As always, when a cop does something heroic and/or of exceptional benefit to the community, it leads. Always. CBS Los Angeles reports:

"To say that Bill Davy was down on his luck is an understatement. He lost his mom, an apartment they shared and was about to lose his car, out of which he had been living for more than a year in Canoga Park. His car registration tag had expired by more than three years. When Davy learned late last month that the parking lot where he was camping out was kicking him out, he panicked and was afraid to drive it."

Indeed. Here, in Nazi Llano County would have quickly wound up in jail, car impounded.

"When Officer Duke Dao, who grew up in the San Fernando Valley, learned what Davy was up against, he offered to help instead of impounding Davy’s car."

Imagine that.

“It’s where I grew up,” the officer said as his eyes welled up with tears. “Seeing Bill like that, it really touched me.”

... Hey, Sheriff? Certainly doesn't sound like one of your goddamned jackbooted bastards, does it?

"Besides connecting Davy with transitional housing for the homeless, Officer Dao and the LAPD set up an account to raise money to get Davy’s car registered again. It would have cost him more than $800."

"In 24 hours, the fundraising site collected more than $1,100."

How about that?

"When the officer told Davy that his registration renewal fees will be paid for, Davy was lost for words and broke down in tears of joy. “He calls me his brother, and I call him my brother, too. I didn’t know I had a brother in the police department, but I do now,” Davy said. Dao was just as moved by the good news. “You want people to smile. You want people to move on. It’s a great feeling. I can’t describe it,” the officer said."

Stunning, isn't it? Certainly true there are good cops, great cops, caring cops out there. Not all are like the jackbooted pieces of shit in Llano County. ... Right, Sheriff? TL? "Sonny Boy?" Madam County Attorney?

"Davy now hopes he will be able to receive Supplemental Security Income benefits so he won’t have to live out of his car again."

There was a break-in early morning at the Buchanan Dam Volunteer Fire Department on January 13. Quite a bit of damage, theft, equipment destroyed. Another great story of a cop going well beyond the call of duty. CBS News reports:

"While patrolling in a town in Pennsylvania’s Lancaster County in the snow last Saturday, Sgt. Darrick Kepley happened across a one-car crash near the Pennsylvania Turnpike, southwest of Reading. “The wheel was lying next to the car,” Kepley said. “It was actually broken off from where they hit the raised curbing.”

Wouldn't have been of such great concern other than for the fact the vehicle was on a life saving mission.

"But this was a special “delivery.” The SUV was carrying a team of doctors and a critical cargo. “A transplant team,” Kepley explained. “A liver and kidneys from York Hospital to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.” There was not a moment to waste, with the liver recipient already on the operating room table, 70 miles away in Center City."

The cop did exactly what he had to do:

“So I turned on the lights and siren and we headed down the Turnpike to the Schuylkill [Expressway] and made it there,” Kepley said. “I think realizing what the donor and the donor’s family was going through or went through and knowing that the person in Philly was going to have a second chance, I figured it was time to go,” Kepley said."

Indeed.

"The doctors got to the hospital in time, and the surgery was a success. Kepley said he’s glad he was in the right place at the right time, even though his fellow officers were hoping he’d return with some precious cargo. “Everybody was looking for cheesesteaks,” he said, “but because of the roads I decided just to head back. Saving it for next time.”

Hat's off to the officer. Did what had to be done. ... Ever have a Philly cheesesteak? Nothing quite like it. ... Figuratively, indeed to 'die' for.

You're never too old to save a life. ABC News reports:

"Authorities credit an 85-year-old Texas man who walks with the aid of a cane for helping save the lives of two women whose speeding car flipped over onto his front yard and burst into flames. Texas Department of Public Safety officials say the 22-year-old driver likely was driving too fast as she rounded a bend early Sunday and lost control in Burleson, south of Fort Worth. Lindell Marbut witnessed the wreck, banged on the windshield with his cane and helped to pull the driver from the car as his caretaker called 911. The caretaker then helped him drag the passenger to safety."

Hat's off to both.

Yet another great story of a Good Samaritan saving a life. This time, that of a state trooper. CNN reports:

"An Arizona trooper who had been shot and was being beaten by a man with a pistol was saved Thursday by a motorist who killed his attacker, authorities said. The man who came upon the scene warned the suspect to stop striking the officer, but the assailant continued, said Capt. Damon Cecil, a spokesman for the Arizona Department of Public Safety. The good Samaritan got a gun from his car and shot the suspect, who died at the scene."

Thank God he was there to save the life of the officer.

"The trooper, a 27-year veteran, was shot in the chest and shoulder. He is in serious and stable condition, Cecil said."

What a piece of shit to to beat a man seriously shot, unable to fight back.

"Thanks for the thoughts and prayers this morning for our Trooper that was shot. Looks like he will be okay after some recovery @Arizona_DPS

Indeed, good news.

"Col. Frank Milstead, director of the Public Safety Department, said he would like to thank the man who stepped in. "I don't know that my trooper would be alive today without his assistance," he said, according to CNN affiliate KNXV-TV in Phoenix."

Hat's off. Sounded like an insane situation:

"Public safety spokesman Bart Graves said the incident began with the trooper responding to report of shots fired from the median of an unlit, rural section of Interstate 10 near Tonopah. The officer came across a vehicle that had rolled over and got out to investigate. While the trooper was setting flares, the suspect shot him. It was not clear where the suspect was when the officer pulled up. Milstead said at some point the suspect started beating the trooper, who was unable to use his right arm to defend himself. That's when the motorist pulled up and opened fire on the suspect. "It's fairly rare" that citizens who come to the aid of law enforcement officers use deadly force, Cecil said. Another motorist who stopped used the trooper's portable radio to call in the shooting."

Both men are to be commended for courageously doing the right thing.

In follow up to the above, CNN reports:

"Brian Schober was driving to his job in Yuma on Thursday when he came upon the bright lights of a stopped police SUV and a man waving his hands, asking for help. When Schober got out of his pickup truck, he saw two men on the pavement, both shot. One was Ed Andersson, an injured Arizona state trooper. The second was a man authorities said had been beating the trooper after shooting him twice. The man who flagged Schober down had fatally wounded that attacker minutes before Schober stopped to see what was going on. A woman was on the ground, too, having been ejected from a car that had crashed off the side of the highway. She died from her injuries."

Hell on earth.

"Schober, a 44-year-old engineer, got on the trooper's portable radio and calmly called for help. "Hello, officer down, officer down outside Tonopah," Schober says. "Come in, please. This is a civilian. He's shot on I-10 ... He's in real bad shape. Please send air support, helicopter, please." Schober tells the dispatcher there are two other people who need medical attention. Schober sent the good Samaritan's fiancee, who had placed a 911 call before Schober arrived, after the first aid kit in the trooper's SUV. "I think some of my EMT training came back. It's been 25 years, but some of it probably came back instinctively," Schober told CNN on Friday. Schober cleaned the officer's head wounds from the beating and searched for where a bullet hit the trooper's body. The first motorist, meanwhile, kept an eye on the unidentified suspect, who died at the scene just a few feet from the trooper."

Had the civilians not courageously stopped, the trooper would have died:

"The timing was everything. If the civilian had been there any later the cop would probably have bled out," Schober said. "If I hadn't been driving that way at that time, the authorities probably wouldn't have made it on time and the cop would have died. It was a two-pronged scenario, and we were there at that time for a reason."

Indeed. To save a life.

"Other emergency responders arrived at the scene about 5 a.m., Schober said. Once medics showed up with flashlights, we found the wound and saw the extent of his head injuries," he said. Authorities said the trooper was actually hit twice -- in the shoulder and chest. The trooper's surgery went well, Col. Frank Milstead, the director of the Arizona Department of Public Safety, tweeted. "He & family ask for privacy during recovery. Appreciates outpouring of support," Milstead wrote."

Incredibly courageous for these civilians to have stopped. Aided the trooper.

"Authorities do not know why the suspect shot the trooper, who was responding to a report of shots fired and happened upon the rollover crash. He was setting up flares when the suspect shot him, officials said."

Senseless.

"Moments later, the first motorist stopped at the scene. He had a gun in his truck and shot the man as he pistol-whipped the trooper, authorities said. The two witnesses were questioned separately until 3 p.m., Schober said. None of the other people involved in incident have been identified. The motorist who shot the suspect asked authorities to tell the media he doesn't want to give interviews. CNN's Samira Said and Keith Allen contributed to this report."

Hat's off. Job well done. Uncommon valor displayed by all involved including the trooper.

In follow up to the above, CBS reports:

"The man who shot and severely beat an Arizona state trooper last week was a former member of the Mexican federal police who was in the country illegally, authorities said. He had rolled his car on Interstate 10 before he inexplicably attacked the officer who had stopped to help. Leonard Pennelas-Escobar opened fire on Trooper Edward Andersson early Thursday after the officer had stopped on the interstate and set up flares in a bid to get motorists to slow down. Pennelas-Escobar said something in Spanish before shooting the trooper, and then he started landing blows with his fists and beating the trooper’s head on the ground, Department of Public Safety Director Frank Milstead said Monday."

A few more details as to how this went down:

"A passing motorist who witnessed the attack retrieved a handgun from his vehicle and fired two shots at Pennelas-Escobar after he refused an order to stop attacking Andersson. With Pennelas-Escobar incapacitated, the motorist tended to the wounded trooper but was later drawn back into the dispute when Pennelas-Escobar got up and resumed his assault on Andersson. The motorist then fired a fatal shot at Pennelas-Escobar."

Wake up, Sheriff. Again, where is dashcam video of the killing of Jeffrey Gray Wise, 52, of Austin by DPS and the Llano County Sheriff's Office? Thirty-nine weeks, now. A goddamned disgrace. Why are you still sitting on this information? What are you hiding, Sheriff? What is the identity of the officers who killed Wise? Too gutless to release this information to the public that pays your salary and that of your goons? Reportedly, there were three officers involved in the shooting.

Who are they, Sheriff? Their past history? An ongoing investigation remains a lame bullshit excuse. How can you and your goons be trusted when you refuse to disclose information? Thirty-nine weeks. Especially, your egregious failure to disclose the identity of the officers who pulled the trigger. To cover your sorry ass, Sheriff? Those of your thugs? The people have a right to know what happened, how it went down. You don't understand that, Sheriff? Sadly, clearly, you answer to no one. Including taxpayers. Especially, taxpayers.

Until you and your goons come clean, doubt will remain this was indeed a good shoot. The longer you drag your feet, the greater the doubt. Think not? Wake up. Your credibility has tanked. The Sheriff seems to have no clue the people who pay him and his goons are entitled to know whom is killing whom and why. This shit always seems to be swept under the carpet. Ignored. Did you know the Texas Attorney General does not have the authority to investigate and prosecute County authorities on his own? The District Attorney has to call for an investigation by the Texas Rangers. Then, the State can prosecute if it so chooses.

Consequently? Guess what? Nothing will happen. Nothing ever does. The goddamned corruption continues unabated until you, the public, pressure authorities. Interestingly, the former Sheriff and District Attorney were reportedly forced to retire after an outrageous scandal involving a drunk driving police officer from out of town. Including special treatment of the drunken son of a bitch that no other citizen caught doing the same would have been afforded. An honest, honorable Llano County Deputy suffered the consequences. Forget? Great officers do not last in this hell hole County. ... Right, Sheriff? TL? "Sonny Boy?" Madam County Attorney?

"Police in suburban Atlanta and Krispy Kreme officials say they're investigating a blog report that a police officer found the words "Black Lives Matter" written on his box of doughnuts when he went to pick them up."

Give me a break. An investigation? For what? A complaint to the corporation wouldn't have been sufficient?

"Smyrna police spokesman Louis Defense tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the agency is looking into the report and would release a statement once they have "vetted the issue."

Apparently, law enforcement there has too much time on its hands.

"Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders may not remember much about the rallies they each held last year in Green Bay, Wisconsin. But officials at Green Bay City Hall sure do. And they're miffed the three politicos have stiffed them on police protection bills totaling $24,000."

Wasn't Green Bay more than compensated in terms of business generated as a result of these rallies?

"At least three-dozen municipal governments and law enforcement agencies say presidential campaigns have ignored hundreds of thousands of dollars in outstanding bills stemming from police security for campaign events — from Vallejo, California, to the University of Pittsburgh. That's according to a Center for Public Integrity analysis of federal campaign disclosures and municipal invoices, as well as interviews with more than 60 local government officials."

Sounds like unbridled greed. These events generated enormous business income for these communities. To say nothing of sales tax revenue. How much is enough?

"Presidential campaigns asserted in communications with some city governments that they're not responsible for many security costs. But this widespread failure to pay follows an election season when many presidential candidates — particularly Trump — argued that law enforcement deserved both more resources and more respect."

Finally, a consent decree almost two years after the needless death of Freddie Gray. CNN reports:

"Nearly two years after Freddie Gray's death in police custody led to protests, Baltimore and the US Justice Department agreed to terms Thursday on sweeping police reforms that include cameras in all police transport vans. The 227-page consent decree comes after the Justice Department monitored Baltimore's policing methods for more than a year after the 2015 death of Gray, who suffered a fatal injury while being transported in a police van."

What took so long?

"But the troubled police department's problems went beyond its transport of prisoners. The decree also mandates community oversight; new recruitment policies; additional training on stops, searches and arrests; an emphasis on "de-escalation, using tactics that defuse incidents"; and sexual assault investigations that promote "victim-centered, trauma-informed approach and combat gender bias."

Still not enough. Nowhere near.

"Thursday announcement follows a scathing Justice Department report in August that said the unconstitutional practices of some of the city's 2,600 officers led to disproportionate rates of stops, searches and arrests of black residents, and excessive use of force against juveniles and those with mental health disabilities."

What's seriously lacking in all this? Not only in Baltimore but all over our formerly great nation? No willingness to prosecute, convict, imprison and/or execute the murderous jackbooted bastards in blue. Precisely why there has been no real change. Will be no real change. In follow up to earlier editions on outrageous abuses within the Chicago Police Department, ABC News reports:

"Federal investigators have determined that the Chicago Police Department has routinely violated the constitutional rights of citizens for years in numerous ways, such as using excessive force, permitting racially discriminatory conduct and shooting individuals who posed no immediate threats, the U.S. Department of Justice announced today."

This is going on all over the nation, including right here in Nazi Llano County.

“One of my highest priorities as attorney general has been to ensure that every American enjoys police protection that is lawful, responsive and transparent,” Attorney General Loretta Lynch said in a statement today in announcing the findings. “Sadly, our thorough investigation into the Chicago Police Department found that far too many residents of this proud city have not received that kind of policing.”

Again, this problem exists across the country.

"After a year-long probe into the city’s 12,000-officer police force, which began in December 2015 after the release of a dashcam video of a white officer’s shooting a black teen, the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the North District of Illinois today released a scathing 161-page report that details their findings of “systemic deficiencies” in training and accountability that investigators say have led to a pattern or practice of using force in violation of the Constitution."

The following is NPR's take on the report:

"Fleeing, unarmed people shot in the back. Mentally ill men and women, not suspected of any crime, immobilized by a Taser while they lay on the ground. People already detained or incapacitated who were beaten, with police accounts falsely describing the force as necessary. A 161-page report from the Justice Department details harrowing accounts of excessive force by the Chicago Police Department and highlights systemic failures that allow the violence to continue even as members of the public attempt to protest or report the brutality."

Again, this remains a problem all across the country.

"The investigation was launched after the death of Laquan McDonald in 2014 put Chicago's policing practices in the spotlight. Video released by court order showed a police officer shooting the black teenager in the back."

Prosecution of the officer remains pending.

"The report found an ongoing "pattern or practice" of unreasonable and excessive force — not a series of isolated events. And the violations are rarely punished, the DOJ says, as officers' descriptions of encounters are taken "at face value" even when there's contradictory evidence."

Again, this happens all across the nation.

"Here's what that pattern of excessive force looks like on the ground:

"Shooting at fleeing suspects

"In "numerous incidents," Chicago officers chased and shot fleeing people who posed no threat to officers or the public, the DOJ says. In some cases, there was no basis even to suspect the person of committing a serious crime. "The act of fleeing alone was sufficient to trigger a pursuit ending in gunfire, sometimes fatal," the DOJ writes. In one case, the report says, police officers fired 45 rounds at a man who was running away, killing him. They claimed he had fired a gun at them while they were chasing him — even though they noted there was no gun found on the man."

Again, a ubiquitous issue across the country.

"The DOJ also notes that the shooting of McDonald was a foot pursuit of a person who did not pose a threat, and it, like many other such chases, came to a "tragic end."

Indeed, it's called murder.

"Using Tasers against people who pose no threat

"The report found a pattern of officers using Tasers in unreasonable situations, with the department generally not investigating the incidents at all.

"The DOJ said it was difficult to track this practice, because the department kept such poor records on it — but still, the report found numerous examples. Chicago police chose to use Tasers on:

    A woman in a mental health crisis — not suspected of any crime — who failed to follow commands and "stiffened."
    A man suspected of petty theft. (He hit his head and died after a Taser was used on him.)
    An "unarmed, naked, 65-year-old-woman who had bipolar disorder and schizophrenia."
    A juvenile who fled after he was caught painting graffiti.
    A 16-year-old girl who flailed her arms after she was asked to leave school for having a cellphone.
    A 14-year-old girl in a fight."

Where's widespread public outrage across our formerly great country? Where?

"Use of force as retaliation and against children

"Officers sometimes hurt people as retaliation, the DOJ found — including retaliation against citizens who claimed a police stop was unlawful.

"They once used pain compliance techniques on a man who "stiffened and locked his arms while they were arresting him for walking his dog without a leash and refusing to present identification." The DOJ also highlighted an example of a 12-year-old Latino boy who was riding his bike under his father's supervision. A plainclothes officer, "responding to a report of 'two male Hispanics running from' the area," pulled the child off his bike, handcuffed him and pushed him up against a fence, without explanation to father or son. "The officer's only apparent basis for this detention was the boy's race, which is constitutionally unreasonable," the DOJ found."

Again, this is going on all over the country. With virtual impunity. ... Right, Sheriff? TL? "Sonny Boy?" Madam County Attorney?

"Acceptance of officers' accounts, in face of contradicting evidence

"Time and again, the DOJ found, officers claimed their use of force was reasonable and the police department took their word for it — even in the face of video evidence showing obvious excessive brutality. Here's just one example. Police officers falsely claimed that a woman had attacked them, the DOJ writes:

"In the video, officers can be seen aggressively grabbing the woman, who was being arrested for a prostitution offense, throwing her to the ground, and surrounding her. After she is handcuffed, one officer tells another to 'tase her ten f- - - - - - times.' Officers call her an animal, threaten to kill her and her family, and scream, 'I'll put you in a UPS box and send you back to wherever the f- - - you came from' while hitting the woman — who was handcuffed and on her knees. Officers can then be seen discovering a recording device and discussing whether they can take it. Supervisors approved this use of force and the officers were not disciplined until after the woman complained to [the Independent Police Review Authority] and produced surveillance video of the event."

This has to change. Likely, won't as the Trump nazi takes office.

"Putting youths in danger as coercion

"One section of the report is dedicated to dangerous and potentially unlawful tactics the CPD apparently uses to gain information about locations of weapons, gang activity or drug activity.

"The DOJ says its investigation indicates that officers will sometimes arrest someone for a low-level offense or on false pretense and refuse to let the person go until he or she gives up information about where police can find guns stashed illegally. If the person can't or won't give a location, the officers reportedly will "take a young person to a rival gang neighborhood and either leave the person there or display the youth to rival members, immediately putting the life of that young person in jeopardy by suggesting he has provided information to the police."

Outrageous, isn't it? Hear the rumble? Law enforcement malfeasance is not sustainable. Unless there is change, could trigger the unthinkable.

"A disproportionate impact on people of color

"The use of unreasonable force mostly burdens minority communities in Chicago, the DOJ found. Black and Latino communities in the city suffer from higher crime and have more contact with police — and thus experience more incidents of excessive force. The CPD was found to use force 10 times more often against black residents than against whites."

Come as a surprise? Wake up.

"The DOJ found 354 complaints of Chicago officers using the N-word. Only four were sustained by police investigators — two because there were audio recordings, one because the officer admitted to it, and the last because the woman being berated was married to a police officer who took "extraordinary measures to document the incident." Some officers, including supervisors, have made discriminatory posts — like "the only good Muslim is a f- - - - - - dead one" — on social media, often without repercussions."

Would think this is 1950, not 2017.

"Meanwhile, white residents who file a complaint about police misconduct are far more likely to see a result — their complaints are 2 1/2 times more likely to be sustained than complaints from black or Latino people, the DOJ says. When it's an allegation of excessive force, whites are three times more likely to find that the police department accepts their side of the story. In general, nonwhite residents reported persistent dehumanizing and demeaning treatment at the hands of the police, the DOJ says. One black teenager, asked what change he'd want to see in the CPD, said, "Act like you care."

This remains an issue all across the country. Not just Chicago.

"True scope of problem "nearly impossible" to uncover

"There are multiple reasons why the DOJ thinks the Chicago Police Department has an even bigger problem than this report describes. For one thing, there's all those videos that call into question officers' accounts. The DOJ expresses concern that many more officer accounts, in incidents where there isn't video, might be similarly inaccurate."

"Missteps stretching from training through punishment

"The failures of the Chicago Police Department start with the training of recruits and proceed all the way through to the punishment when incidents do occur, the DOJ says. Training is inadequate, the report states. For instance, the DOJ observed a training in deadly force that started 10 minutes late, ended 20 minutes early and was based on a 35-year-old video — with information that was legally inaccurate and "clearly out of date." One recruit appeared to be sleeping through the class. When investigators interviewed recent graduates of the police academy, only 1 in 6 "came close to properly articulating the legal standard for use of force," the DOJ writes."

Of equal concern?

"Protocols to prevent excessive use of force are inadequate and often unenforced, the DOJ says. Violations are often not investigated. When the police department does open investigations, they are — with "rare exceptions" — incomplete and unfair, the report says. Officers appear to collude with one another, not only following a "code of silence" but actively falsifying reports and lying in testimony, the report alleges. Meanwhile, investigators ask leading questions, union representatives coach officers on what to say, and contradictory evidence is ignored or never pursued, the DOJ reports."

"Federal prosecutors won’t charge a deputy who was recorded tossing a student out of a desk at a South Carolina high school after she refused to give up her cellphone. The U.S. Justice Department pursues civil rights charges when someone with authority intentionally violates civil rights, not when they use poor judgment or make a mistake, the agency said Friday in a news release."

That's exactly why there is no justice for the criminal jackbooted bastards in blue. Precisely, why. No more than a bullshit, bogus Catch-22 to protect criminal officers who are not prosecuted by state authorities. Convenient, isn't it?

"State prosecutors also decided not to charge Ben Fields in the October 2015 confrontation at Spring Valley High School in Columbia, meaning Friday’s federal action closes any criminal case against the officer."

Both girls were charged with violating South Carolina’s law against disturbing school, but the state prosecutor dropped the charges at the same time he cleared Fields."

Yet, when an officer does the right thing outside a DMV office against a pastor inciting verbal confrontation he is not backed up by the courts. Interesting, isn't it? Get this. Fox News reports:

"A police officer lacked probable cause to arrest a preacher for reading the Bible aloud at a California Department of Motor Vehicles office, a federal appeals court says. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals’ ruling Wednesday rejected a lower court opinion that found in favor of California Highway Patrol Officer Darren Meyer. Calvary Church pastor Mark Mackey had sued Meyer, saying his Fourth Amendment rights were violated when Meyer arrested him for preaching without a permit outside the Hemet DMV in 2011."

Since there was verbal confrontation between the pastor and those entering the DMV, the officer most likely should have arrested the pastor for disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace. That might have stuck.

"Police say a Contra Costa County Sheriff’s deputy was arrested for firing a gun inside a house party in Sacramento."

"Sacramento Police Department spokesman Matthew McPhail said Sunday 23-year-old Kyle Rowland, of Sacramento, was charged with attempted murder after he allegedly fired a gun Friday after a confrontation with party-goers. No one was injured in the shooting."

"McPhail says Rowland left the party but returned with a gun. Two firearms were recovered from the scene. He says that when police arrived Rowland was being held by several party-goers. A booking photo shows Roland with a bloody right eye."

... Just what beleaguered law enforcement needs, yet another black eye? ... Pun, intended.

"The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Department said Rowland joined as a deputy in October. Spokesman Jimmy Lee told CBS San Francisco the department is taking the incident seriously and said the employee involved has been fired."

Most inmates across our formerly great nation are reportedly imprisoned for non-violent drug 'offenses.'

"The women were sent to the Metropolitan Detention Center, a jail in Brooklyn, until a new prison could be built on the site. The move was supposed to last 18 months. But nearly three years later, many are still stuck at MDC. "We felt like we were animals that was taken to a pound and then that was it, they just closed the door and left us," says Ramona Brant, 53. Brant was granted clemency by President Obama in February. Before that, she spent the first 19 years of a life sentence at Danbury for a nonviolent drug charge. She says it was OK — there were activities, jobs, access to the outdoors — until March 2014, when she and the others were moved to the jail."

"A report released by the National Association of Women Judges finds conditions for the women at MDC violate both the American Bar Association's standards and the United Nations Standard Minimum Rules for Treatment of Prisoners. The judges said the women had no access to the outdoors and inmates complained of being unable to get appropriate medical care, especially gynecological care. At least one inmate was visibly pregnant. The warden told the judges the Bureau of Prisons couldn't find doctors willing to work there."

"David Patton, executive director of the Federal Defenders of New York, the public defenders' service for people who can't afford a private attorney, says his organization has had issues with the facility for years. "There have been maggots in the food, urine-stained mattresses, dryers that vent into the sleeping area, a lack of fresh air and recreation," Patton says."

"Latrena Greene and her three kids were pulled through a window after being trapped in their house following Monday night's storms. In the midst of panic, Greene couldn't recall their hero."

Indeed, a great police officer. Second to none.

"His name is Cameron Miles. And Greene didn't know it at the time, but he says the rescue was personal."

Indeed, it was.

"I have three girls of my own and my wife. So I think about if that were my kids and my wife there. I would want for somebody to do the same thing I did for them," said Miles."

Indeed. The way it should be.

"He responded to the call alone. When he arrived he quickly realized he was running out of options and time to save the family. "I did try to breech the door, but because the way the tree was coming in it was hard to open," Miles recalled. "That's when I breached the window." Miles then drove them to their family."

A truly fine officer. A happy ending.

"This is Miles' second year as a corporal and fifth year in the force. Major Pamela Johnson said his training and background prepared him for the moment."

Another fine officer. Another great story about a cop saving a life. This time, that of someone's furry feline friend. The cat had somehow managed to get herself caught between the top of a garage door and the framing. The photo is horrendous. Amazing she wasn't strangled. WDAM-TV 7-News, Weather, Sports-Hattiesburg, MS reports:

"It's the story everyone knows and loves: A law enforcement officer saves a stranded cat from a tree, and then reunites the family with their furry loved one. Except that isn't at all what happened in Ascension Parish when Deputy Mike Scott responded to a call of a cat getting stuck in a residence."

The cat could have died. Must have certainly expended one of its 'nine lives.'

“Never in all of my years was I prepared to encounter what I saw upon my arrival," said Scott. In a Facebook post made by the sheriff's office, Scott recalls the harrowing sight of a cat being lodged between the wall and a garage door of a home."

Just helplessly hanging there.

"The neighbors were very helpful as we cautiously removed the upper frame molding that allowed some space for us to remove the cat,” Scott said. “With a joint effort with neighbors we were able to remove the cat alive.”

Something else. Amazing.

"Scott said the ordeal felt like it took hours, but then the homeowner arrived. "Oh my God, Bella!" Deputy Scott was holding Bella, checking her for injuries. Luckily, Bella escaped the door unscathed by the incident."

Her lucky day. The officer was quite laid back:

"As for Scott? It wasn't the stereotypical heroic story everyone knows and loves, but he was happy to assist regardless. “I am not much of a cat person, but no one wants to see an animal suffer,” said Deputy Scott. “After losing so much from the flood, I was happy that I could save the homeowner’s cat. Thank God for miracles and good neighbors.”

Hat's off. A good day for police. A good day for the community. A good day for the homeowner. An especially good day for the cat.

When a corporation does the right thing, certainly deserves notice. The following details appalling behavior by a Dairy Queen franchisee. To its credit, Dairy Queen did the right thing. Made it right. The Washington Post reports:

"The Dairy Queen owner shouting the n-word at Deianeira Ford told her he could say whatever he wanted at his fast-food restaurant — that any accusations and complaints she uttered would fall on deaf ears."

Was he ever cluelessly mistaken.

"Ford was vindicated two days later, when her Facebook post about the incident provoked outrage so strong that the Dairy Queen in Zion, Ill., didn’t open for business."

How about that?

"But her victory was tempered by something even more troubling that she heard at a protest: Although she was the most vocal victim of the owner’s racism, she was not the first."

Hardly ever is.

"On Wednesday, Ford had taken her two children to visit their grandmother — and, because they were well-behaved, she stopped by the Dairy Queen on the way home. She ordered a $5 box, but part of the order was wrong, and another part was missing. So she asked the owner to fix the order, and when he balked, she asked for a refund. That’s when things spiraled.

"The owner, James “Jim” Crichton, returned her $5, but gave her a mouthful, according to Ford and the police in Zion, 50 miles north of Chicago. “He called me and my children n—–; he said I can go back to where I came from,” Ford told The Washington Post. “He took out his flip phone and he said he would take a picture and put it on Facebook because he wants to show the world what kind of n—— he has to deal with. Then he shut the window and walked away.”

Appalling treatment no one should ever have to deal with.

"But the worst came a few moments later, from the back seat, where her two children were sitting, Ford said. “My daughter is 3. She’s a little sponge; she repeats everything,” said Ford, 21, who is biracial. “She asked me: ‘Mommy, we n——?’ ”

Imagine having to deal with that.

"Crying and shaking, Ford dialed 911. An officer found her sitting in the parking lot in tears. She told him what happened, and he went to talk to Crichton, the DQ owner. The officer later detailed what Crichton told him in a police report. He said Crichton was angry. He was shaking and pacing the floor. But he did not deny what Ford had said:

“Crichton boastfully told me he would be happy to go to jail over the issue and proudly admitted to calling Ford a n——. He added that he is ‘fed up with black people,’ ” and described an incident in which two “of them” were in his restaurant squirting ketchup all over the floor, according to the officer’s report. “During the course of my conversation with Crichton, he used the word ‘n—–‘ freely to describe black people,” the officer continued."

Apparently, the racist bigot thinks it's 1950, not 2017.

"Still, there was little police could do. In a statement, Zion Police Chief Steve Dumyahn told The Post that “while this alleged activity is deplorable, it is not criminal.”

Indeed, it is legal to be a goddamned racist. Police, however, have arrested people for disorderly conduct for behavior far less offensive than that displayed by this goddamned bigot.

"So Ford took to Facebook. She wrote a post describing what had happened. She described how she had asked for the owner’s name after recovering from her shock so she could report him to Dairy Queen’s corporate office. He replied “Bill Clinton then said better yet I’m Donald Trump,” Ford posted. She included the phone number and address of the Dairy Queen. She also called Dairy Queen’s corporate headquarters."

This horribly aggrieved woman stood tall.

"A few hours after she wrote the post, it had been shared by several thousand people. Some called the restaurant. One man went by Crichton’s store, sparking another call to police. At some point, the post was seen by the people at Dairy Queen’s corporate office."

Despite profound privacy concerns for users, this is one benefit of social media.

"On Thursday, the company released a statement saying Crichton’s actions “are inexcusable, reprehensible and unacceptable. We do not in any way condone his behavior or language.” Dairy Queen also released a statement from Crichton, which said he and his employees would undergo sensitivity training. “I would like to sincerely and humbly apologize for my recent words and actions,” his statement said. “I have let my family, friends, employees, our system and this community down with what I have done.”

Too little, much too late. Dairy Queen did stand tall, however. Certainly, did what not only was in the public's best interest, but its own.

"But it was too late. On Friday, Dairy Queen announced that it was closing the location in Zion, Ill., and that it was terminating Crichton’s franchise rights."

How about that? May not be the end of it, however.

"Ford’s attorney, Renea Amen, told The Post that revoking the franchise license was a good first step. “I didn’t want my clients to walk away with just a letter of apology,” she said. Dairy Queen and Crichton “received money from this community. I think those days are gone where businesses and business owners can mistreat people and just say ‘I’m sorry.’ ”

It's possible the corporation may have already known of the long-term problem at this store.

"The family of a Texas teenage girl is suing the city of McKinney, its police department and a former police officer for the fallout after a call about a "disturbance" at a neighborhood pool party in 2015. In a federal complaint filed last month, 16-year-old Dajerria Becton and her legal guardian allege that former police officer Eric Casebolt violated her constitutional rights by using excessive force. CNN cannot independently verify the amount of damages the family is seeking."

What took them so long to sue?

"A video posted to YouTube, captured Casebolt, cursing at several black teenagers, unholstering his gun before grabbing Becton in June 2015. He repeatedly slammed her face on the ground, forcefully straddled her while thrusting his knees into her back and neck, the footage shows."

Yet, guess what? The piece of shit was never prosecuted.

"Video of the incident went viral and ignited allegations of racism -- critics publicly denounced the white officer for his aggressive actions. "Civil rights were violated," Attorney Kim T. Cole, representing Becton said at a press conference on Wednesday. "When you're in trouble, you should be able to rely on law enforcement to assist, not to have them attack you," Cole said."

"A Chicago police officer says he shot and killed a black man this week after the man twice pointed a weapon at him, but so far investigators have not found the weapon, authorities say."

"There's still many unanswered questions and we are working diligently to find those answers."

If that's true, it's terroristic threat. The perpetrator would have been arrested and jailed. He wasn't.

"The official said that in recent weeks Gerard went looking for him at his private law office and family home. Johnson said police detained Gerard in front of his house."

They didn't arrest him. What does that tell you?

“The conduct and threats by [Gerard] put me in fear of harm to myself, my family and my co-workers when [he] is near,” Johnson says in a court declaration accompanying the restraining order request."

If that's true, why wasn't he arrested?

"The temporary restraining order signed by a judge does not allow Gerard to get within 100 yards of Johnson, his wife and children, and his law partner, except at police commission meetings. There the restriction is five yards. Gerard could be arrested if he ignores the restrictions."

Is the 'judge' bought and paid for? Hasn't he read the United States Constitution, particularly the Bill of Rights? "A Texas police officer shot another officer and a man he was trying to arrest during a confrontation following a traffic stop, authorities said Friday."

Would be laughable if not so damned serious. The officer could have died.

"Police in Weatherford, west of Fort Worth, said officer Chris Bumpas was conducting the stop Thursday evening when he discovered there was a warrant for the arrest of one of three people in the vehicle. The man became combative and struck the officer in the head with a metal flashlight, police said in a statement posted to the department's Facebook page. The second officer, whom Bumpas had called for backup, couldn't subdue the suspect using a stun gun so he drew his firearm and fired multiple shots, striking Bumpas and the suspect."

Certainly, don't envy police in such a situation. Calls for better training.

"Bumpas was recovering Friday from surgery on his abdomen. The suspect, whose name hasn't been released, is in guarded condition at a hospital. Once he's released, the man will be taken to jail on charges that include aggravated assault on a peace officer, police said."

"Christmas came early for three little girls found in dire circumstances, thanks to the concern and generosity of several Chicago police officers. The officers were doing a wellness check last month in the Englewood neighborhood when they found the three children -- ages 1, 2 and 7 -- now known as the "Englewood angels." The girls had been left alone in an abandoned house."

This is soon to be 2017. How does this happen?

"When I arrived they were all huddled up in a bedroom on a very dirty mattress that was inside one of the bedrooms there," Sgt. Charles Artz said. "The whole house was very uninhabitable. There was no running water, no heat, no electricity. Dirty garbage was spread throughout the apartment. Feces was evident, dead rodents were evident inside the house ... just a very sad, sad situation for three little girls to be in." It's unclear how long the children had been in the abandoned home."

As a society, we need to do better. Far better. How can this go on with no one knowing? No one caring?

"The father was accused of striking his children, and charged with eight counts of battery. He has pleaded not guilty. The mother's role in the children's lives is unclear. After getting checked at a hospital, the girls were placed in the care of their paternal grandmother, Delores Anderson."

If you don't want kids, remain unwilling to fulfill parental duties, why have them?

"When Anderson first saw how dirty and malnourished they were, she said she felt hurt and disappointed. "I'm just glad they are with me now because they had no heat and running water and no one should have to live like that," she said. But Anderson wasn't in a position to provide for them financially, and she had to quit her jobs to take care of the children. Officer Mimi Bugarin and others joined Artz and immediately wanted to help. "I have two daughters myself. It was heartbreaking to see them in the conditions that they were living in. We just knew that we needed to do something more for them," said Bugarin."

"They started by dropping off diapers and milk to the girls' grandmother when they were off duty. While off duty, they also started a GoFundMe account that has collected more than $125,000, and they've collected a room full of gifts at the District 7 police station."

"People from all over the country and around the world have made donations. In the six weeks or so since the girls were rescued, they have gained more than seven pounds each and experienced some of the joys most people take for granted."

An officer, out of his own pocket, went and bought a tree to donate to the family and they got a chance to experience decorating it. You know, trimming the tree for the first time."

"The eldest child also had never been to school. But thanks to the officers of District 7, not only is she in school now, but they've also arranged for her to receive one-on-one instruction to help her catch up with the rest of her classmates."

"A group of Good Samaritans helped rescue a man trapped inside a burning car off a highway in Pearland, Texas, this weekend, according to police."

Law enforcement needs all the help it can get. Can't be everywhere at every moment.

"The man, who has not been identified, had been traveling northbound on State Highway 288 on Sunday morning, when his car suddenly slid across the freeway, veered off the road and struck a tree, bursting into flames, said Officer Jason Wells, public information officer for the Pearland Police Department."

A nightmare that could have quickly led to death.

"A handful of motorists on the highway immediately pulled over and helped drag the man out of the car just before law enforcement arrived on scene, Wells told ABC News today. "If it weren't for these people, this could have been catastrophic," Wells said. "The gentleman had significant injuries and would not have been able to get out of the car on his own."

Certainly, renews faith in mankind. Risked their lives to save another. Doesn't get any better than that. Hat's off. Wasn't so simple or easy to execute the rescue, or track down these heroes since most of them left before officers were able to identify them:

"Most of the rescuers left before police were able to get their names, Wells said. However, ABC station KTRK in Houston was able to track down one of them: Nick Villalona. Villalona told KTRK that he "was just doing the right thing at the right time."

Indeed.

"Villalona said he drove right up to [the] car after seeing the flames and smoke. He said that he "ran right up there and tried to pull on the door a couple of times," but it appeared to be locked. Fortunately, another bystander on the scene had a wooden club, which Villalona then used to break open the driver's side window, he said. "I just swung for the fences," he said. When the glass finally shattered, Villalona and a handful of other people were able to get a hold of the driver and pull him out, KTRK reported."

Had they not quickly acted, placed themselves at risk, the victim would have died:

"By the time police arrived on the scene, the vehicle was "engulfed in flames," Wells said. Local firefighters responded and helped extinguish the blaze, he added. Medics also responded and transported the man to a nearby hospital, Wells said. The man broke a few bones but is expected to be OK, he said."

"In recently-released 911 audio, an 11-year-old Florida girl is heard whispering to a dispatcher as she hides in a closet at her home during a burglary. The station reports Ashley Bermudez had been left alone at her Orlando home Tuesday afternoon while her mother went to the store. When the girl saw a purple Kia she didn’t recognize pull into her driveway, she went to her room upstairs, where she hid in a closet. The girl’s mother told the station she had only been gone for about six minutes when the burglary happened. The girl said she heard loud knocking, and then glass breaking. She called 911."

Although many adults would have quickly panicked, especially tough being a kid alone under such circumstances.

"Audio of the call was released Wednesday and obtained by CBS affiliate WKMG. “Please help me, come, hurry please?” the girl is heard telling a dispatcher. The dispatcher replies: “Okay, we are coming, give me one minute, ok?” About three minutes into the ten-minute call, burglars kick down the door and enter the bedroom where the girl was hiding."

She's eleven.

“Oh no, please,” she’s heard saying to the burglars. “Please, I won’t say anything. I promise you.” The men ran out of the house after seeing the girl, Orange County Sheriff’s Office officials told the station. The girl’s description of the suspects aided the investigation, officials say."

Kicker?

"Bermudez asks the dispatcher whether her parents will be arrested for leaving her home alone. “I have a question for you,” the girl said. “Will my parents get in trouble?” The operator replies: “You’re 11 years old, but you’re doing a great job, OK?”

Indeed, she did a great job under frightening circumstances at such a tender age.

"Deputies tell the station they’ve since arrested 18-year-old Ramon Franklin, and two teen boys, 16 and 14. A responding deputy reportedly saw the suspects fleeing in a stolen vehicle. They were arrested hours later when they crashed the car into a flatbed truck."

... One has to wonder where were their parents?

"Deputies said the suspects stole all of the family’s Christmas presents, including electronics, jewelry, cash and clothing worth $13,000. All three are expected to face burglary and theft charges."

"The 2-year-old son of a Cleveland police officer fatally shot himself with his father's service weapon Friday morning, police said. Officers responded to Officer Jose Pedro's home at about 10:30 a.m. and took his son to MetroHealth Medical Center, where the boy was pronounced dead."

"The toddler's older brother had run into the street, pleading for help, a neighbor told CNN affiliate WJW. "(He) was saying 'somebody call the police ... my brother shot himself,'" Sonya Hobbs said. "When I went in there, I saw that baby -- he was only 2 years old -- laying on the floor."

"Both police and the county medical examiner's office have declined to release the boy's name. Pedro has been with the department since 1993. Police officers, like citizens, are required to secure all weapons. According to the Cleveland police Manual of Rules, section 5.13, "officers shall use or handle their firearms only in a safe, proper, and authorized manner."

This is an experienced officer who certainly knew better.

"Police are investigating."

"The former Milwaukee cop who fatally shot Sylville Smith last summer fired a second, fatal shot after the young suspect had tossed his weapon, according to a criminal complaint released Thursday. Body-camera video from another officer showed the ex-cop, Dominique Heaggan-Brown, fired the second bullet into Smith's chest after the suspect hurled his weapon over a fence and had his hands near his head, according to the complaint."

What took them so long? Had it been a cop murdered, the perpetrator would have been immediately arrested, jailed, charged, and either denied bail or had it set at millions.

"Smith had been armed with a Glock .40 caliber model 22 semi-auto handgun with an extended magazine but Heaggan-Brown's body camera showed he threw the weapon into an adjacent yard as he was shot the first time, the complaint said."

The cop became judge, jury, and executioner.

"A review of both Heaggan-Brown's body camera and (the other officer's) camera confirm that Smith was unarmed at the time of the second shot," said the complaint filed by the Milwaukee District Attorney's office. Heaggan-Brown, who was fired after a sexual assault investigation in a separate case, was charged Thursday with first-degree reckless homicide. If convicted, he faces a maximum prison sentence of 60 years in the fatal shooting of the 23-year-old, whose death sparked days of unrest in the Wisconsin city."

Officer Matthew Murphy said Jones tried to shoot him following a brief foot chase, but that he was spared harm when the gun did not fire."

"According to the lawsuit, Austin police Sgt. Gregory White "cold-cocked" Justin Scott, 25, when Scott didn't answer some of White's questions and when Scott repeatedly asked White why he wanted him to put his hands behind his back. White got Scott on the ground and punched him several times as Scott screamed and struggled, dashboard camera footage from the incident shows."

This will continue to be an issue as our population ages. Precisely, why we need to look out for one another.

"The man told Rozanski his name was Bob and that he was 93 years old. He also admitted that he’s not supposed to drive at night. Rozanski didn’t know how to help, but noticed a group of state troopers eating dinner in the next room."

The sergeant was hit twice in the face. Police say he was able to radio for help and was rushed to the hospital. He was treated for his injuries overnight, and was released Monday morning."

The Dakota Access Pipeline has been in contention for quite some time. The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe has fought this abomination fearing it will pollute its water supply if there is indeed a leak.

Dave Archambault said in a statement that he received a letter from the Corps, dated Friday, which says all lands north of the Cannonball River will be closed Dec. 5.“The letter states that the lands will be closed to public access for safety concerns,” Archambault said."

"A Pennsylvania county prison guard has been placed on paid leave and charged with simple assault for allegedly pepper-spraying an inmate’s genitals. The Scranton Times-Tribune says the incident involving Lackawanna County prison Sgt. Scott Blume occurred Sept. 24, but didn’t come to light until the inmate wrote to a judge to complain Oct. 18."

The deceased man is 28-year-old Omar Rahman, who was found dead last August in a home in St. Louis County. The photo has prompted an internal investigation by police officials and a likely lawsuit from Rahman’s mother, Kimberly Stanton. She found out about the picture after a reporter, who was tipped off about the photo shortly after Rahman’s death, showed it to her."

"Former University of Cincinnati police Officer Ray Tensing will go on trial again over the fatal shooting of black driver Sam DuBose during a traffic stop last year. As we've reported, Tensing's first trial ended in a mistrial earlier this month after jurors were unable to reach a unanimous verdict on murder and manslaughter charges. Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters told reporters Tuesday he is again pursuing a murder conviction and will request that the new trial be moved to a different venue."

This is indeed good news. Hat's off to the prosecutor.

"Baltimore police say officers shot and wounded a man after receiving a report that he was threatening people at a bus stop with knives. Police Commissioner Kevin Davis said at a news conference Friday that officers called to the scene in north Baltimore used a stun gun when the man refused to drop two knives, then two officers shot him. Davis says officers rendered first aid, and the man is in critical condition."

Tactics need to change. U.S. Marines are taught how to disarm someone wielding a knife. Why not police? Marines are taught to do so totally unarmed themselves. Police have the advantage of batons. Also, seldom are alone when confronting someone wielding a knife, -- as in the above example. As more information is released, this case will be updated here. Opioids are extremely dangerous, particularly new ones entering the country. Far stronger than heroin. A threat as well to drug dogs, their handlers, and police conducting investigations. NBC News reports:

"Primus was rushed to a local animal hospital. By the time he arrived 10 minutes later, the German short-haired pointer was in serious distress — his tongue was hanging out of his mouth, his breathing had slowed dramatically and he seemed to be staring off into the distance. "He had to be carried in," Weiman said. These were classic signs of a drug overdose, and it turned out that while Primus and two other dogs sniffed their way through the suspect's house, they were exposed to unseen fentanyl, a synthetic opioid that is 50 times stronger than heroin sold on the streets."

This is an extremely dangerous drug. Those who use this drug prove Darwin's Theory of Natural Selection. -- They die.

"Fentanyl, much of it coming from Mexico and China, has killed hundreds of users, including music legend Prince, since its availability spiked in 2013. But the Drug Enforcement Administration says it also poses a "grave threat" to first responders and law enforcement officers — human and canine. It's so potent that a few grains can be deadly. It can be ingested, inhaled or absorbed through the skin and mucous membranes. And because dealers cut other drugs with it, fentanyl is often a hidden menace, especially for dogs using their noses to pick up a scent."

It's amazing abuse of this drug continues considering how dangerous it is.

"If fentanyl is loose in an environment, it can spread out where a dog can absorb it through his pads. He could sniff it up through his jowls," Weiman said. "And fentanyl is so toxic, so strong that the very smallest amount of it — that you couldn't even see — could affect the dog. You wouldn't know they've even ingested it."

This is what makes this drug so dangerous.

"At Coral Springs Animal Hospital, staffers who examined Primus and the other dogs immediately realized they were dealing with classic opioid overdoses and that speed was critical. "Usually when a person dies of an opioid overdose, they stop breathing. Same with animals," said veterinarian Christopher McLaughlin. "And the treatment for dogs is the same as it is for people."

Indeed, it is.

"Narcan, the brand name of the opioid antagonist naloxone, is metabolized as quickly as fentanyl and can reverse an overdose if administered in time. All three dogs got shots of it and perked up within a few minutes."

This drug is a life saver, -- if administered in time.

"Even before Primus' brush with death, police officers across the country knew fentanyl in powder or pill form could be hazardous during a raid. In August, two Atlantic County, New Jersey, detectives were hospitalized after inhaling the pain killer when a puff of it escaped from a plastic bag of heroin and cocaine during a field test. "I felt like my body was shutting down," Detective Eric Price said of the experience. "I thought I was dying."

Indeed. Fentanyl does have legitimate medical uses, however. -- Particularly, in pain patches used by those suffering from cancer. ... But can be deadly when not handled properly.

"A month later, 11 SWAT officers in Hartford, Connecticut, ended up in the emergency room when a stun device they tossed into a house during a raid sent a batch of fentanyl, scraped off prescription patches often used by cancer patients, into the air."

Protective gear leads to communication issues during raids, but changes are being made to ensure safety.

Our approach to this curse needs to change. CBS News recently reported:

A search failed to uncover a weapon the sergeant told investigators the man was carrying and relatives of the dead teenager are disputing police statements that he was armed."

Indeed. Where's the gun? Where?

"Authorities haven’t identified the man shot during the foot chase, but relatives identified him as Kajuan Raye of Dolton. Police said a sergeant opened fire when the man pointed a gun at him."

Why didn't they quickly identify the victim? Where's the goddamned gun? Where?

"Raye’s cousin, Ahkeya White, told reporters Raye was trying to figure out what he wanted to do and that he’ll be greatly missed. White told CBS Chicago her cousin didn’t own a gun. She said he was on his way home when police approached him, and he ran because as a young black man, he was afraid of police."

Later, when the sheriff found out, he said it simply sounded like a case of "n****r knockin'," another testified. A supervisor pointed to a stain on the floor next to an interrogation suspect and said, "That's from the last n****r I shot," one officer testified. A witness also testified that the sheriff ordered pre-trial detainees into his jail's chapel, away from the eyes of surveillance cameras, where they were beaten and pleaded for mercy."

"The facilitator of such brutality, they said, was Sheriff Louis Ackal, the tough-talking sheriff of Iberia Parish, a rural swath of sugarcane fields about two hours outside of New Orleans. Witnesses described the man as dressed in gray pants and a gray shirt, and surveillance photos show him leaving the scene in a black sedan with chrome rims and tinted windows. “We consider this person extremely dangerous and a clear threat to law enforcement officers and the public,” McManus said. Later, police published a photo seeking help in identifying a man “in connection” with the shooting, describing him as a “black male, 20-30 years old, 5’7-6?, tall, slim build with a goatTee.” It was not clear if the two descriptions were of the same person."

Hopefully, police will find the bastard before he kills again.

"The suspect in the murder of a San Antonio police detective was arrested Monday afternoon. San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said that 31-year-old Otis Tyrone McKane was taken into custody without incident at around 4:30 p.m. local time. McKane was charged with capital murder."

As well he should have been. Indeed, good news he was quickly found. Taken off the street. The same standard should apply to officers who murder on the job. Statutes must change. "The police officer who shot and killed Philando Castile in a St. Paul, Minn., suburb in July has been charged with second-degree manslaughter."

All these months. Yet, when a cop gets killed, even in self-defense, the perpetrator is immediately charged. Not so, the jackbooted bastards in blue.

"Ramsey County Attorney John Choi said the use of force by St. Anthony police Officer Jeronimo Yanez was not justified. A review of dashboard camera video revealed that "no reasonable officer" would have used deadly force in this circumstance, Choi said. "There was absolutely no criminal intent exhibited by him throughout this encounter. ...He was respectful and compliant. ... He volunteered in good faith that he had a firearm beyond what the law requires."

"While the officer attempted to identify the driver, the driver fled in his car and crashed into a parked vehicle. A brief struggle between the officer and driver ensued and the driver of the vehicle was shot once in the lower extremity," prosecutors said in a statement. In footage from the patrol car's dashcam that was obtained by Philly.com, the officer draws his gun and tells Brown to get on the ground. But, Brown tries to run. As the two scuffle, the officer's gun fires."
