed through an old lamp cord and was shocked. Officer Christy Osborne-Evans arrived at the home to find Ginger unresponsive. She removed the cord and immediately started CPR and mouth-to-snout breaths, reviving little Ginger, much to her owner's appreciation."

... No greater love. Another great story of a cat who saved a life, but lost his. Fox News reports:

"A 74-year-old Texas man lost the home he once shared with his wife and son to a fire on Valentine's Day. But he could've lost his life if it weren't for his pet cat that alerted him. Reed McIntosh says he was asleep when his home caught fire in Grand Prairie Tuesday morning. It was one of his five cats named Angel who woke him up and gave him the chance to get out of his home safely. Sadly, Angel and the rest of his pets didn’t make it."

Forewarned. Gets tougher:

"Early Tuesday morning, McIntosh was asleep in his bedroom when Angel, his 7-month-old cat, started pawing his face. “He did it again,” he recalled. “And I sort of sat up, like ‘what?!’” That's when McIntosh heard some beeping that at first he thought was coming from his computer. But it was a smoke alarm going off near the garage. McIntosh says he got out and called 911."

Seatbelts on. The following is wrenching:

"Grand Prairie firefighters showed up and began fighting the flames and searching for the cats that were still inside. “One of the gentlemen came out and said ‘We found them. They were all in your bedroom,’” he recalled. “I was like, ‘great!’ He said, ‘No, they're all gone. Sorry.’” McIntosh says a woman with animal control brought the cats out who had died from smoke inhalation in a clothes basket so he could say goodbye."

Even sadder:

“Which I thought was very thoughtful and brought them up on the porch, and I held them,” he said. “I loved them.” McIntosh says he removed their collars for safe keeping. Removing Angel's collar was the toughest. “If it hadn't been for Angel, I would've been dead,” he said. “I think that was destined to be his name. I think he was destined to be here to save me on a Valentine's Day. I'll never forget.”

There are some incredible stand-up people out there. Disabled Navy veteran Gary Blough is certainly one of them. So is the owner of a Daytona Beach Kia-Mitsubishi dealership. CBS News reports:

"A disabled Navy veteran was given the surprise of a lifetime on Wednesday — nearly a week after police said the 45-year-old was beaten by three men after he asked them to stop torturing a turtle in Daytona Beach, Florida."

... Has to be a special place reserved in Hell for these three pieces of human excrement.

"Local car dealership Daytona Beach Kia-Mitsubishi gave Gary Blough and his family the keys to a 2012 Kia Forte, which is worth up to $10,000. Richard Nisbett, owner of Daytona Beach Kia-Mitsubishi, said he was touched by Blough’s story and felt compelled to help."

He did.

“Here’s a guy that’s trying to stand up for some defenseless animal and he ends up getting beat up,” Nisbett told CBS News. “He was taken to a hospital from a beating that shouldn’t have happened. He had to walk home with his walker — I mean, I just couldn’t take it. I wanted to do whatever I could.”

He did. -- Most generously so.

"Salespeople and customers crowded around Blough as he made his way into the car dealership Wednesday. He was in a wheelchair, wearing an eye patch and wrist braces, and had a cane in hand. Nisbett thanked the man for his brave actions, and both of them got emotional as Blough tested out his new ride. “He was choked up as I was, and just couldn’t have been more appreciative,” Nisbett said. “It just felt like the right thing to do.”

Indeed, it was.

"Blough’s wife, Jennifer, created a GoFundMe page after the incident to help cover medical expenses and pay for a rental car to transport the family and their 1-year-old daughter to and from doctor appointments. “My husband Garry now has to have surgery on his eye,” Jennifer explained. “And another major surgery. He has metal in him from the war in 1991.” Thousands of people rallied around the family, and within 7 days, they had raised more than $32,000."

-- A lesson indeed to be learned, -- for the hopelessly greedy corporate management suite and the rest of the top 1% of the food chain.

“Thanks for helping those who can’t help themselves,” one donor wrote.

“Thank you for helping a defenseless creature,” another added. “You restore my faith in humanity and you deserve the best.”

Indeed.

Here is the worst of it. Man's inhumanity to his fellow man and the sentient creature he desperately tried to save:

"Blough was outside his apartment complex when he said he saw a group of three men torturing a turtle last week, reports CBS affiliate WKMG. One of the men, identified as Johnnie Beveritt, 18, picked up the turtle and threw it down on the sidewalk; the two others, Ryan Ponder, 23, and a 16-year-old whose name was not released, kicked the turtle toward the apartment building, Blough told the news station after the incident. Blough says when he told them to stop, they attacked him. First responders said Blough suffered injuries including broken skull and facial bones, internal bleeding and a concussion. The turtle was later found dead. All three men were charged with aggravated battery and animal cruelty."

Hard to believe these three pieces of human trash were brought up by their parents to commit such horrendous crimes against this man and a defenseless animal.

Coup de grace? Uncommon valor?

"Blough said he doesn’t regret standing up for the animal. “I would take the beating I got again if it meant saving that turtle,” Blough told WKMG."

The following is a superb idea that should be seriously considered by law enforcement all over the country. CNN reports:

"Two years ago, Seattle Police Officer Jim Ritter realized his city had a major problem. People weren't reporting hate crimes. He'd hear about them, anecdotally. Some were horrifying incidents. But they weren't showing up on police reports."

Sad, isn't it? People, too afraid to come forward.

"After determining most of these crimes were being committed in the commercial districts throughout the city, (I) had to sit down and figure out what are we going to do about this," Ritter said. He started a program called Safe Place. It's a first-in-the-nation initiative that designates local businesses as a place where victims of hate crimes can shelter while waiting for the police to arrive."

A great idea.

"It's a simple concept based on something he remembered from his childhood -- houses with stickers that signaled to kids walking to school that if something bad happened, they could knock on the door and get help."

Remember? What ever happened to this program? Great for kids. Great for anyone who has been a victim of crime.

"Ritter designed a sticker -- a police shield with the LGBT rainbow symbolism. It goes on the front of any business agreeing to call police if a victim of a hate crime comes inside looking for help. "In this day of communications, everybody just assumes someone else is calling police and we can't afford to have that happen anymore, neither can these victims," Ritter said. Ritter, who is gay, admitted that he never knew so much anti-LGBT crime was going unreported in his own city, where he'd worked as a cop for nearly four decades."

The fact this officer is himself a member of the LGBT community, has four decades of experience, indeed speaks volumes about rampant fear within the LGBT community. Would have thought LGBT victims of crime would have already approached this officer as a highly reliable, trusted liaison to the Department. The fact they hadn't demonstrates profound fear, distrust of not only their abusers, but those in the best position to fight this scourge.

"Now, Safe Place has become so popular, he can barely think about anything else. Police departments across the country are calling, asking for help implementing his program in Cincinnati, Louisville, Birmingham, Durham, Baltimore, Honolulu, Columbus -- and even in Canada in Vancouver, British Columbia."

Encouraging, isn't it?

"Most notably, the Orlando police launched Safe Place on the six-month anniversary of the Pulse Night Club massacre. "I actually feel like I'm making a positive difference in society and not just going through the motions," Ritter said. "I think the majority of police chiefs and administrators that contacted me said, " Hey, Jim, we want to get this right, we don't want to screw this up."

This is a great idea. Especially, since intolerance is slated to grow under the Trump nazi and his henchmen.

"You've got victims from all different kinds of minority communities that have the same thing happen to them. They are assaulted or victimized either because of who they are or who these suspects portray them to be." Here in Seattle, Ritter said two felony assault cases were reported from inside a Safe Place business within the program's first week. "One of those safe place locations, the witnesses were holding a suspect down when police arrived," he said. And police immediately noticed an increase in the reporting of hate crimes. "And that told me that it was starting to work as designed," he said."

Good to see the public courageously beginning to stand up to this crap. Think much of this abuse does not trace its way back to the Trump nazi?

"Aaron Amundsen is one of the victims targeted right after the election in November. He's a Seattle tattoo parlor owner, and he walked out to his car one day to find a wet, wrinkled up note. "I opened it up and thought: Is this a joke? And then it hit me, and I got really upset by it," he said. "It was: 'Hey blank, we won so you better watch your back.' Just a bunch of political and anti LGBTQ slurs. And it was kind of threatening and really spooky."
The note said, "Your days are numbered. Make America straight again to make it great again. You will see." It included two gay slurs."

"A North Carolina family's dog is alive, thanks to the actions of an off-duty Leland police officer who ran into a burning home to save the animal."

"WWAY-TV reports (http://bit.ly/2mGaUuw) that Sgt. Jonathan Hall kicked down the door of the home Sunday night. He didn't find Kia until after he went back outside to take a breath and saw the dog come through the door he'd kicked open. Two other homes were damaged by the fire that started across the street after a neighbor was burning brush, but single dad John Davidson and his 8-year-old daughter Hali lost everything, including Hali's pet hermit crab and fish. WWAY-TV says the two were on vacation in Florida when the fire broke out."

Too gutless to release this information to the public that pays your salary and that of your goons? Reportedly, there were three officers involved in the shooting.

Especially, your egregious failure to disclose the identity of the officers who pulled the trigger. To cover your sorry ass, Sheriff? Those of your thugs? "Seven Baltimore police officers are charged with operating a racketeering conspiracy in which they allegedly stole and extorted money from people. One of the officers is also charged with dealing drugs."

"In a news release Wednesday announcing the indictments and arrests of the officers, U.S. Attorney Rod Rosenstein says the case “is not about aggressive policing, it is about a criminal conspiracy.”

"The police department says the officers are suspended without pay. In the news release, Police Commissioner Kevin Davis says the officers’ crimes “erode trust with our community.” He says that “reform isn’t always a pretty thing to watch unfold,” but vowed it would continue “in our journey toward a police department our city deserves.”

About time. Hold the bastards criminally accountable. This, at a time the Sessions nazi, as U.S. Attorney General, intends to scale back 'Justice' Department lawsuits against criminal police departments.

"The accusations portray officers who stole from taxpayers through time fraud and from citizens they stopped or searched, with at least 10 victims robbed including some who had not committed crimes, officials said. The overtime abuses alleged include one from an officer who claimed it while on vacation in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and another who was in the poker room of a casino and not on the job, according to details released by prosecutors. The alleged robberies included stealing $1,500 from a maintenance man who planned to use the cash for rent and a theft of about $200,000 from a safe and from bags seized at a search location, authorities said. In another instance, one officer accused is accused of helping an associate in a drug conspiracy remove a GPS tracking device placed on the person’s car by the DEA."

Insult to injury?

"At a news conference, Baltimore Police Chief Kevin Davis called the allegations “heinous acts” and said the officers charged are “1930s-style gangsters as far as I’m concerned.”

How could you and others not know this was going on? How?

"An "extraordinary" effort by the new U.S. administration prevented former CIA officer Sabrina de Sousa from being the first ever extradited for an alleged CIA misdeed, according to her spokesman. De Sousa, who was set to be extradited from Portugal to Italy over the kidnapping of a Muslim cleric, won a last-minute reprieve on Wednesday. Sabrina de Sousa was one of 26 people convicted in absentia for the 2003 abduction of radical Egyptian cleric Osama Mustapha Hassan Nasr, also known as Abu Omar. He was then transported to his native Egypt for interrogation where he says he was tortured."

No justice for this convicted criminal. She'll wind up likely doing some community service. Somewhere. Where? Allegedly, to be arranged.

In follow up to a case of egregious police malfeasance covered in an earlier edition, NBC News reports:

"The Punta Gorda, Florida police chief and one of his officers have been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a retiree during a training exercise — a tragedy that made national headlines last year. Officer Lee Coel, who is accused of firing the fatal shot that killed 73-year-old Mary Knowlton, is charged with felony manslaughter with a firearm. He faces up to 30 years in prison and a $10,000 fine if convicted. His boss, Chief Tom Lewis, is charged with culpable negligence, a misdemeanor. He could get 60 days in jail if he's found guilty."

Not good enough. Far from it.

"Knowlton, a retired librarian, was taking part in a citizen police academy "shoot/don't shoot" exercise when she was struck by a live round while almost three dozen other participants looked on."

This is a case that is complicated by the fact it could have been prevented. Worse? Coel had a history of malfeasance that was ignored.

"Coel was using a revolver that had been used before in these drills and Lewis said in the aftermath of the shooting "we were unaware that any live ammunition existed for this kind of weapon. We thought only blanks were available." Three months after Knowlton was killed, the city approved a $2 million settlement with her surviving family."

Here's what makes the death of this woman so achingly preventable:

"Even before the shooting, Coel had been a controversial figure in his department. In October 2015, dash cam video recorded a man named Richard Schumacher being mauled by Coel's police dog for at least two minutes during an arrest. Schumacher received a $70,000 settlement from the city, which also paid his $130,000 medical bills, his lawyer Scott Weinberg said. "We so sorry for the Knowlton family," Weinberg said. "This was a preventable tragedy. If this officer had been taken off the street after the Schumacher and other numerous incidents, this would never have happened."

Indeed. Inexcusable.

"Vivian Reeves was emotional as she testified Wednesday before a judge at her husband's hearing in Florida, attesting that her husband, Curtis Reeves, a retired Tampa police captain, had his head in his hands after he shot a fellow moviegoer over a disagreement about a cellphone in January 2014."

Amazing how such a goddamned stupid, nonsensical issue can result in someone's death:

"Curtis Reeves is accused of fatally shooting Chad Oulson. The shooting allegedly happened after Oulson threw popcorn at the Reeves for being told to put away his cellphone during the movie's previews."

Goddamned insane.

"It happened very quickly, and [Oulson's] whole upper body just came forward, and I thought that he was coming over,” Vivian Reeves testified."

Gutless. Aching cowardice.

"If a Pasco County, Florida, judge determines that Reeves was acting in self-defense and his case meets Florida's "stand your ground" law criteria, he will be immune from criminal prosecution and civil action in connection with the deadly shooting, according to The Associated Press. If not, he will be tried on a second-degree murder charge for the death of Oulson."

Even if this gutless piece of shit is exonerated, he has to live with this murder the rest of his life.

"An off-duty California officer fired his weapon in a confrontation with a group of teens Tuesday afternoon in an incident that was captured on video. In the wake of the encounter, the officer has been placed on administrative leave, according to the LAPD."

"The officer is cooperating with the ongoing investigation and will not be arrested at this time, Anaheim police said. After the investigation is complete, the case will be forwarded to the Orange County District Attorney's Office."

Where it will likely be rubber stamped in favor of the jackbooted thug. Special treatment not afforded his victims. He's believed by his colleagues. Taken at his word. Not so, his victims.

"The encounter began in front of the officer's Anaheim home stemming from ongoing issues with juveniles walking across his property, the Anaheim Police Department said in a press release."

That justifies not only brandishing, but firing his weapon?

"Anaheim police said a 13-year-old boy allegedly threatened to shoot the officer, who then attempted to detain the boy until police arrived, sparking a physical confrontation. But the boy's mother disputes that -- saying her son said he was going to sue, not shoot, the officer."

Is there audio? If not, why should the cop be taken at his word? They lie all the time to cover their ass. Justify egregious malfeasance.

"In the video, which was posted on YouTube and later removed, the off-duty cop can be seen grabbing the 13-year-old by his backpack. A group of teens surrounds the pair as they argue. At one point, the 13-year-old falls with the officer, who then attempts to drag the 13-year-old across a manicured hedge separating two homes, according to the video."

This, standard police procedure?

"When cops arrived, the officer admitted to discharging his firearm, police said. No one was injured by the gunfire. Two teens were arrested -- one on charges of criminal threats and battery and another for assault and battery, police said."

The cop gets a free pass. Why wouldn't he? Forget? We live in a goddamned fascist police-state. They take the word of the jackbooted thug over that of other witnesses at the scene. The American Way.

"An Anaheim woman, who claims to be the 13-year-old's mother, described the video as "devastating" and "disturbing" on Facebook. "I want prevention," she wrote. "No one called the police. The two adults in the video wanted to take matter[s] into their own hands." She wrote that she and her son have retained an attorney and requested that anyone with additional footage to come forward."

No one should have been arrested until police conducted and concluded a bona fide investigation. Instead, they believed the jackbooted thug. Arrested the kid. If the kid is indeed innocent, sue the living shit out of the thug, his department, and the city. When taxpayers get tired of repeatedly financing settlements, this shit will end.

In follow up to the above, ABC News reports:

"The Los Angeles Police Department has named the officer who was angry with teens walking on his yard and discharged a gun during a scuffle with them outside his home in suburban Anaheim. Police spokesman Captain Andy Neiman said Monday Officer Kevin Ferguson is back on the job but not working the streets. Officials tell the Los Angeles Times (http://lat.ms/2m2ww7n) that Ferguson works at the Hollywood Division but did not provide details of his assignment."

"A 19-year-old white man accused of kicking a coat hanger up the rectum of a mentally disabled black teammate received no jail time at his sentencing on Friday. Former high school football player John R. K. Howard entered a so-called "Alford plea," meaning he maintains his innocence while admitting a judge or jury would likely find him guilty. He was sentenced to probation and community service, and his conviction might be entirely dismissed at a later date."

This is now considered 'justice' in racist Idaho.

"The Twin Falls Times-News writes that supporters of the black player see the sentencing as "a slap on the wrist for a privileged white teen who preyed on a disabled teammate from the only black family in town."

Bigotry gone wild.

"Howard, who pleaded guilty to felony injury of a child, had originally been charged with sexual assault. But prosecutors later decided that, while they were confident they could prove Howard kicked the coat hanger into his teammate's rectum, the act did not constitute a sex crime. District Judge Randy Stoker agreed, and approved the plea deal for a lesser charge in December."

Not a sex crime? A compadre inserts the coat hanger up the rectum of the victim and this f--ked up, perverse son of a bitch then gives it a swift kick, -- and it is not considered a sex crime?

"'Pain that I have never felt took over my body,' he said during the April hearing, according to the transcript obtained by the Guardian. 'I screamed, but afterwards, I kept it to myself.'"

"Charles Collins and his wife, Joyce, were cruising down one of the main streets in Milwaukee's North Side one spring evening in 2014, headed home after a day of babysitting their infant granddaughter. They had just dropped the little girl off with his son. "You know how you have a leisurely ride?" Collins said this week by telephone. "That's just what we were doing, just enjoying my lady."

Not possible in a fascist police-state where profiling remains ubiquitous.

"A police cruiser with two officers in it signaled for their car to pull over. Collins, then 64, worried that he was about to get a ticket. "At the time, [the officer] said, 'I'm not the ticket police,' and I said, 'OK — I'm good with that,'" he chuckled as he told me this part of the story. But if he wasn't being pulled over for a moving violation, why were the police stopping him?"

No probable cause for the stop. An illegal stop. Profiling.

"The officer took his identification, went back to the cruiser and returned a few minutes later. They told the couple they were free to go. They did not receive a citation, summons or explanation."

Profiling.

"Collins, a Milwaukeean for most of his life, had been stopped by the Milwaukee police before, as had his son, whom he described as a straight arrow. For black men here, he says, encounters with the police are a rite of passage. "That shouldn't be your normal, but that's what it was," Collins said."

This time, he finally did something about it.

"Collins was unnerved enough by those stops that he joined a lawsuit filed this week by the ACLU against the city's police department. The civil liberties group argues that these police stops were baseless and unconstitutional and targeted black and Latino men. They pointed to available records for police stops in Milwaukee from 2010 to 2012 and found that officers there had made hundreds of thousands of stops of pedestrians or motorists. The majority — 72 percent — were stops of black non-Hispanic people. (The city's population is about 34 percent black non-Hispanic, according to the most recent census data.)"

Never ends.

"In most instances of stop-and-frisk, officers canvass certain neighborhoods to stop and question pedestrians and motorists they deem suspicious; if the officers suspect the person they stopped is carrying contraband, like drugs or guns, they can proceed to frisk them."

"Santa Cruz, a coastal college town of about 60,000 people, is a so-called sanctuary city, which prohibits its police from cooperating with federal authorities investigating immigration violations. Police Chief Kevin Vogel and Assistant Chief Dan Flippo said at a news conference that the federal officials lied when they assured them a Feb. 13 joint operation in the region would not include immigration-related arrests during the raid on the gang known by the names MS-13 and Mara Salvatrucha."

They did. Despite strong assertions to the contrary by ICE. -- Got caught with their hand in the cookie jar. ... Then lied about it.

"Flippo said he didn't learn of the immigration arrests until the next night when dozens of protesters disrupted a City Council meeting to voice their displeasure."

Surprise, surprise. A wake up call.

"Vogel said the department no longer trusts the Department of Homeland Security, which includes ICE, and will no longer work with the agency. "We can't cooperate with a law enforcement agency we cannot trust," Vogel said."

Sadly, a lack of trust in all law enforcement is exponentially increasing across the country. With damned good reason. They lie, cheat, steal, abuse, and murder on the job. Not all of them, but way too many.

Consider the following. Get this. NPR reports:

"Officials in Los Angeles have asked Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents working in the city not to identify themselves as police. "In Los Angeles, the term 'police' is synonymous with the Los Angeles Police Department, so for ICE agents to represent themselves as police misleads the public into believing they are interacting with LAPD. This is especially corrosive given that to advance public safety, the LAPD does not initiate police action with the objective of determining a person's immigration status."

Fascinating, isn't it? At least some local law enforcement is beginning to wake up.

There is growing resistance by law enforcement to enforce federal immigration law. CBS News reports:

"The White House has spelled out its new guidelines for attacking illegal immigration, but it’s still unclear how authorities will target and deport people who are living in the U.S. illegally. CBS News correspondent Carter Evans went directly to the front lines of the nation’s border wars to see how local law enforcement in Arizona is handling the issue. The sheriff in Pima County is welcoming the president’s plan to immediately hire 5,000 more border patrol agents. But the White House is also asking for immigration enforcement on a local level. In Pima County, they say they’ve already got their hands full."

Interesting, isn't it? Especially, coming from a sheriff in a Republican state.

"Mark Napier is Pima County’s newly-elected Republican sheriff. “That’s not a problem for a local sheriff. My responsibility is public safety in this county,” Napier said."

That's right. Remains a federal, not state issue.

"The Department of Homeland Security is now asking local law enforcement to go a step further by voluntarily acting as an “’immigration officer’ for purposes of enforcing federal immigration law.”

Goddamned unconstitutional bullshit. Cleverly, designed to further consolidate Executive power, extend the fascist police-state we already live in. Establish The Fourth Reich.

“We have our plate full. Our jail is nearly full, and I don’t have excess deputies,” Napier said. Napier’s 500 sworn officers protect roughly a million residents across 9,000 square miles along the southern border. But even if he had more resources, he still said it’s the federal government’s job."

That's right. It is.

“If your deputies are viewed as immigration enforcers, how does that impact their ability to do their job?” Carter asked. “First of all, we wouldn’t get a lot of the calls we get where people witness crimes or are victims of crime…out of fear that would lead to deportation,” Napier said."

This is the issue. Heart of the matter. Cooperating with federal goons as proxy immigration officers, local law enforcement would lose all credibility. Crimes against the undocumented would go unreported. Leading to an increase in crime across the board.

It's not like the Sheriff and his officers are not already cooperating with ICE, however:

"So unless there’s a federal mandate ordering them to take undocumented immigrants into custody, the Pima County sheriff’s department will continue to turn them over to border patrol."

"The Trump administration’s pursuit of unauthorized immigrants may have hit a wall in New York City. City Police Commissioner James O’Neill told officers in an internal memo that the department would not enforce administrative warrants issued by federal immigration agents."

Interesting, isn't it? Moreover, there's good reason:

"It is critical that everyone who comes into contact with the NYPD, regardless of their immigration status, be able to identify themselves or seek assistance without hesitation, anxiety or fear," O’Neill wrote in the memo obtained by ABC News."

Again, this is the problem. Would lead to crimes against the undocumented going unreported, uninvestigated.

"The NYPD does not conduct civil immigration enforcement," the memo to rank-and-file officers said. "Specifically, this department does not enforce administrative warrants issued by Immigration and Custom Enforcement agents or federal immigration judges solely in connection with civil immigration violations.”

This is reasonable, prudent policy. Certainly, in the best interest of all involved. That is, police, the undocumented, as well as the general public who would see an increase in crime that would go uninvestigated.

"O’Neill’s memo doesn’t represent any change in NYPD policy. But in light of a federal plan for more aggressive immigration enforcement, New York City’s police commissioner wanted to clarify his department’s policy, both to alleviate any concerns in the city’s immigrant communities and to remind police officers, sources told ABC News."

Wise move. Yet, there will be court battles ahead:

"Still, the NYPD policy may put the nation’s largest police force at odds with the federal Department of Homeland Security, which this week outlined a more aggressive approach to enforcing the nation’s immigration laws."

"Dash cam video captured how a rookie Glenn Heights police officer quickly moved a burning truck from a Jack in the Box drive-thru. The fire happened Saturday night at the restaurant in the 1700 block of S. Beckley Road around 9:15 p.m. Officer Chris Womack says he had just finished dinner with his wife when he heard the call about a vehicle on fire nearby. He rushed over to the restaurant and saw the truck on fire, dangerously close to the restaurant in the drive-thru. That was when he decided to use his patrol vehicle to push the truck away."

Indeed, a dangerous place for a vehicle fire.

"The driver of the truck says the fire began in the engine. He was able to get his wife and daughter out of the truck safely before it burst into flames. And thanks to the officer’s quick thinking, nobody in the restaurant or the drive-thru was injured."

A cop in trouble with no backup certainly needs a helping hand from the public. Can be extremely dangerous, moreover, but there are people willing to put their lives on the line. The following is the story of an exceptionally heroic woman who did precisely that. CBS News reports:

"Vickie Williams-Tillman was on her way to run some errands when she noticed a police officer on the side of a road engaged in a heated conversation with a man outside of his car. Police said that as the officer tried to secure the man in handcuffs, the driver became aggressive."

An extremely dangerous situation for a cop alone without backup.

"Williams-Tillman, 56, began to brake and rolled down her car window to ask the officer if he needed help. Before he could answer, she saw the suspect leap toward the officer. Without hesitating, the woman dialed 911. But when police say the suspect took the officer’s baton and began to repeatedly hit the officer in the head with it, Williams-Tillman couldn’t just sit back and wait. Instead, she jumped out of her vehicle and onto the suspect’s back."

... Talk about having someone's back...literally.

“Risking her own safety she jumped out of her vehicle and onto the back of the 28-year old assailant,” the Baton Rouge Police Department said in a statement. “Ms. Williams-Tillman was able to help hold off the assailant until other officers arrived.”

Exceptional courage. Uncommon valor. Could have been killed or badly injured. Yet, stepped up. Rose to the occasion.

"Williams-Tillman said she wasn’t concerned about her safety at the time, she was solely focused on helping the officer. “It was something that went through my soul,” Williams-Tillman told the Baton Rouge newspaper The Advocate. “You don’t think about the risk.” The police officer, whose name was not made public, was treated at a local hospital and released Sunday, the paper reported."

A good day for the officer. A good day for the department. A good day for Ms. Williams-Tillman. A good day for justice.

“For going above and beyond in that moment to help our officer and possibly save his life we are forever grateful to you Ms. Vickie! For showing so much love and concern for one of our officers BRPDSalutes you,” the police department said."

"A family was able to escape their burning home in the middle of the night unscathed, thanks to their favorite furry feline. The family’s cat was the first to notice the flames at around 3:30 a.m. on Thursday. The parents and two children were sleeping when the cat apparently pawed its way into its owner’s bedroom and bit the mother on the arm to warn her, the Edmonton Journal reported."

Who says cats and dogs don't think?

"The County of Grande Prairie Fire Department in Alberta, Canada confirmed the cat was partially responsible for the rescue. Members of the County of Grand Prairie Fire Department in Clairmont, Canada, rescued two cats from the house fire."

“A cat is being credited with alerting a family to a fire in their home early this morning,” County of Grande Prairie Fire Chief Trevor Grant said in a news statement. “The family escaped the home without any injuries.”

"Orlando police Officer Rich Cruz and recruit Officer Gus Goncalves made a well-being check on an elderly woman, but ended up doing some extra. The officers went to the house after they were told that the woman had not eaten for a while. The house was very clean and the pantry was full of food. The officers decided to make her eggs for breakfast and even did the dishes when the woman finished her meal. More importantly, the officers stayed with the woman and chatted with her for a while."

The next story dates back to the end of January. The officers went well above and beyond. KXLY reports:

"Some of the first responders to Keith Myers' massive heart attack included Spokane police officers-- who caught the whole thing on bodycam video. Thursday, Myers got to thank one of those officers for taking care of him and his panic-stricken wife-- as doctors brought him back from the dead. By the time officers responded to Fourth and Maple, good Samaritans including off duty Spokane Valley battalion chief Rich Llewellyn had joined the fight to keep Keith Myers alive. An onlooker explained that responders opened Keith's door, pulled him outside, got him on the ground and started to perform CPR. The CPR kept Myers' brain from dying from lack of oxygen until paramedics were miraculously able to get his heart beating again."

They went much further than that:

"While a tow seemed like the best way to get traffic flowing, officer Chris Kirn decided to move the van into a parking lot and reach out to Myers' wife, Dianna. “He came here and gave me the keys to the car and and explained what had happened and where it was, and he put me in his car and drove me to the parking lot where the van was,” said Dianna."

Above and beyond.

"Officer Kirn not only spared the Myers losing their only car to an expensive impound lot, but comforted Dianna on the way back to the scene. “He gave me a sense of calmness where I could actually focus on what I needed to do,” she said."

"A young girl suffering with Neuroblastoma, a rare form of cancer that affects the nervous system, is on the force after she was named an honorary Atlanta Police officer. Karma Lilly Little, a patient at the Children's Health Care of Atlanta, was named to the force Thursday as several officers showed up to swear her in."

Police seldom display discretion any longer when it comes to ticket writing. The reason? Lines government coffers. CBS Boston reports:

"Fighting city hall over a ticket, but it has nothing to do with a car. The ticket is for not clearing snow from the sidewalk, and in this case it carries a $200 price tag. The city of Boston has fined hundreds of residents and businesses over the last week. The message: We know shoveling is a pain, but it’s also a safety issue."

Readers should understand city sidewalks are owned by the city, not property owners. Yet, property owners are required to maintain city sidewalks. Then again, no one truly owns real estate anyway. The government does. Don't pay the taxes, which are no more than rent payment to government, you lose the property you never truly owned. Clever, isn't it. Gets worse:

"Seventy-six year old Lorraine Walsh has lived in South Boston most of her life. She actually likes to shovel. But the freezing conditions after the last couple of storms made it tough."

Didn't matter to city officials. They couldn't care less. Forget? An opportunity to loot 200 bucks, line city coffers. Has nothing to do with safety in reality. The bastards who run and own government couldn't care less about safety. What they do care about is endless opportunities to loot.

“Really windy if you remember. Fifty five miles an hour all the next day,” she says. She shoveled what she could and threw down ice melter, but then found an unwelcome surprise in her door- a ticket for $200. “I don’t think it was fair because it was icy and it was difficult to get up,” she says."

If the goddamned city wants their sidewalks shoveled, let them have city workers do it. After all, property owners are already severely looted for property taxes that are no more than confiscatory. Insult to injury? Get virtually nothing from government for these taxes in terms of alleged 'services' provided.

“The rules are, three hours after a snowstorm we’re asking residents to shovel their sidewalks and businesses to shovel their sidewalks and if you can’t shovel it, get somebody to shovel it for you,” says Boston Mayor Marty Walsh when we asked him about the case."

This Aryan arrogant, clueless piece of shit needs to be recalled. This woman is 76 years old. May not have had the money to have it shoveled, to say nothing of the 200 bucks the goddamned city wanted to loot her for the fine.

“I do intend to call and I will write an appeal letter. We’ve never had a ticket like this before so I don’t know how strict they are with it, and whether I have a chance of appealing it or not, but I hope,” Lorraine says."

"An interracial Connecticut couple who discovered racist graffiti on their home is being fined $100 a day for refusing to remove the offensive language until police conduct a thorough investigation. Heather Lindsay, who is white, told the paper that she and her husband, Lexene Charles, who is black, have been the target of racism in their neighborhood before. “That’s why we’re leaving it up,” she said. “Because I’ve had it.” Mrs. Lindsay said she wants the police to “do their job” and “not just cover it up and sweep it under the table as they have done in the past."

Sad, isn't it? Needless to say, that didn't sit well with authorities.

“This is a racist community,” she added. “It’s just gotten more and more aggressive.” The City of Stamford has issued the couple a blight citation, which carries a $100 daily fine, for failing to remove the graffiti from their home."

"Police said the incident is still under investigation, but no witnesses have come forward. Police Chief Jonathan Fontneau said the couple turned down the department’s repeated offers to remove the graffiti for free."

“The neighbors were very upset when the incident occurred and truly felt for the couple,” Ted Jankowski, the city’s director of public safety, told the Stamford Advocate. “However, the residents who have condemned the racial incident are upset and are complaining about continuing to see the racial slur and how it is disturbing the peace in the quiet neighborhood.”

"Wildhaber said in the lawsuit that nearly all of his peers were promoted even though he ranked third in promotions tests and received "superior" ratings in all categories in performance reviews."

The sergeant alleges that John Saracino, a member of the department's civilian police board in 2014, told him that his being gay was a problem. "The command staff has a problem with your sexuality. If you ever want to see a white shirt (get a promotion), you should tone down your gayness," Saracino allegedly told Wildhaber."

"On Wednesday, Saracino denied that allegation. "I never had a conversation like that," Saracino said. "I would never say anything like that. That's not me."

One day before his death, Robertson's family filed a nine-count federal lawsuit, alleging excessive use of force among other wrongdoing, against the railway and transit officer."

"Earlier this month, Robertson was taking a Megabus from Memphis, Tennessee, to Minneapolis when an altercation between him and the officers occurred during a one-hour layover in Chicago, the suit alleges. Tankson and another officer were "aggressive" and harassed Robertson and two other individuals, followed them to a nearby restaurant and demanded to search them, according to the suit."

"Robertson "feared for his life and began to run," which prompted Tankson to "calmly drop to one knee" and fire a shot striking him in the back."

Those searches included both U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents returning to their homes, as well as visitors and new immigrants arriving."

"The senior official said searches netted everything from child pornography to evidence of terrorism ties — though the official couldn’t say how many of the 23,877 device searches conducted in 2016 did expose criminal behavior. According to the El Paso Times, the boyfriend is in custody on other charges."

"US immigration officials have detained a 23-year-old man from Washington state, who was authorized to remain in the country under a program established by the Obama administration. The man, Daniel Ramirez Medina, has twice been granted deferred action and employment authorization under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, his lawyers said. The program, announced in 2012, is meant to temporarily shield qualified individuals from deportation."

Apparently, the Trump nazi and his henchmen do not recognize DACA despite their assertions to the contrary.

"The case raises questions about what it could mean for Dreamers, undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children. Ramirez came to the US from Mexico when he was 7 years old and became a DACA recipient in 2014 and renewed in 2016, according to court papers filed by his attorneys. Immigration rights groups say they believe this may be the first time a Dreamer has been arrested without cause."

"Ramirez's lawyers have filed suit in federal court saying their client is being unlawfully held by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials. There is a growing movement in the church community to provide sanctuary to immigrants. CNN reports:

"Since Trump was elected in November, the number of churches in the United States willing to offer sanctuary has doubled to 800, according to the Rev. Noel Anderson, national grassroots coordinator at Church World Service, a faith-based organization that helps the less fortunate. "The faith community in general, after the election, were looking for 'what can we do' to support the immigrant community," Anderson said. "And the sanctuary movement offered a concrete way for people to respond and show support and solidarity with undocumented people." The movement has spread beyond churches. More than 6,000 Americans have signed a pledge through Groundswell, an online social action platform, agreeing to open up their homes, churches, schools, hospitals, college campuses and community centers to immigrants in fear."

This is truly heroic considering the fact that aiding an illegal immigrant is reportedly a felony punishable by prison time and a fine.

"Any church or group can pledge to become a sanctuary. But that doesn't mean the immigrants they shelter are protected from deportation. "The Immigration and Nationality law doesn't use the word sanctuary at all," said Leon Fresco, a former assistant attorney general at the Department of Justice's Office of Immigration Litigation. "It (sanctuary church) is more of a political term."

Interesting, isn't it?

"There also is a criminal law that prohibits harboring an undocumented immigrant. But Fresco doubts anyone would exercise it to go after a priest or a pastor. "I don't think I've ever seen a church that has ever been prosecuted for harboring; but certainly the law permits that," he told CNN. "I don't know what jury you could get to convict somebody in that situation," Fresco added. "It could end up being more damaging than anything else."

"Firefighters rescued a man who was trapped inside of a garbage truck in Tampa on Wednesday morning. At 5:15 a.m. the driver of a Waste Management truck was making rounds and heard a man calling for help. The driver realized the screams were coming from his truck. Sometime during his morning route, a man who was sleeping in a dumpster, was deposited into the garbage truck along with the contents of the dumpster."

Not the first time this has happened in the United States. Likely, sadly, not the last.

"Tampa Police Department officers and Tampa Fire Rescue crews used heavy equipment to pull the man from the garbage truck, which was parked at a shopping center along Hillsborough Avenue west of Dale Mabry Highway. The man was strapped to a stretcher, then hoisted out of the garbage truck, at 6:45 a.m. It appears as though the man will be okay. He is being evaluated now."

"A Florida sheriff’s deputy accused of trying to kill a woman he allegedly had been defrauding is now facing more charges, and new police internal review alleges another woman paid him for sex, reports CBS affiliate WTSP. Sarasota County Sheriff Tom Knight said last month that 46-year-old Deputy Frankie Bybee had befriended the victim, a 79-year-old Sarasota woman, while responding to a service call in October."

This is one of the saddest cases of police malfeasance in quite some time. Was covered here and elsewhere not too long ago. Fortunately, the woman survived the attack. The son of a bitch was arrested. Not the end of the story, however.

"Knight said when the woman entrusted Bybee -- an 18-year agency veteran and married father of three -- with her dog, the deputy sold the dog through Craigslist. The dog has reportedly since been reunited with the woman."

"Knight said Bybee was placed on administrative leave after the deputy’s fingerprint was found on checks totaling $65,000 that the victim said had been fraudulently signed. The woman lost consciousness, but later awoke and called for help."

He now faces a total of 25 charges including attempted murder, the paper reports."

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation did not release Nelson's race or any information about the Mount Pleasant officer."

The Metro Nashville Police Department confirmed “with heavy hearts” in a tweet around 8 a.m. that a fire department diver found the body of 44-year-old Eric Mumaw. Police said Mumaw was an 18-year veteran of the department, “who gave his life this morning in service to Nashville.”

Hat's off to this exceptional officer. Condolences to his family and the department. This is a complicated case.

"Police spokesman Don Aaron said during a news conference earlier Thursday that two officers were responding about 4:30 a.m. Thursday to a call about a 40-year-old woman who relatives said was contemplating suicide. He said they found the woman in a car on the boat ramp near the water’s edge. Aaron said it appeared that she was about to get out of the car to go with officers when the vehicle went into gear and rolled down the ramp, which ended abruptly under the water. “The two officers as the car was rolling tried to make heroic efforts to save the woman who was in the vehicle,” Aaron said, but both officers slipped into the river. One was able to get back to the bank. Aaron said that officer tried to grab the other officer but was unsuccessful. He said crews found the woman from the car about an hour later on the riverbank and she was taken to a hospital for treatment."

"A woman will be facing criminal charges after an alleged suicide attempt resulted in the death of a Metro police officer. Juli Glisson, 40, is going to be charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department. Investigators say Glisson was "legally drunk" when she was behind the wheel of the car. Glisson was taken to the hospital after being found on the riverbank after escaping from her car and swimming to safety. Police said a warrant has been issued for her arrest and she will be taken into custody when she is discharged from the hospital."

"Authorities say a sergeant has died after inhaling toxic chemicals while trying to rescue a worker at a medical facility in Georgia. CBS affiliate WRDW reports that the Richmond County Coroner says Sgt. Greg Meagher, 57, was pronounced dead at 4:33 Sunday afternoon at Augusta University Medical Center. The coroner reports that Meagher was trying to rescue a Xytex worker when he was overcome by chemicals, the station reports. Officials believe he inhaled liquid nitrogen."

Condolences to his family and the department.

"The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says Sgt. Greg Meagher is the same officer who was shot in the face back in 2004, WRDW reports."

"In the South Austin neighborhood of Chicago, two police officers went above and beyond the call of duty, and their act of kindness has now gone viral. Chicago police officer Peter White saw a man three weeks ago and this week, he made good on a promise of a warm coat. White placed the jacket over the man's much lighter coat, helped him push his arms through the sleeves, and he even checked the fit and zipped it up for him. It was an act of kindness the officer didn't know was being recorded. "I got out and gave him the jacket, and he thanked me and I got back in the car. He sent it to me, I sent it to my wife and his friends and my friends,” White said." Officer Bob Osborne shared the video on social media and it picked up steam, being viewed hundreds of thousands of times. They say it's an opportunity often not caught on camera and something that lifts spirits within the police department and with the public."

There's more to the story:

"We wrote him a ticket the time we stopped him. We still did our job. But, when we went back, you know the human always still comes out,” Osborne said. The officers saw the man didn't have a warm jacket. So, it inspired them to grab one and hold onto it in case they saw him again. “He's out there panhandling and does whatever he can to stay warm and fed, but I don't think that he gets people actually truly caring. And it felt nice for us, but I think he was appreciative himself that as not only just people, but as police officers we showed that we kept our word,” White added."

They had the discretion not to have written him a ticket in the first place. Yet, did so. A chicken shit 'offense' committed by someone desperately trying to survive. The two officers seem to be grandstanding to improve the image of an exceptionally badly tarnished Chicago Police Department. "A man whose jaw was broken when he was kicked by a Dover [Del] police officer received $300,000 to settle a lawsuit filed on his behalf by the American Civil Liberties Union."

"A sergeant in central Minnesota has been charged for stalking after allegedly sending threatening texts to a man in Willmar and entering his home uninvited. According to the criminal complaint, Sgt. Joel Engler of the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office has been charged with two counts of gross misdemeanor stalking. The complaint states Eric Ernhart contacted the sheriff’s office in September to report harassment by Engler. Ernhart told investigators Engler “has been obsessed with him for the past several years.”

The National Task Force on Fines, Fees and Bail Practices on Friday issued a "bench card" — a clear set of instructions — to be used by state judges across the country. The two-page set of guidelines, which judges can keep at their fingertips on the bench, tell judges that they're only allowed to send people to jail for non-payment when they have the means to pay, but "willfully" refuse to pay. The instructions spell out how to determine who falls below the poverty line, and how to come up with alternative sanctions, like reducing a fine, extending the time to pay it, or requiring community service, instead."

"Jill Marie Myers of McAllen, Texas, admitted she falsified bank records at the branch where she worked at as a teller supervisor in order to conceal the theft. The DOJ said that her duties included verifying the amount of currency on hand and entering the total in the bank's general ledger at the end of the day."

Having worked in a bank as a teller decades ago while attending college, this doesn't seem possible. Internal auditing is constant, multi-level. So too is that conducted by bank regulators, including unannounced visits. -- There had to have been massive collusion for it not to have been discovered until recently:

Off-duty Officer Matthew Bowman would not have it -- and risked his life to make sure nobody else got hurt."

Amazing drivers would even attempt something like this. About as stupid and deadly as going around a warning sign on a flooded road. ... Had read some time in the past a gallon of gasoline has the energy equivalent of a stick of dynamite.

“It was pretty intense. It all happened so fast,” Bowman told Fox News on Tuesday. “I saw the tanker explode and it took me a minute to get off the road and out of my truck.”

Amazing how fast and deadly a tanker truck accident can be.

"Bowman, a 29-year-old officer with the Sunbury Police Department, said he took out his phone and got about one minute of footage before he could feel the heat of the fire from inside his truck. It was at that moment that instinct took over and he wanted to make sure other drivers were safe. “The fire spread quickly and I wanted to make sure people stayed back – the further back they were the better,” he added."

Indeed. A change in the wind could have been disastrous.

"Some vehicles stopped but others were stubborn and wanted to go around them and keep driving, he said. “But once I told them I was serious and doing it for their safety, they stopped,” Bowman said. The explosion killed the driver of the tanker."

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood had harsh words for Braman, calling him a "thieving idiot" in an interview with the Daytona Beach News-Journal. "He represents an infinitesimal number of bad cops around the country but when this gets played in the news it makes everyone who wears the badge have to defend themselves against the actions of this idiot," Chitwood told the News-Journal."

"The bodycam footage from a white Fort Worth police officer's controversial arrest of a black woman who called 911 last month has been released by the woman's legal team. On Dec. 21, Jacqueline Craig and two of her daughters were arrested by Fort Worth Police Officer William Martin after Craig called police to complain about a neighbor who had allegedly choked her son, according to her attorneys. Cellphone video of part of the incident was posted on Facebook, sparking outrage in the Fort Worth community."

The recently released bodycam video is a classical example of egregious police brutality. The jackbooted bastard in blue is a savage. Yet, has not been charged.

"On Thursday, the Fort Worth Police Department announced that charges against Craig and Hymond had been dropped. Those charges included resisting arrest, Merritt said. It is unclear if charges were also filed against Craig's 15-year-old daughter and if those charges were dropped. Povero declined to discuss those details since she is a juvenile."

The first charges quoted above were dropped because they were bogus, trumped up to cover the jackbooted bastard in blue's sorry ass.

"Vardi [neighbor who assaulted the kid] was issued a citation for assault by contact "as a result of his actions in the initial incident," police said in a press release Thursday."

What took so long?

"Fort Worth Police Chief Joel Fitzgerald told ABC Dallas-Fort Worth affiliate WFAA Thursday that he consulted with the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office when deciding the appropriate citation for Vardi. However, Craig's attorneys compared his class-C misdemeanor citation to that of a speeding ticket. The citation carries a maximum fine of $500, and they believe that Vardi should have been charged with felony assault, they said."

"It’s been more than 75 years since an armed posse of white men snatched Austin Callaway from the LaGrange [GA] city jail, drove through darkness to a country road and killed him with gunshots to the head, arms and hands."

While the above is horrendous and there has been some change over the years, things are far from what they should be.

"There was no effort to identify his killers, no criminal investigation and no discussion by city police about their complicity in the lynching of the young African-American man. In essence, Callaway’s death was scrubbed from the city record."

Most certainly will, if industry and the engineering community are pressured.

No indication of what the investigation was about, or why she was honorably discharged under such cloud.

"As has been previously reported in the media, the City of Pflugerville City Attorney's Office has been conducting an internal investigation of actions of Pflugerville Police Lieutenant Laura Wilkes," she said. "The investigation is not yet complete, nor has it been reviewed by myself or city management. However, with Lieutenant Wildes' departure the investigation is now administratively closed."

"Detective and patrol deputy Frankie Bybee was arrested on Monday and charged with grand theft, exploitation of the elderly and attempted murder, officials said. Sarasota County Sheriff Tom Knight laid out the dramatic allegations against the 18-year sheriff's veteran at a news conference on Monday, saying his actions were a "disgrace" to law enforcement professionals everywhere."

She lost consciousness and called for help when she awoke."

Once again, the national socialist, fascist Governor of the not-so-great State of Texas has egregiously disgraced himself. Put his nose where it does not belong. Has no authority to intervene in a matter of federal jurisdiction. Doesn't stop him from trying, however. ABC News reports:

"Travis County Sheriff Sally Hernandez announced last week she is scaling back the amount of aid her department provides federal immigration agents in detaining suspects who might be in the country illegally, the Austin American-Statesman reported."

Why shouldn't she? This is a federal, not state matter.

"Effective Feb. 1, sheriff's officials will honor so-called immigration holds or "detainers" placed by federal authorities only when a suspect is booked into the Travis County Jail on charges of capital murder, aggravated sexual assault and "continuous smuggling of persons."

Sounds reasonable, doesn't it? Not to our nazi Governor and his Republican henchmen in the Legislature, however.

"Otherwise, federal agents must have a court order or arrest warrant signed by a judge for the jail to continue housing a person whose immigration status is in question."

Why the hell shouldn't they have a warrant? Who the hell is the State of Texas to do the federal government's dirty work? How often are border agents on fishing expeditions? Harassing innocent citizens on their immigration status? ... To get their cookies off abusing power?

"Hernandez's announcement came as Texas Republicans are gearing up for a new fight to ban so-called sanctuary cities in the current legislative session."

Should they do this and our goddamned nazi Governor signs it into law? A federal lawsuit should be immediately filed.

How many people have been falsely detained by ICE, including American citizens? To what end? To get their cookies off abusing power? Finally, we have a sheriff courageously willing to stand up against the ruse. Good for her. Good for the public. Good for the Constitution including the Bill of Rights. Good for justice and the rule of law. Instead of a goddamned fascist police-state as envisioned by Republican national socialists.

"Abbott, who attended President Donald Trump’s inauguration on Friday, is now effectively threatening to carry out Trump’s promise to stop all federal dollars to places where local officials rebuff federal agents and don't arrest or detain immigrants living in the country illegally on the state level. This is precisely why protest needs to be ferocious, but peaceful. If you don't stand up to a nazi, you get exactly what you truly deserve.

That's goddamned outrageous. Achingly, un-American. When ICE asks local police to detain someone about to be released for further investigation of immigration status, does a judge sign off on it? Do federal agents present a warrant before given access to local jail records? Are they required to at least make a formal open records request? Or, are they granted carte blanche to all jail records?

That's the most she should do. Only, what's in the public's best interest. Not that of the Nazi Republican Right.
